Bad Hunter Frustrations!

Unread post by Rikaku »

Ok so for the record, I'm talking about the BAD hunters. Not the novice/new/newbie Hunters who are trying to learn, I mean the BAD hunters that you try to help but they DEFEND their awfulness! I don't know about you, but bad hunters (or as we know them better as, huntards) are the bane of my existence. I love the Hunter class, I love everything about it; what I don't like is the stereotype of all Hunters being morons. And this stereotype is heavily perpetuated by Bad Hunters.

And it seems like there's been a surge of them lately @_@

Lately I've been playing on my alts, namely a Priest at 50's. Now in these instances I heal, and I've found each and EVERYTIME I do, I find bad players. But the ones who irk me the most? BAD HUNTERS.

And when I meet bad hunters, I do my best to be polite and inform them of better ways to do things. Such as, don't use tab targeting when fighting multiple mobs, or don't ever melee. Or I correct them that when they roll need on STR Leather, they don't actually need that because it isn't beneficial for them in any way. Sure, no one likes to be told 'how to play', but honestly, is trying to inform someone from being bad at their class the same thing as 'telling them how to play'?

In my book, no.

Because you make yourself look foolish MR. RANDOM HUNTER, when you roll Need on STR leather. You look like an idiot when you're MELEEING A BOSS WITH AN STR/STAMINA AXE RANDOM HUNTER #2!!

But their replies are always the same.

"I know how to play my class, Priest."

No. No obviously you don't. *facepalm*

Sometimes... I really hate the random dungeon finder =_=

Sorry, I just had to vent.

I know what you mean. I'm leveling a tankadin and a Holy Priest at the moment, and oh. My. God. I love my hunter, love her to death, but I swear, these huntards are making me hate my class. The times I've had trouble with these guys, it's always because of one thing:

They.

Keep.

Pulling.

Everything.

It doesn't matter, if, say, THE TANK IS DEAD, or the tank is about 30 yards behind everyone else.

So the first time this happened, on my little Tankadin, I asked him nicely to stop. I said, and I quote, " Hunter, I'll let you know if I need any help pulling, but thank you :)"

He responded with a string of swear words and insults to my gear and DPS.

I tried to explain, "I know what you're saying, but it's just that when you pull, the healer tries to save you. And you don't have any threat-holding abilities, so the entire group you pull goes to the healer, who dies, and we all die. I know what you're trying to do, I have a hunter main."

aaaand this serves to get him angrier, to the point we had to kick the guy.

It's worse on my Priest, though. The same thing happened, and being ticked off already, I was a bit short with the guy. Not insulting, but laying down the law, ei: Hey, stop pulling." "no." "fine, but just know that I refuse to heal anyone that pull, unless it's the tank."

he responded with "whatever i can kite anything that comes at me."

And then proceeded to need and WIN every clothie item that dropped.

I should have kicked him before it was too late. Unfortunately, I didn't see what he was doing until something I actually NEEDED dropped.

I. Hate. Huntards.

Oh man Vix, I've had that exact scenario too, on my Warrior tank. Only he took all my tanking/dps warrior stuff.

2 hunters in 5 man H.
2 traps, tank pull.
Multi shot... Wipe.
"Plz, don't multi on trap pull, ok?"
"Sure think! Done!"

Next pull. Trap. Multi...

Well, it was Q pug and he was with tank, heal and other dps from his server.
And still multi on every pull.
Oh, btw, they NEED on every drop :O))))

So yes, it happens.
I'm not saying I'm as good as Grandpa Frost, but at least I'm trying to keep hunter, not huntard, line...

I was on Caboodle, doing a Mana Tombs PuG with an Orc hunter. I had a white lion, Kit, and he had a white gorilla who didn't have a name. About half way through the tank drops for reasons unknown and he starts pulling with his pet and running it back to me and then meleeing with a 2-hander sword. We almost wipe, everyone panics, healer goes "Why did you pull?" - no response. We're waiting for the tank and get him after a short wait, and the hunter goes right back to pet pulling and dragging it back to me - the healer gets increasingly more and more annoyed, and then the name drops come up: "Caboodle, stop pet pulling!"

I go "Wait, what?" and offer up a "It's not me, it's X. I have a cat, he has a gorilla. The gorilla is doing the pulling." and the chat goes silent. I drop a whisper to the hunter to ask him to please stop, and I don't get a response. The hunter does the same thing again and the healer whispers me, telling me to put my pet on passive and cut it out. I'm pretty much done fighting by this point so I stick Kit on passive and trail behind the other hunter. Even when he kept doing the same thing and I was standing right next to the healer, I got raged at. I put Kit away and took out Sidhe(Dishu) hoping a change of color would help tell our pets apart, but no such luck. I finished the instance after losing every piece of gear I rolled on and feeling a little abused from the constant rage I was getting from this healer. I'm not sure why the hunter did what he did, but it kind of spoiled my evening for a bit.

Three PuGs later I got another guy with a nameless white gorilla and about dropped group before realizing it was a different person. x_x I'm not generally an assertive person, so I only give people advice if they ask for it, but the guy wasn't responding to anyone so I can only assume he either wasn't looking at the chat or was too young to answer/didn't speak English. Never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to stupidity, after all. I don't think he did it to be mean...but who knows.

On the other hand, I like it when I get into one with my hunter and groups are expecting a huntard, and then I go and prove them wrong by helping control/manage all the trash, trap pulling the right things when people are ready, holding my own if i accidentally pull something that wasn't supposed to be, and being top on the dps charts. I feel good when I see the surprised comments from people.

Not exactly a "bad" hunter rant on my part, but a "rude" Hunter if anything. I really can not stand people who can take a minute out of their life to be rude compared to using the same minute to ask something nicely. Was doing lowbie runs on my Pally, when this hunter in the group for every single trash pull that had something to skin, (and I do mean he did this every pull), he'd instantly type out "loot dogs". No please. No asking nicely. Just "loot dogs". I was already looting to begin with but figured I'd ignore it. (We were in Dire Maul, btw.)

We are near the end chief boss, when the Hunter goes "u all suck". Where as someone else asks why and he goes "no looting dogs, u all suck cock". So I finally I am irritated enough to snipe in.. "Maybe if you has said please I'd have decided to loot mine, but in all honesty you should level your skinning and leatherworking on your own time. We aren't here for leveling your skills." Then all of a sudden the entire group turns on me like *IM* the "bitchy" one as they put it, and two of them even said they were going to report me for my bad attitude towards "the group". I don't even know what the hell was going on in their minds. I just finished the boss and told'em to feel free to report me if they wanted and left.

And commenting to Ceravan's post, Ive enjoyed doing the same thing. Ive gotten a few guilds from other servers that told me if I was willing to server transfer they'd have a core spot waiting for me, heh.

If you're going to pug, expect to run up against the dregs of the servers. Oh look, a hunter in strength and spellpower gear. That mage has a stamina/armor meta! The tank is gemmed for crit...

I used to try to help them out. Sometimes I'd make fun of them. For the most part I've given up. If you can make it to 80+ without realizing what stats you need for your gear, I'm obviously not going to be any help in fixing that.

Last week tanking zg on my druid. The pug hunter has one piece of agility gear (pvp helm) and the rest a mix of str/int gear. Her bow was the tank weapon from the zg quest. What gets me is she had the stamina trinket from Val/Ther and a few other BWD drops. I almost assume that it was an attempt at trolling or another level bot service.

I quit trying to help hun-tards or any other class that I have some knowledge about long ago... every man & woman for themselves in a pug I say...

Long as you are doing your role, it's their problem.

Until someone else chimes in with something derogatory...

Sidenote: on venoxis, whole group dies, me & my scorpid take out the last 5%, the tank, thanks me with "Good job Huntard."

Really? I mean I'm BM & all but c'mon, if I hadn't lived to kill the boss... 'sighs' & goes back to doing dailies.

It is in my opinion that when it comes to low level characters wearing the wrong sort of gear....I can understand this to some degree. I am usually not mean or cruel to said person unless they decide to be mean or cruel themselves, and I *will* tell them when they are doing something wrong. EVERY once in awhile you'll get the "Oh wow, thanks. I'll do that." and it really does make all the douchy persons you run into worth dealing with to get the ONE nice guy or girl who seems to actually appreciate some advice.

...but once you reach level 85, and your tank is gemmed for crit, your hunter is geared for spellpower, or your rogue is wearing spirit leather....you do not have my sympathy. What. So. Ever.

In my mind/opinion, there is just no excuse for this. You have just went through 85 levels and you still havent figured this kind of stuff out? You havent taken maybe one or two minutes out of your days of playing this character to look online to check on specs, gear, stats, something? If you havent, and your at this point in the game, your fair game for my criticism. And I will not sugar-coat it.

Maybe I am a tad cruel sometimes, no one is perfect and like hell if I'll try to pretend I am. But thats just how I see it.

No. No obviously you don't. *facepalm*
How cool would it be if you could temporarily switch to your 85 hunter main when someone is acting like "because you are playing X, you must not know anything about any other class"

My view as someone who plays tanks, healers (well 1 anyway), and ofc dps, is simply this: "if you pull it, you own it".

You want to pump up your DPS numbers a little higher? Fine, just so long as A) you kill the mob, B) you don't get yourself or anyone else killed in the process and C) you're not diverting heals away from the tank or forcing the tank to switch away from his target to come bail you out.

If you've got those 3 covered, it's all good imo.

It's amazing how stupid people manage to (wordlessly, effortlessly) escape blame for their actions... and how hard some (otherwise intelligent) people will work to reassign that blame to others.

This is something that never ceases to astound me. What have people got against simply opening their eyes and calling a spade a spade...? :?
