Nuzlocking WoW
My good friend might be coming back to play WoW, and might not be playing on my realm, so im contemplating leveling another hunter on a new realm, no heirlooms (i might end up buying new heirlooms and buyin a toon xfer tho) But ive leveled 2 hunters up, the first time, i took my time, enjoyed it alot, solo'd ALOT of instances (UBRS, LBRS, most of BRD, Ramps, just listing because im proud i did it!) and the second time, ive just kinda went with the flow, mostly rare hunting to lvl up, which is pretty fun as well.
But if im going to level another hunter, I've been thinking of another potentially fun way to level, and that is Nuzlocking my pet until 85!
Nuzlocke is a Pokemon term, where you can only catch the first pokemon you see in a route, and if u fail, you have to wait until the next route/zone to catch another.
Then, you must name that Pokemon to create a bond with it.
Then, if that pokemon faints at all, its dead forever, you must release it (or box it).
And i though that would make an interesting story for a hunter, you get to possibly tame new pets youve never tamed, id follow a strict set of rules.
so far here is what ive determined would make my play more fun
1. First beast to aggro on me in a ZONE (1 per Mulgore for example) gives me the option to tame it, this would make going on a Taming mission more of an actual mission if your forced to fight through camps and avoid wolves cougars and w/e to find your beast.
2. If the pet is dismissed, its Abandoned, so you cant essentially save a dying pet by making it vanish, this would force me to actually try to save my pet by distracting shot kiting (which you cant do for a long long time) Also if the pet dies its Abandoned, not stabled, Stables are for your Extra pets
3. Only 1 pet on my call bar at a time
4. If i die, and my pet doesnt, it still counts as a pet death, this is to avoid the mindset that you can take a bullet for your pet, and try to instill the idea that once your pet sees you perish, it must take life upon its own again
5. If number 4 happens, you can go back, and Retame the SAME EXACT BEAST (same location, unless its a rarespawn) but as long as you do not aggro any other beasts in the zone getting to it again, this feature just adds to the difficulty and makes the retame all the more precious if successful
6. ANY pets still alive when you ding 85, are immortal!
I copied this over from the WoW General, because i think this place would get more discussion than that forums!

Re: Nuzlocking WoW
An interesting take, but unfortunally, I bond with all my pets anyway (main point of nuzlocke), and would feel horrid if I had to abandon them. Heck, I couldn't even finish my Nuzlocke SoulSilver because my Beedrill died... However, another point would have to be made with the whole "Dismissing pet = abandoned pet." At certain points (especially in instances, but I dont know if you'll be doin those in a Nuzlocked hunter run), you have to dismiss pet to prevent aggro. Just a little iffy there. Otherwise, it sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to see how far I'll get if I ever start one!

Sound cool. Might make a new hunter myself, though I might be slightly modifying those rules for my own run if I do.

Oooh I was thinking of rolling a new Worgen hunter, this would be perfect to try out on her since she'll be my 6th hunter.

Hmm. Well that is pretty hardcore - not for me but you get a tip of the hat if you can stick with it!

Re: Nuzlocking WoW
I like this idea quite a bit, although the name sounds really silly
It seems like it'd be a great sort of RPable story for an alt, too, and lend that meaningfullness to even pets you never really like. Loss adds that extra touch, I think, of bitterness that adds value to something that is gone.
I (for myself) would probably change it to the first pet you see, though, rather then get aggroed by, simply because you can choose what aggroes you, and would have to decide whether to move toward or away from a potential tame once you see it (assuming you didn't have a destination in mind, say if you were looking for a quest item and just roaming about).
But in any case, I may make an alt just to try this--now that pets auto-level with you, and talenting them is second nature to me by now, it could be easily doable!

Re: Nuzlocking WoW
haha glad to see all the feedback, yea ive recently been taking a break from WoW, but i srsly go to these forums everyday xD
but yea dont be worried to modify these rules, i just posted my rules i was thinkin up on the spot, but im glad ive gotten some good feedback
and about the name of it, its derived from some pokemon comic, where the writer would substitute a Seedot's face with John Locke's face, and the Seedot eventually evolved into a Nuzleaf and would also have its face substituted with John Locke's face (NUZleaf +john LOCKE)
If anyone starts one, keep us updated, it might inspire me to start playing wow earlier! lol
