This. They are head and shoulders above the other tenacity pets when it comes to hardcore tanking.SgtMakkie wrote:Beetle/Turtle

Good choice. Although, you almost never see Terrorpene on any of the servers I play on (Uther, Quel'Thalas, Antonidas, Fenris, Zangarmarsh, Shu'halo, etc)...

Anyone who finds their Terrorpene not-so-unique should transfer to one of my servers - we seemed to have escape the turtle clone phenomenon.

Turtle/Boar... You could try to get also a shale spider for the 5% stat buff.

Ive found that crocolisks are exellent for tanking, even if they loose aggro their ankle crack slows mobs do so you can easily kill them before they can get to you.
theyre also awesome for capture the flag battlegrounds.

I love my beetles, I got one of the dark purple Jewled ones Uldum and the temple of stars. The color match really works with my space goat. Though I'm having trouble finding a good match for my human hunter I'm bringing up now.

I could see crocs (and warp stalkers) being great for pvp; outside of that they should be good, but in my experience anything you'd really need ankle crack for, is immune to it.Dalthok wrote:Ive found that crocolisks are exellent for tanking, even if they loose aggro their ankle crack slows mobs do so you can easily kill them before they can get to you.theyre also awesome for capture the flag battlegrounds.

Re: Solo tanking pets?
I kept a croc/warpie for all of my hunters, especially my SV/MM ones since it's useful if you're out soloing quests and such. I personally love their special since it allows me to kill the mob before it reaches me.Worba wrote:I could see crocs (and warp stalkers) being great for pvp; outside of that they should be good, but in my experience anything you'd really need ankle crack for, is immune to it.Dalthok wrote:Ive found that crocolisks are exellent for tanking, even if they loose aggro their ankle crack slows mobs do so you can easily kill them before they can get to you.theyre also awesome for capture the flag battlegrounds.
I also really like turtles and beetles for more hardcore tanking.

Re: Solo tanking pets?
I used to be a big fan of pets with slowing abilities, but after a while I was finding it always boiled down to 1 of the following 2 scenarios:
1) Regular mob. Affected by pet slow, but so weak I could just as easily burn them down before they reached me.
2) Outdoor miniboss. Really wanted pet slow for these, but they were pretty much all immune to it.
That's why I don't bother much with pet slows nowadays; I have a croc and a warpstalker on different toons, but I got them for the look and tree.
The one thing it was still useful for was kiting things way above my level, but now that conc shot has been boosted to 5 sec CD / 6 sec dur / 0 cost, even that's become pretty easy.
Of course, as I said above, having pet slow in pvp still rocks - everything I listed above applies only to solo PVE.

Re: Solo tanking pets?
The only tank pet Constantyne has is a crocolisk - Deadmire (his is named Ironhide) to be exact. I can't say much for other tanking pets since he's my only one, but I really like him. They are GREAT for PvE as they can keep the mobs' attention while you never maintain a scratch.
Thank you so much Litlemouse for my amazing signature!

Re: Solo tanking pets?
Actually, I used a rhino for quite some time.
He's actually the pet I depended on to get me through Kara runs for my mount. ^_^
But out of those choices, I'm afraid I don't have too much experience with either.
I just picked up two beetles while I was leveling in Uldum because they were rare skinned, haven't played with them much.
I was quite a bit busy with some other tames as of late.

Re: Solo tanking pets?
Well truth be told, solo has become so easy that any tenacity pet is good enough really. Crocs can hold aggro as well as anything else with thunderstomp and improved taunt... but the days of Bad Attitude sadly are long gone...
