The Taming: A Hunter's Quest for Brokentooth

Unread post by Jagden »

So, my hunter was my first character. Originally an orc (now blood elf) and was leveled to 60 back in vanilla. Since then I've been playing a rogue almost exclusively. Over the past couple of years I would log on to my hunter and level him a little bit (now 76, Loque, nahak please). The other day I was feeling a little nostalgic and decided to try my hand at creative writing with the topic of my first rare pet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it.

The Taming: A Hunter's Quest for Brokentooth
The orc hunter surveyed the horizon. This was the Badlands, comprised of dry earth. What vegetation did grow here seemed lifeless, remnants of a past lush oasis perhaps. The only inhabitants of this desolate land were dwarves, troggs, and gnolls. The dwarves were of no concern to the orc. The troggs and gnolls, however, could prove a challenge in large numbers which is how they always travelled being too afraid to challenge anyone alone.

The orc's mount, a mighty gray wolf, sniffed the air as the orc sat atop and continued to scour the region. The orc was here for a specific reason, to tame a companion of legend. The beast was called Brokentooth. A large cougar known for it's prowess in battle and lightning quick attacks. Brokentooth was known to be rarely spotted, those who came desiring to tame this beast sometimes found themselves unprepared for the wait in the dry heat of the desert. The orc was used to this type of environ having grown up in the deserted lands of Durotar.

The orcs camp was atop a ledge overlooking and open area of land where the famed beast was known to sometimes appear. The orc dismounted to give his mount much needed rest after the long journey deciding to continue to prowl the area on foot. Deciding he would need sustenance for the night, the hunter let out a shrill whistle calling his companion to his side. The hunters pet was a hyena which he tamed years ago on the plains of The Barrens where he had spent most of his life as a youth. The hyena had been a trusted friend and hunting companion. The hunter found his desired prey, one of the many buzzards that circled the area and let an arrow fly. The arrow whistled through the air catching it's target in the underbelly and bringing it to the ground.

That night the orc slept with one eye open as he was trained to do from a youth, his hyena companion keeping watch. The only sounds were that of the creatures that came out at night to feast on the corpses of the animals unfortunate not to last the dry climate. The hunter did not fear these creatures, he had built a great fire that would keep them at bay and his companions were prepared to protect him did the need arise.

The orc woke in the early hours, the sun had not yet crept over the mountains. He walked up to his perch and spotted what he had come here for. His heart raced as he knelt down to bid his hyena companion farewell. The orc jumped down to face the beast and began the ritual that would bind the beasts spirit to the hunter giving him utter control over the beast. Brokentooth, however, wasn't going to go without a fight and began swatting the hunter with his huge paws. The hunter had been trained in this ritual from a child and understood that despite the painful blows, he must keep complete concentration.

After what seemed like an eternity, the ritual was finally complete and the beast known as Brokentooth was now bound to the hunter. The orc removed some steaks that he had prepared and gave them to the giant cat and went about tending to his wounds.

When the sun began to reach it's apex in the sky, the hunter had already packed camp and was once again atop his wolf mount returning to the great orc capital, Orgrimmar. The hunter and his new companion would go on to defeat many enemies of the horde, their stories told around fires to the young orcs to this day.
