I camped this bad girl from 2 am until ~11:30 am, when she finally spawned. I was alone for the entirety of the time, bar one or two minute-long visits by other hunters who politely went on their way after seeing me there.
I was sort of tabbed into Bejeweled (the in-game addon), passing the time in tired boredom, when NPC Scan went off.
Midway through, I realized that tons of people had appeared. There was a warrior, a resto druid and a death knight--all Alliance--milling about, along with a Night Elf and Dwarf hunter. Bear in mind, please, that I'm an orc >.> The warrior attacked partway through, dying of course--not sure if he was trying to actually help or not

Sadly, though, he pulled Deth'tilac to a strange position, and I found that I couldn't send my pet. Then I realized as she plowed toward me that she had no target--she was resetting, and I was standing ON her spawnpoint. I quickly ran off and began firing at once to re-tag her. The allies stood watching.
At this point, I was really worried about what would happen--would the allies wait until she was low HP, and then force her to Deth Strike them, killing her? Would they try and pull aggro and tame, or try to ruin it some other way?
So back and forth we went--my blue demon dog--a placeholder named, aptly enough, Sacrifice--was already abandoned. I sent Solix in--again and again. I had found that I wasn't as big a fan of his skin as I'd thought, so when I accidentally abandoned him, too, rather than reviving, I wasn't hugely bothered. I already have a green lava spider, so >.>

Finally, her debuff vanished, and I laid a final Ice Trap and started my tame. But what's this? The warrior had run in and attacked--while she was rooted--and she spun in place and used Deth-strike. She was down to a VERY low HP percentage, now, and gaining speed as I tried to channel. Shaking, I backed up and kited her until Ice Trap came off cooldown, hoping fervently that none of them tried it again--I suspected she wouldn't survive another.
I thanked the allies around me--they were all standing quietly around the edges, mostly not interfering at all! Some of them now rode off, perhaps angry or maybe happy for me, I don't know. One of the other hunters stuck around and showed me a rare pet or two, and I smiled at him, then relogged over to my ally alt to thank him.
"Everyone in my group was telling me KILL IT, KILL IT, but I learned the hard way about that with spirit beasts," he told me. He explained that he'd had spirit beast tames killed out from under him four times--and instead of wanting revenge and doing the same to me, he'd remembered how it had felt and stayed back. I really thanked him profusely--he could have easily yanked the rug from under me on this one. All in all I was very very happy with how it turned out--the difficulty of the tame, the kindness of the allies and everything else. Another Alliance hunter even whispered me from a Horde alt asking to see the pet, and talked to me a bit about the various rare spawns and whatnot
