Wow... Deth'tilac is no pushover. (Img Warning)

Unread post by Acherontia »

Another Deth'tilac tame tale to go with the masses!

I camped this bad girl from 2 am until ~11:30 am, when she finally spawned. I was alone for the entirety of the time, bar one or two minute-long visits by other hunters who politely went on their way after seeing me there.

I was sort of tabbed into Bejeweled (the in-game addon), passing the time in tired boredom, when NPC Scan went off.

Image

Well, I took a deep breath and got started right away, throwing an Ice Trap down and sending pet. Revive, trap, send pet, revive, trap, send pet. She did Deth-Strike my snakes from my snake trap a couple of times, too, although they mostly seemed to die before the cast completed.

Midway through, I realized that tons of people had appeared. There was a warrior, a resto druid and a death knight--all Alliance--milling about, along with a Night Elf and Dwarf hunter. Bear in mind, please, that I'm an orc >.> The warrior attacked partway through, dying of course--not sure if he was trying to actually help or not  I am going with "yes" :P

Sadly, though, he pulled Deth'tilac to a strange position, and I found that I couldn't send my pet. Then I realized as she plowed toward me that she had no target--she was resetting, and I was standing ON her spawnpoint. I quickly ran off and began firing at once to re-tag her. The allies stood watching.

At this point, I was really worried about what would happen--would the allies wait until she was low HP, and then force her to Deth Strike them, killing her? Would they try and pull aggro and tame, or try to ruin it some other way?

Image

(Note that my PvP tracker addon--Stalker--doesn't pick people up while in combat, so it's only showing two names.)

So back and forth we went--my blue demon dog--a placeholder named, aptly enough, Sacrifice--was already abandoned. I sent Solix in--again and again. I had found that I wasn't as big a fan of his skin as I'd thought, so when I accidentally abandoned him, too, rather than reviving, I wasn't hugely bothered. I already have a green lava spider, so >.>

Image

The allies milled about. There was still not a single Horde to be seen. Thank GOD I'm on a PvE server; several of the allies there were in PvP guilds that sort of have a grudge with mine. Although I'd have an even chance in a fair fight, 5 v 1 isn't something I fancy while kiting Deth'tilac!

Finally, her debuff vanished, and I laid a final Ice Trap and started my tame. But what's this? The warrior had run in and attacked--while she was rooted--and she spun in place and used Deth-strike. She was down to a VERY low HP percentage, now, and gaining speed as I tried to channel. Shaking, I backed up and kited her until Ice Trap came off cooldown, hoping fervently that none of them tried it again--I suspected she wouldn't survive another.

Image

In the end, though, THANKFULLY, she shrunk down and that name went blue. PHEW. I have never had such a hard tame--she really is a challenge, and I say, THANK YOU Noah/Blizz. This was a great deal of fun!!

I thanked the allies around me--they were all standing quietly around the edges, mostly not interfering at all! Some of them now rode off, perhaps angry or maybe happy for me, I don't know. One of the other hunters stuck around and showed me a rare pet or two, and I smiled at him, then relogged over to my ally alt to thank him.

"Everyone in my group was telling me KILL IT, KILL IT, but I learned the hard way about that with spirit beasts," he told me. He explained that he'd had spirit beast tames killed out from under him four times--and instead of wanting revenge and doing the same to me, he'd remembered how it had felt and stayed back. I really thanked him profusely--he could have easily yanked the rug from under me on this one. All in all I was very very happy with how it turned out--the difficulty of the tame, the kindness of the allies and everything else. Another Alliance hunter even whispered me from a Horde alt asking to see the pet, and talked to me a bit about the various rare spawns and whatnot :)

Major congrats on getting her in the end! :D

I can honestly say she is the first spider that actually looks rather appealing to me (I'm terrified of spiders, you see...).

I'm scared to even attempt looking for her. I know I'll get slaughtered trying to tame her. After all the horror stories I've been reading with the new patch, I'm happy to hear that you managed to get her.

That IS true, although I had to disengage through her once or twice when I ran out of room, lol.

I think the main issue is actually interference from other players, once you have the kiting down. ASSUMING you have Entrapment specced!

Does Deterrance actually work, do you know? Deth Strike says "cannot be dodged" so I didn't want to take that chance! :P

It's a direct in-game screenshot, but I can give you tips on how to get a good one!

* Turn off your name & pet names
* Pick a spot that matches you & your pet
* Use Go To to position your pet, and position yourself, then zoom in and Printscreen!
* If you like, you can post it here and I can resize/add a frame & text, if you want, if you have no art program!

Tbh I have read article from wowinsider about these new chalenging tames, and didnt remember very well how which one is ment to be tamed, but wanted some of them. It was great from you to make me tame Solix basicaly without knowing what is going on from my side. I nearly tamed Deth'tilac a bit ago, but in last moment aliance druid decided to help and killed it.

Super new to the forums - I joined just for this topic!

Tonight I came across Deth'tilac during the busiest time in Firelands, and was lucky enough to tag her first and start my kite. I just kited her slowly, around and around, but unfortunately, I soon attracted some attention from the Allies out doing dailies. While I did get Horde help throughout my kite, the Alliance mage who continued to get himself killed and then come back for more finally brought Deth down low enough for me to start my tame. Then, he continued to dps her, breaking my tame repeatedly and eventually killing her. Is there ANYTHING I can do to avoid this? I'm super frustrated and a lot disappointed.

I was also thinking there might be a quicker way to get her down fast and start my tame. Anyone have suggestions? I struggled with rezzing my pet and staying out of Deth's reach so I mostly just dpsed her down myself. I feel like an incompetent hunter :(

Keep damage on her to keep her slowed, stay at long range, and make sure you're specced for Entrapment, and really it's fairly easy--I only had to cancel pet res two or three times.

As for people who get her killed toward the end--sadly there's no way I know of to stop it
: / I really, really wish she'd stop using the ability once her HP is low enough to be tamed!

Best of luck!!
