I am an Alliance hunter on my server *Velen, US* and have a reputation of helping other hunters out in their search for many different types of rares. I prefer re-homing a rare rather than killing it/seeing it killed for its loot, if any. I have been known to announce in guild and local defense to see if anyone wants the rare I happen upon. If not, I leave it be and fly/walk away. Usually, I do not have any issues with anyone when it comes to camping a rare and everyone taking turns. Until patch 4.2 came out anyway.
Starting the day after the patch was released, trouble started to brew. I knew that competition for the new rares was going to be extremely intense. I expected some good-natured ribbing. However, the thing that I did NOT expect was to be treated the way I was not just by my faction but the opposite faction as well.
For example:
1) Skarr. I must have camped those floating rocks for a good 14 hours straight, not leaving that spot. Hunters came and went, horde and ally both. Other than a few hunters I have known for a while, everyone else left each other alone. When Skarr spawned around 2 AM, I tamed him using the tactics described here with no problem at all. My son and I had just seen the latest Transformers movie and he suggested that I name him Prowl, which I did. Then, as I was leaving the area to do my dailies, I was spat on by a horde hunter. I thought "how immature" and went about my way. The horde hunter followed me and made rude gestures/slapping me/etc. Eventually, he stopped but it was enough to leave me feeling irritated the rest of that day.
2) Karkin. This was an interesting one. Again, the same area was camped and I left the area to try my luck at taming Ban'thalos and while I stood at the top of the tallest tree like a Christmas Ornament near the Sanctuary of Malorne, a Death Knight friend of mine whispered me, saying "Karkin is out and the horde keeps dying while trying to tame him, lmao" and i was like "Let me know if they keep dying then i will go over there and give it a shot but I refuse to leave this spot if at all possible". DK agrees, 5 mins later, he whisps me again, saying "they are still dying, just come here real quick and tame him and leave, lol", so I decided I would go over there and see what the situation was before doing anything else. Needless to say, I get there a few moments later and there are like 8 hunters standing around, looking at each other and prolly saying "how the hell do we catch this crab?" An idiot ally rogue tries to get to him to stun him or something and is promptly seen and killed along with 4 of the horde that was standing around. No one makes a move. Karkin is looking pissed off but tired at this point and I decided that my stable could use another crab in it to keep Ghostcrawler happy. So I ask around me to the ally there if its ok for me to attempt to tame him. I get "Go for it!" and "Hurry!" and take a quick look around before pulling aggro, detecting Karkin's barrage AoE ability I utilize silencing shot, then smack my macro for deterrence and tame beast. Seconds later, I have crab. I mean, I literally have a crab by my side. Needless to say, the horde that was present there at the time was quite ticked at me. I get spat on and slapped and more rude gestures ensued. I was not going to take it this time. I spat and slapped back and promptly rode away, so pissed that I decided to name my pet "Payback"
3) Deth'tilac. This one is a definite sore spot. After another successful day of camping rares, I was luckily able to acquire both Ban'thalos and Magria with a lot of help from some dear ally friends of mine (Lateef, Our, Sono, and Tred!!). I was feeling pretty good about myself when yet another hunter friend whisps me saying that Deth is out and asks if I want him. I know a friend of mine was already actively camping him so I hurry over to the area and see that there is a tame in progress. At least, I thought so. My friend got Deth to nearly 20% and started the tame but a horde hunter that kept trying to steal aggro from him decided he wanted him, too. Needless to say, Deth met his maker that day. My friend was distraught and rightfully so. The horde hunter that killed Deth LOL'D at us before running away and we were dumbfounded. We all vowed to help each other out the next time to ensure that the same thing did not happen. But it did, to me this time. Same scenario, different day and time. And then again to my friend the next time he spawned. We were starting to feel like we were never going to get the purple people eater and tried to stay positive. Then came yesterday Friday July 8, 2011. I was camping that well known spot for several hours and Deth showed his face by spawning right in front of me at 3:10 PM. While I was kiting and throwing my traps down and sending in my trash pet brainfart for repeated sacrifices, I thought things were going well. Then another ally hunter shows up and starts throwing down her traps and sending in her pet. While I am reviving my pet, she takes aggro from me. I managed to get it back but this goes on for quite some time. Finally, another of my friends showed up and was trying to help me but this other hunter was just determined to take Deth away from me. And even though we went back and forth like this for a good while, when he hit 20%, the other hunter managed to start the tame even though I begged her not to since i had been camping for hours and she just showed up and happened upon us. to no avail. I did not get my Deth, and I was literally crushed. I felt like crying and started to receive a ton of whisps (thank God for WIM!) as to why I did not get the tame and if I knew the other hunter ( I did NOT know her nor did I care to). I did not and just thought to myself that maybe my luck had finally ran out. The other hunter just stood there with her newly acquired pet spider and I walked away in great despair, disappointment and sadness.

Why am I telling you all these stories? What it comes down to is respecting each other and the hunt itself. How hard is it to see that a spot is being camped or a tame is in progress and to just let things be and stay out of the way? Is it really necessary to emote with slapping and spitting and rudeness when a tame is made by someone? And why the heck would you want to ninja a rare pet anyway? It goes against everything I had come to believe in being a hunter since the beginning of WoW itself. Hunters should NEVER treat each other this way. Hunters should never be boastful or brag about their tames to someone that also wants that rare as their pet. And even though some of us are on opposite sides (faction wise) that does not mean that we need to treat each other like crap. Offer your knowledge to each other, give suggestions and advice but never think that you are better than anyone else.

So I wanted to say thank you to all those hunters out there that helped me and befriended me, and to the rest of you, well, you know what they say about Karma, right? Its gonna get you sooner or later. Probably sooner.

Thanks for letting me vent here.

Update: I am BEYOND STOKED to report that with the help of Ourlasthope and Petreus, I was finally able to tame Deth without a hitch! I would not have gotten this tame done without their help along with the help of others mentioned in the thread, and of course, everyone here that kept encouraging me, hugging me, telling me to keep trying and so forth. I will NEVER EVER forget every single one of you!
Now, another problem......I need a good name for my purple people eater.....lol. And one last note: this was my 12th straight attempt at trying to tame him and now my camping days are over for a while (I hope!). perhaps i should name Deth Persistence?? lol
HUGS TO ALL!!!!!!!!
