I decided about a week ago that after a much needed break from WoW that I was curious about the new pets that have been added to the game since my leave. So I lurked back here to find a lot of fun new tames that I'd like to try. I decided to go ahead and take Blizzard's 7 free days for my account and start looking for rares a few days ago.
I expected griefers already but in matter of minutes in Molten Front, someone's pet had already cached. And it happened the rest of the night. By the time I gave up most of the rares were cached. And a few hunters were "clever" and named their rare its NPC name triggering my macro too. Very frustrating as we all know. I guess I had figured since my server really isn't very large that maybe I would not have to deal with this behavior as much.
This morning I had a spat with a hunter about having his Deth'tilac sitting out right at his spawn point. I just don't understand the rudeness. And after deciding to just go somewhere else to look, I figured that on my way back to the Regrowth, I would check Skarr's location quickly. For this hunter I have decided to tame Skarr, Deth, and both the spectral kitties and grab the rest of the rares on my currently leveling second hunter.
I hit the corner around where Kirix 's spawn, and my NPCscan blows up. COntinuing around the corner, I see a hunter sitting at the spawn point. My heart sank a little, and I was annoyed that another hunter is just sitting at his spawn point with Skarr out. Then I decided to be sure and mouse over the hunter pet. A FOX! It was Ashtail! So I started to spam the targeting icon for NPCscan. The portrait pops up with the little green triangle over his head and no pet buffs. IT'S HIM all the way over at his other spawn! The hunter next to me must not have NPCscan. I felt a little guilty as I started to hop over. But he was Alli, and I don't have any Alli alts.
I begin to hop rocks and must have tried to jump to the wrong one. I fell to my death. I spirit rez'd and decided to go ahead and try even with rez sickness. 3 attempts and 3 deaths later, 4 minutes still on my sickness, and I decide to hearth back to Org. I pick up as much haste as I can, hop over to the trainer to switch to MM, spec down to Silencing Shot and fly back. I have been shaking this entire time. I head back up and find him still just standing there. Waiting. This time I flawlessly jump all the rocks. Run up, hit tame beast, break it, followed by Silencing Shot, and Tame Beast. I watched my meter go down and he hopped to my side.
I have no idea how I got so lucky. Molten Front isn't too busy right now, but I expected within 10 minutes, he would have met up with another hunter! Now it's time to pick out a name for this guy. He's super cool. I'm very glad I found him.

Re: Skarr welcomed me back
My Skarr was an unwanted dumb luck pet. I thought he was too much like the shiny ZG cats and didn't bother camping him, only camping Karkin. Skarr spawned, the other hunters were ALSO camping Karkin and no one wanted Skarr, so I decided "wtf, might as well" and switched to MM and tamed him. An ally worgen showed up later to /cry on me, but he was late. I would have let him have it. ;(

Re: Skarr welcomed me back
I feel like I was welcomed back by Skarr as well. I had been hunting for him since 4.2 release. Unfortunately I only saw Karkin spawns and the 1 Skarr that did spawn was tamed right after I had alt tabbed out for a few seconds. After that I was too crushed to keep camping so I gave up on him. Then my internet went out Monday (yes, I'm one of the unfortunate Fairpoint customers in the New England area) and I didn't get any internet back until this morning. I decided, what the hell, why not check. So I respecced MM, hopped over to the spawn points (after a fall death); nothing at the first point. I travel to the second and see a red dot, hover over it and it's Skarr! There is absolutely no one around which was really surprising. Performed the tame as recommended by other hunters and he's mine
Not 2 seconds later an Ally hunter logs on in the exact spot where I tamed him. It's been a great day.
P.S. I named mine Samhain.
