Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
So I was browsing blizzard forums yesterday, and came across an odd topic.
The guy was asking for hunters to tell him how a 60k chimera shot was possible on a regular basis. I went out of my way to try and summarize things on the thread, but it turned into 11 pages (at last count) of harassment and abuse to the guy. But any time I mentioned it I was flamed, or ignored.
Here's the thread:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2869317226
My two main posts summarizing everything.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic ... page=8#153
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic ... age=10#196
The hunter "profile" I made for them to reference gear.
http://www.wowhead.com/profile=26100980#inventory
So, I have two questions. One, could someone explain to me the mechanics on how, so I can relay them to the original poster? I'm a BM, I never use my offspec so I have no clue on it.
And can anyone tell me why people feel like they have to be so awful when someone is asking to preserve their good faith in other players?

Damn, those guys are jumpy-paranoid.
And the sheer inability to read what the guy actually posted. Sheesh.
Yeah, he didn't analyze the situation enough to realize that 60k before-resil crits were quite possible (if not better than that), but that's why he was posting because he'd never seen any hunter do that before.
I do have some understanding for the paranoia, because Blizzard seems quite happy to leave hunters as easy meat in PvP while at the same time nerfing our damage which is supposed to be the tradeoff for being so fragile and easily stopped.

Yeah, I mean when I was reading it, I was really shocked. I just guess not everyone can be as understanding. Oh well :-/

The official forums tend to be a giant cesspit honestly. Granted, a lot of WoW's player base IS pretty rude but sheesh.

Lol, it was pretty sad. I'm just glad Blizz finally noticed and deleted the thread. An abusive thread really serves no purpose, just makes people angry. That's why I think I'll stick to being here. At least this is a good community. ^.^

1) They read half your question and say you're stupid for not covering the details ... that you covered in the half of your post that they didn't read.
2) They don't read any of the question, and just say you're stupid for something totally irrelevant (like the time I asked for DPS advice on my fury warrior, and one guy was like "tailoring?? lawls" - I was like "yeah did you notice how I also have engineering, or is that also a 'lawls' profession for warriors in your book?"
3) They say you're too stupid to bother with and to just reroll, then when you hit them back, they turn into big blubbery babies and cry that they "were only trying to help" and see what they get for their "trouble"?
4) They read the entire question and post a thoughtful response - sadly TLPD sightings happen more often.
In the end, it's just not worth the hassle imo - the only time I still go there is when a google search takes me to a specific post.

Brian Wood mentioned the Huntsman's Lodge forums in his post yesterday. It is probably a friendlier place to discuss class mechanics than the Blizz forums.

All forums are bad in one way or another. WoW forums tend to be full of people who use passive aggressive trolling (they will counter-post in reply to your original post in a way as to derail the thread) purely to troll. But these forums can be rude too, if you're not talking about BM as an awesome spec.

No. The Official Forums are worse than both of those combined.ThatMelonGuy wrote:I thought that was Wowhead or MMo Champion...Jessibelle wrote:Well here's the answer.....

Re: Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
im guessing that was a pvp post. only way i get 60K chimaera shots is with full raid buffs (with full debuffs on boss) and when it crits. would be difficult to consistently do that against pvp geared players.
there are rude people everywhere. probably more so on the internet, because they're hiding behind their avatar/computer, and don't have to face any real consequence like getting beat up, stabbed, or shot.

Re: Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
Being a pet-oriented forum, I imagine we have a larger percentage of BM hunters (at least as an off-spec) than the general populace. These forums are usually very friendly, but we almost all have strong feelings about Something wow related. I know I've let that get away from me on occasion, but I usually try to keep it reined in.Jessibelle wrote:That's....not true at all. Re: Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
Ah, no. I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with Carnacki. If you have an opinion different than the vast majority, people won't like you for it. I get plenty of flak if I ever say, "If I see a rare fair and square, I'll kill it if I want to." People always yell at me for that because they insist that as hunter only rares, anyone so much as even looking at them (and isn't a hunter) is a horrible person that should have all their characters deleted and account canceled.Jessibelle wrote:That's....not true at all. Well, this is true everywhere, on-line or off-line. The best we can do is try to be as civil as possible to people with whom we disagree.Azunara wrote:If you have an opinion different than the vast majority, people won't like you for it.

Re: Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
... yeah, because you're posting on a hunter pet site? "Oh hey guys, I totally get to kill your pets." Then you're shocked people might not think much of someone who runs around killing rares that drop a grey? o_oAzunara wrote:

That's like tying steaks to yourself then jumping into a shark tank and being shocked they bit you.
If you hadn't noticed, there's a wide variety of opinions that are respected here and for some reason people keep bringing up "WHAT!? People get annoyed I talk about my right to kill hunter pets ALL THE TIME even in an unrelated topic! You are all crazy and rude!" Quite frankly, it's old. No one even -mentions- killing rares or anything and it's "Well no one likes me because I kill rares here

No one /yells/ at you. No one even brings it up 90% of the time. You'll have to forgive me, but I'm going to disagree. People are /very/ polite to differing opinions, even ones that are beaten harder than eggs in industrial machinery. o_o No one /cares/. People will kill rares if they see them. It's ingrained. I want hunter rares protected, sure. But I keep it to appropriate topics. Could we stop with the 'NO ONE LIKES ME BECAUSE I AM DIFFERENT' persecution complex and baiting people?
That said, the general forums are a cesspit regardless. There's trolls and people who genuinely give no froot loops to those around them. It's vaguely perturbing to me how people don't see others in an MMO as 'real people'. Petopia is one of the friendliest, most respectful forums I've ever been on.
Edit: Also and if someone *is* yelling, the mods will come down upon them like a steamroller launched from the heavens. Which is quite nice, seeing as the general forums of WoW are ... yeah. Full of all sorts of horrible -isms, phobias and general asshattery.

Re: Why are hunters on Blizzard forums always so rude?
To me it seems as though topics such as 'rare killing' and 'BM or gtfo' are brought up more often than they actually occur. I recall just recently we had a thread discussing the killing of rares, and I believe most people agreed that there was no problem with it. I don't remember many instances where people are bashed or yelled at involving those subjects, but I see them brought up constantly nonetheless. They seem like a non-issue to me, honestly, but they almost turn into one just due to the negative repetition.
