Reporting griefing even worth it anymore ?

Unread post by AdamSavage »

I'm starting to wonder if either the GM's are being very lazy, or blizzard simply doesn't care about griefing. Twice I've reported players and twice I got the exact same reply, right down to a letter. In fact this time, the GM had the nerve to send me a message to tell me they replied via in game mail..I did there survey and gave the gm bad marks and I'm willing to take it one step further and send a feedback email about the GM who replied to my ticket.

This is the reply they seem to give you now..
Greetings!

Thank you for taking the time to report this matter to us. We will be looking into the concern and will take appropriate action where needed. Please understand that we cannot divulge any details on what steps may be taken with another player's account.

We would also like to take this opportunity to inform you of a newly added method to ensure all offenses are addressed quickly and efficiently. You may now use the “Report Player” feature to express your concerns directly, without having to submit a standard GM ticket. This feature can be accessed by right-clicking the player’s name in chat and choosing the “Report Player” option from the list.

We greatly appreciate your assistance in keeping World of Warcraft a clean and fun environment for everyone and thank you for your time and understanding!

Regards,

Ah, looks like the standard, "You reported this, cool. We'll deal with it" ticket. I mean, they have to answer a lot of thse every day. If they put together time to write responses for each one, they'll be wasting a lot of time. What do you expect them to say? "Good job reporting X, Hunter! We shall now ban him in the name of Anti-Grieferdom!"

Pretty much. Their job pretty much states they are not allowed to tell you the information because its an invasion of the other players privacy otherwise.

Pretty much what the others said.

I will add that even if some of these GMs do nothing, the report goes on record... and that adds up.

When people just don't bother to report, that's when the head-in-sand, hear no evil / see no evil types in the Blizzard rules & enforcement department have it easy, because they can just say "We're not getting any reports, so there must not be a problem! FIX'T"

My point is though, it seems the GM didn't even bother to read the ticket. His 2nd part of the reply is useless, report them via report player option ? What good is that going to do me if they don't say anything in general, or there of the opposite faction. I'm fine with the standard reply they normally give you, it's just the useless stuff that annoys me. Had he said we are looking into it blah blah I would of been fine. It just doesn't feel like he even bothered to take the time to read it.

Again, standard. You're reporting an issue, he is speaking about something relevant, namely how to report a player without putting in a ticket. Essentially, "They're on your Faction? Instead of waiting, just report them by report player!" Not a surprise. I see nothing wrong with that reply.

It is useless, because it is based solely on the person actually saying something in general chat. So if griefer xyz doesn't say anything in general, then report player does not do any good now does it? You can't just right click on there toon and do it, because there is no option there. I've already tried.

So the GM may not have paid attention to your request.

Sometimes you get bad ones, lazy ones, or dumb ones. But that's not a reason to stop reporting - if you think they bungled your ticket, you can always ask for an escalation to a senior GM.

Just because they clicked on the "auto insert reply here" does NOT mean they didn't properly consider your report. I'm sure they have filters to help sort out bug reports, glitches, "OMGNEEDHELPNAO!", abuse/griefing, etc. And considering the community that often seems most vocal in game.. I'm SURE that those that are shoved into the abuse/griefing pile have a LOT on their plate. If using the "auto insert" button means that they can get to 25 reports every half hour rather than just 10... I'm not going to complain. It means that 25 people are now banned, warned, stuck on the naughty list, whatever, rather than just 10, which could POSSIBLY mean a more enjoyable, happy place to play.

At least your report was somewhat understood. I've literally had to respond to some tickets with pretty much "wtf are you talking about? That isn't relevant at ALL. Can you please reread my original ticket?"... and I usually get a better response the 2nd time (usually.....).

It's worth remembering that GMs are likely under HUGE pressure to get through tickets quickly. I've noticed that ticket response times have become noticeably worse recently and suspect they've either cut staffing or are getting more tickets than they used to, and if your boss tells you you have to get faster, you get faster.

Well I did check up on the Hunter via the Armory and it says he has not had any Activity in 2 days..Could just be a coincidence though, and doesn't mean he has not been online. However I did add him to my friend list and I don't think I've seen him online either.

Ironically.... that's the exact same message I got through via in-game mail for reporting a phishing attempt. I've reported several for trying to send me to a bugged website saying my account is under suspicion/reported by other players/ect unless I go to the website and verify my account.

On those, I've always had a ticket reply at least. But to have this in-game method of saying "we read it and don't care" really p****es me off, especially over account security.

I don't know what Blizz thinks they're doing, at least read and give a quick reply that's not automated.

I would pay to find out what there train of thought was, when they decided to put a bunch of rares in the middle of a major questing hub..Just today there was a hunter that had Deth'tilac taken from him. He originally tagged the spider and another hunter came along and steal aggro from him. This resulted in him not being able to tame Deth'tilac when he reached 20%. This patch is really bringing out the worst in people, and it honestly feels like blizzard is turning a blind eye to what has been going on. I can't speak for them, as I don't know they have planned but it's frustrating none the less.

Simple - maximum possible player exposure for every "special" feature. Amount of man hours spent designing something must be defrayed by # players who have experienced it. That's the initiative Ghostcrawler swept in on, and it's become the new Prime Directive from what I can see.

Which is not to say they have no care or understanding of the situation it puts us hunters in - else the griefers and thieves would still have DS and taunt to aid their efforts; it's just that for cost reasons, I think we can all expect to be put through the meat grinder for our rares, going forward.

This is just idle speculation here, but my guess is that the cool concept of challenge tames was incorporated into the planned quest hub for the patch. Unfortunately, the hub is on the small, compact side, which doesn't work too well with tames that require finesse.

It's a cool experiment with some downsides. Once people move out of the Front, we'll start seeing the challenge tames in their prime. :)

Hopefully we'll see this concept evolve in the future. Only then will we truly see the devs learning from this experiment. :D

I was thinking the same thing myself earlier, I think once people get everything they can get out of there it will die down. Then of course you will have people bringing in there alts. I've started to bring my druid in there as well.
