Argh - A Tough Decision

Unread post by Rhyela »

I still think I *might* release Loque'nahak. I think I prefer animals that are more real-looking, and he just has this very weird appearance about him. His spots are weird, his shape is weird, his face is kinda weird, his neck is stick-thin. I still like him, but I like Gondria a lot more, whether she "matches" me or not. My brother said Loque matches me more because he has this feral look to him, while Gondria is prettier.....and I think of my hunter as the tougher type, so I can see why he'd say that.

But, he's not one I was actually looking for. Initially, when I even became interested in spirit beasts, I wanted Gondria (this is after I tamed Arcturis and decided I liked the beast family, just not the bear). But then, my husband found Loque just wandering around one night in Sholazar so I figured I'd just tame him for the heck of it. And I did like him, still do, but he wasn't the one I was initially interested in. Gondria was one that I wanted to start with. I wasn't high enough to tame her at the time, and once I hit 80 I started doing heroic grinding, so I kinda put my interest in her to the side. But now that I've got my gear (for the most part, there are still some upgrades I could use) and have more "leisure time", I can start thinking about beasts again.

Then, over the past week or two, I'd keep seeing this one hunter in Stormwind and Dalaran with Gondria. I always had to stop and look at how bright and pretty she was, and the more I saw her the more I wanted her. That's when finally I decided that I'd look for her a little more seriously, even if it meant doing a few less dungeons than usual. And then when I did find her, I was so excited! And seeing her bright, swirling form and green eyes for the first time by my side, I fell in love. So, to me it doesn't matter that she doesn't look as wild and feral as Loque, she's the spirit beast I wanted from the start and I already like her a lot more.

So, now my problem becomes: do I keep Loque since I do still kinda like him (but not as much)? To be quite honest, I probably won't use him at all when Shikon hits 80. Or, do I keep him since he "matches" me? Do I hang in there for a few more months in the hopes that we'll get more stable slots, or do I release him now so that I can start looking for a PvP-oriented pet? (Some of my friends/guildies want to try arena soon). It's not like I can NEVER get him back. I've camped rare spawns before and I have no qualms about doing it again, if I choose to do so later down the road.

My stable is as follows: 1) Apollyon (King Krush - never releasing, EVAR); 2) Shikon (Gondria, love her lots); 3) Dante (Loque'nahak - like him but don't love him); 4) Tetsusaiga (Echeyakee - my first "special" pet that I won't release); and 5) Sheldon (run-of-the-mill green turtle from Hillsbrad, but I just adore him and prefer to keep him).

My brother says keep Loque, I was about ready to release him last night til my brother said not to.....argh! I guess I just had to think out loud and see if anyone has any suggestions. Keep in mind that I will likely be doing some PvP soon. Plus, I have been missing my little silithid buddy Surge.....

If your heart isn't into him completely, release him. I will probably release my Landowar come Cata unfortunately, unless they revamp stables. Because as much as I love him, it was Gondria and Skoll I wanted for Yas more. Loque was Ryai's tame more than anything.

Besides nothing says if you change your mind, that you can't go back and occasionally look for him :)

I too am for abandoning it. And this isn't just Saturo the Loqueburner speaking, my point is that if you don't like it, and would rather have some form of PvP pet, go for it.

I also exist on DeviantArt.

Yeah that's Loque', when I first saw him I thought he was "The" Spirit Beast as he is the Original...

As you mentioned wanting to PvP soon; course you want a PvP-Pet to hang out with you; I'd consider hanging out with Loque'nahak, take him on some instances, in battle grounds, or whatever you enjoy doing, if your heart's really not there for him you'll know & ultimately decide from there.

Besides... he's not that long of a camp, even when I got him...again! 'facepalm' I only waited about four hours in Sholazar.

Basically he'll always be roaming Sholazar waiting for someone to love him; so if you choose later to get him again he'll be waiting for ya'. :)

That's the thing, I have taken him on several instances since getting him and while he sounds cool and all, I just "like" him, that's it. I've "liked" plenty of pets and ended up letting them go, lol. But now that I love Shikon (Gondria), I look at Dante and say, "Eh, he's okay". :(

I do seem to have pretty good luck with the spirit beasts (found all of them with less than an hour of time put into each one), so I'm not too worried about not being able to find him if I let him go. Besides, I figure if I went through the misery that is taming King Krush, I can surely do a simple sit-and-camp again if I change my mind down the road. :P

I've been researching different PvP pets and am finding myself excited to try some different ones out to see how they work with me. :D

Loque has been a friend but I think it's time to let him go. Shikon is my awesome spirit beasty now. <3

Edit: Tacos FTW Tilo! :D

Well, if you have Gondria, and don't love Loq, release him... I've been doing circles for Loq/Skoll/Gondria forever... From my PoV, it's a VERY long camp, seeing as I haven't caught one yet, but even so, Tilo is right, if you really want him back, you can always do the circles for him later

Regarding a PvP pet if I ever consider PvPing I'd go for Rot; the red hyena or Charlotte; the undead spider around Icecrown.

I hope you get some luck Gimlion on your spirit beast search; in my long time of being in Sholazar, I had NPC_Scan go off at least four times for Loque'nahak, as he seemed pretty common; & it was always west side of the Skyreach Pillar near the gorillas.

Well, I did it, I released Loque'nahak back by the gorillas where I (ok, my husband) first found him. It was a bit of a bittersweet moment, as I /hugged and /thanked him for his help and support. But I didn't have much problem clicking "abandon" beyond that. I know that should I change my mind down the road, I can camp him and get him back. I know I can, because I have that kind of determination when I want something really bad.

But then, once I started doing a few runs with Shikon, all thoughts of Dante disappeared and all was well. I'm happy with Shikon, and I'm happy with my decision.

I tamed a few pvp-esque pets tonight. I started with a serpent and from there tamed a ravager and a chimaera (all in Outlands). Once I got the chimaera though, I was surprised at how much I liked him immediately. He looks completely wicked. I think his eyes are weird and his chin blades are...odd, to say the least, but he's still really awesome. So I think I'll try him out in PvP and see how it goes. I definitely like how he looks flying by my side though, and I don't find his size or wings to be a problem at all (yet). Haven't thought of a name for him yet and I don't even know where to begin, but I know it will come to me.

Neat that you found something you enjoyed, never had a Chimera before myself, not much for the flappy kind of pets... regardless I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy pvping with.

As much as it hurts to say it, for you, it sounds like letting Loque go was the right choice. Sometimes a pet, even a rare, hard-won one, just doesn't click. I'm glad you found a better fit. :)

You're probably going to fly out to Ohio just to slap me, but that's two spirit beasts I've let go now. The first was Arcturis, then Loque'nahak. Strangely enough, when I tamed them, I hadn't been looking for either one. They were just standing there. Maybe that's part of the reason I didn't like them as much? I actually went and looked for Gondria because I wanted her. The other two were tamed on a whim.

So that's three times I've seen Arcturis and two times I've seen Loque'nahak. I've seen Gondria once and haven't seen Skoll at all. Though Tilo did finally get him while I was in H CoS (had been helping her search between heroics), so in a way I've seen him...I guess?

Ohio you say? Hmm...that's not really that far...Arcturius AND Loque, my two favorite spirit beasts. /sigh.

You're right though. I think the hunt is often part of the bond. For example, I'm trying to talk my husband into not releasing Humar. He stumbled over him early one morning, going to Org to fish.
Him: "Huh, a black lion"
Me: "What? Black..where are you at??"
Him: "Barrens. Should I...?"
Me, running into his study...
And there Humar was, sleeping peacefully with his pride in the early morning light. Wish I had a screenshot.
Me: "Don't kill Humar!"
Him: "Who?"
Me: "Just tame him. Please."
I had been looking for Humar on my other hunter off and on for a while. Unfortunately, she is on a different server. So, now he has Humar and had never even heard of him before! Every time he has him out, I say how handsome of a cat he is, look at how well he kills. But I know it's a matter of time until Humar gets turned out in the cold. If he'd been hunting for him, it might be different.
But even then, there have been times I busted my behind to get some "gotta have it" pet, only to release it a few days later. Its a funny old world. Of warcraft. :)

Aye,

In all honesty I have tamed every single rare that is tamable in this game... I always woot and feel a rush finally taming that insanely hard pet, but they have never stuck in the end. I end up with the plainest, generic pets in the end on every Hunter I have ever played. I have never understood why I can't develop any sort of bond with any of those wonderful rares, yet I just don't. Just like ThunderPaw my old brown bear. I find he always means much more to me than say Krush or the rest...

Go with your gut and pretty much don't worry about anything else...

My first piece of advice is to not listen to Saturo. She hates Loque. And she smells funny, even for a gnome.

My next, and less important piece of advice, is to keep only what you really enjoy or like having. I was in the reverse situation of you, I had capture Gondria, and finally managed to capture Loque. But I do not need two spirit beasts, so I was forced to let Gondria go. In pretty much the same way you let Loque go, actually, back where I fond her, on the edge of Zul Drak by the bears and snow leopards there. My other four stable slots are PERMANENT, but I like to keep that last one open for experimentation and what have you.
