Is it bad that I have rares?

Unread post by Qinni »

I honestly love all my pets if they where rare or not, I had commons in the past and have them on other hunters...its just I love the skin and love them for them! Not because they are rare! If Blizzard made any of the spirit beasts common or my favorite yellow worm common, I would still tame one. There is a reason for each rare that I tamed though.

I tamed King Krush cause I like green...A LOT! (same thing with Opal, Iggy and Olive, they are green! <3)

I tame spirit beasts cause they keep reminding me and inspire me of the abstract art that I do. Just all those pretty swirls of mist coming out of each one is breath taking!

Tamed Madexx cause for my Scorpio birth sign!

*sigh* Guess you think I'm pathetic for having all the rares and basically being the typical average hunter stable or has no "character and personality".

What's gotten me in this icky mood was this thread: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 34&t=14424

No, I don't think it's bad at all. I know that for many people, rares happen to be the excitement of the class, or the most beautiful pets. I certainly have rares that I love, I just don't feel the need to collect every one.

I suppose the Trophy Cabinet way of thinking is something I don't personally enjoy. I realize that's just how some people play their hunters though, and to them collecting each and every unique rare/spirit beast is the reason they play. Nothing wrong with that! It's just not a mindset that I can empathize with. There is no wrong way, everyone plays the game how they want to. There are just certain hunter behaviours that I don't relate to myself. It's all very much personal preference.

I happen to see more personality in a stable with many commons solely because I have a hard time differentiating stables that are all identical. 'Common' pets are so rarely seen, they are in fact more rare than true Rare pets. We have over 400 individual pet models available to our class, yet such a small percentage is used by many people. Seeing the same handful of models is repetitive, whereas seeing the lesser used commons is refreshing since it's something different. I'm not saying one way is good and the other is bad. For me, when everyone has the same rare pets, I can't really get a feel for who their character is when compared to another character because so many stables look alike nowadays. Does that make sense?

Exactly. Some people view collecting unique pets fun just like some people enjoy collecting mounts, minipets, achievements, etc. In fact, that's how I view it myself, when I go after rares. Madexx, Gondria, Skoll, and Arcturis are temporarily in my stables just for show. (Although after I finishe my spirit beast collection I'm going to do a massive stable clearance).

I guess so but I have the feeling of dumping all my rares and taming the pets I used to have before the rares but I can't do that cause I love them. I mostly love my yellow worm the most cause I've always admired it since vanilla.

No, I don't think it's bad, as long as you realize your pets are no more special than anyone else's just because they're rare or unique. That is the only problem I have with certain rare collectors, and that's the asinine idea that rare uniques > common and therefore rare collectors > people without rares and/or unique pets.

The ones who do it to be 'unique' make me snicker, because when it comes to hunter pets the rares are the more common out of the two - but tame whatever the hell you like. Rare, common, 25 red shale spiders - it's not like we can stop you.

I don't like the rare collecting aspect of hunters, but I'm not about to go out of my way to make anyone feel bad about it. I have rares myself. I've just never had the urge to sit in the same spot for days waiting on a pet that I will never realistically use, all for e-peen.

Aw, don't dump them. Just because they're unique/common (that doesn't make sense >.>;) doesn't mean they're automatically boring and useless. If you really think about it, there's only so many pets to tame anyway, so just go with whatever the hell you like. I know after I'm done collecting I'm going to do exactly that- whether rare or not.

All pets are equal in my book. I'm not one of those "RARE OR GTFO" hunters, if I was I wouldn't be a hunter at all.

@Nubhorns - I've actually neve rcamped anything in my life accept for Ank and Oozeworm but even that wasn't for ever. It just so happens that I went there and waited 10min or so and my worm popped and for Ank I was making something to eat so I left myself parked there after my dailies and when I came back she was there. I don't have any patience at all to stay in one place forever. I do know my pets aren't anymore special then the a common barrens lion to a wolf that ever other hunter has.

Every single pet my hunter has is a rare, or unique. I have the purple warp stalker that has to be summoned, I have a dragonhawk from ZA before it was changed, I have the beetle from Naxx, and most ALL the spirt beasts, except Arcturis, Karoma, and Banth. I have Solix, and Anthriss, Magria, Gondira, and Ankha, Skoll and an oil wolf, and 2 Madexxes. The hive queen in Sholazaar, Krush, and Loque. Pogey, Skarr,Karkin, and the purple croc summoned in Uldum. And Terrorpene, Nuramoc, and Sambas. And I love them ALL.

The only COMMON that I have is the green spider in Molten Front, but no one but ME knows its NOT really Kirix.

I tame the pets because I love them, and I raised them, and they are my partners. I can use pets in all my specs, and I use most of them equally, and love them all the same.

Most of my rares I have because ther are unique; I like green pets, for example. Green devilsaur? Green shale spider? Green old world chimera?Green lava spider? Rares (even counting the broodlings as they aren't always up).

Blue/purple parrot? Rare.
Bluey purpley pink chimera? Rare.
Orange worm? Rare.

Most of the time, I find myself cornered by rares; the skins I like best always end up being unique rares. I don't get them because they are rare, I just have no choice outside of rares. Trust me, I hate it.

That's the same way for me! Every skin I tame happens to turn out rare. :C I always wanted those Lavender sabers but I could never get past those nails. It looks like they where painted on.

And my first parrot used to be a green and yellow one until I found out about the ones in Deadmines but they never want to come out, next day upon logging in my bf surprised me with a purple one.

No but as soon as you start to act like your better than someone becouse you have a "rare" pet thats when it's bad.

I can't count how many times I've been dissed for my white tallstrider becouse its not "the good colours" IE pink, purple and blue/green. I've learned to shrug those people off lol

This.

Most of my stable is rares, but play what you like to play. Commons, rares, whatever.

Now on the other hand, I need to clean out my stables. A lot of pets never see the light of day. I actually wish we never got 25 slots, 10 would make us be a lot more selective in what we go out and tame.

That's awful! I think white is a wonderful color! I have a white tallstrider on my baby hunter myself! I'm making an all white collection since she is a white Tauren. C:

And like I said before, if I ever had that attitude I wouldn't be playing a hunter at all or wont be being wow at all. That behavior is unacceptable!

It's just as bad when someone acts as if they're 'better' or 'have more personality' for being common as they do rares.

It's like wearing hats. Some people wear them to show off. Some to be comfy. Some for both. If you like your hats? Don't throw them away.

Remember: Haters gonna hate. Use what you like and enjoy. Novi has a lot of rares and I love them all. Most of them have stories behind their tames and I love how they look. Stormrunner is my common using hunter and I love them too.

Edit: And speak for yourself, Slickrock. :( I am an animal lover and have not enough spots ! *hides*

QFT. I love my pets because they are my pets, not because they fit under any of those labels. :)

I Originally created my hunter for the sole purpose of Taming Eecyakee. I wanted a whole "Ghost Hunter" theme so I made my Hunter with a Ghost-white Mane to try to match Eecyakee's and every Pet I Tamed was White to keep the theme.

As Soon as I got the Stranglethorn, I instantly fell in love with King Bangalesh and switched to him and kept him thorughout Wrath and into Cata, When I finally Managed to tame Gondria (not really "White" but I felt he kept the "ghost" feel and kind of felt that this was Still my same cat but taken on a new form.)

Funny thing is, I hunter's name Wasn't Atraiyu back then. That was my Cat's name. I took my Cat's name to honor my long time partner (and because it was the name I wanted to begin with but was taken at the time.)

But the point is, even a common Pet can be special to you, often for various reasons. Find one you love and Make them the best friend you want.

Its not a bad thing at all :D

I happen to have a lot of rares, but not just becase "Omg I need it!" A lot of the rares I will wind up finding by accident, and I have a hard time abandoning them later on. Most of my rares (Only a few don't) All come out of the stable frequently for one role or another, and nearly all of my pets have a backstory to them and how Zui found them. Just because you have rares, doesn't mean you have a boring, un-bonded stable full of pets :)

If all these pets I had were common skins, I would have tamed them all the same, but I find that blizzard puts REALLY beautiful and refined skins on most rares.

Another thing that attracts me to rares, is, after camping hours and hours for one I generally develop a bond with the critter. ;)

That being said..I seriously need to get rid of the ones I don't use.

The secret to choosing and being happy with hunter pets is to not give a &*(!@ what anyone else thinks about your pets. :)

I agree with Gorman, if you like them, enjoy playing them, what should it matter what other people think? If your not one of those rare collectors who has to catch em all for no reason and release them right away knowing you wouldnt like them.. then thats the issue but most of mine are rares to, not because they are rare but because I like them and like using them. Or got attached them but dont use but couldnt ever release em

This is my opinion also.

I have absolutely nothing against people taming a stable full of rares if they truly like those skins and not just because they are "unique" and "rare". And whatever my personal opinions on the latter taming style, people may play as they wish, and it is none of my business.

In the thread you linked I was merely pointing out that I rarely say anything in the threads celebrating the tame of Loque/Krush/Skarr/etc./etc., because though I am delighted that people have tamed the pets they want, I can hardly discern one thread from another (I do always read them and cheer silently, however :)). I have often wanted to make a thread about my pets, but felt that nobody would be interested since the majority are not unique rares, and I was pleasantly surprised that someone just came out and showed their totally "normal" pets that are very special to her. It made me happy.

But I have seen enough of your signatures Qinni, to know how strongly you feel about your pets, particularly Krush and the yellow worm. That too makes me happy, whether they are rares or not. :D
