The right beast is out there.

Re: Stuck :(
What I'm saying is: Try anything and everything. No matter how obscene, how much you think you won't like it, you'll be surprised. And don't be afraid to let go a treasured pet if all they do is sit in the stables. You can always, always, always get them back, and they will be waiting for you.

So, keep looking and trying things. Oh, and the rare parrot spawn...there's these Kaliri birds in Skettis (Terokar, Outland) that have similar colors.

Re: Stuck :(
Not even 10 minutes after I typed that (Azunara do not take offense! ><) I was helping a friend with a quest in WS I had been hunting Araga and to no avail. When I went to go help my friend up near frostsaber rock as he went to turn in his quest I tabbed out. I tabbed in to Rak'shiri who had spawned right in front of me nose to nose and didnt attack me... It seemed he liked me all ready I quickly snagged him and upon hearing him idle roar and shake his head I fell in love.. I guess what I needed was a cat..his eyes draw me in and hes just too cute.. Hes feroscious yet looks loving at the same time. I guess you dont pick a pet a pet picks you.

Re: Stuck :(
This. Both my main and Petopian hunter are in a bit of a crisis, looking to abandon some of their current pets for something more meaningful. I often take long trips around Azeroth and Outland, just taming everything that looks remotely interesting. But the thing is... I need a real challenge, an unique skin that takes serious commitment to tame. A really good example is King Krush, whom I managed to tame on my main a few weeks back: not only was there the problem of FINDING him, but also finishing the tame without getting feared. If only there were more hard tames like that...FuzzyDolly wrote:See and I'mn having that problem now. Been 80 for a while, don't really raid, hate doing BGs. I'm just looking for a pet I can connect with now. Don't get me wrong, I love my spirit beasts, and they're fun and all, but I need something that immediately grabs my attention and love.
Re: Stuck :(
Really though, glad you found your pet! I love the skin, Moonlight leveled from 60-80 with me, and he's retired to Cata comes.

Re: Stuck :(

By the time I was in Outland, I hadn't used Bluemoon since 46 and was ready to abandon him, but something stopped me. I never knew what it was, but I just couldn't get rid of him, despite him being useless. Luckily, at 66, the pre-WotLK patch happened, and he auto-leveled to 61. After that I never looked back.

Moral of the story: You'll know when you find your special pet, you'll love it when they're there, and miss them when they aren't. Until then, keep trying out pets you like the look of. And most importantly, if you have a special bond with a pet, don't abandon them!

Re: Stuck :(
You know you were meant to be a Hunter when you suffer this much over a pet crisis... We're not like Warrior's, Mage's or any other class in WoW... No, we worry over our companions in arms like no other...
I'm a Cat person as well. Strange that I don't use one in game more. I dislike pets with abilities I never use and prowl is more-or-less useless to me as a rule. I do have Harley in my stable though. A plain / standard Tiger from those Troll islands near the Den. I've had dozens of cats in real life over the years, but Harley holds a special place. A decade ago my family lived in a different neighborhood than the one we're in now. A next door neighbor had dogs and cats. Sadly they seemed to all be mistreated. Their small Beagle managed to always find his way to our house for safety. A time later a female cat of theirs had kittens. I was walking up the road and noticed their son out in the yard one day. He was swinging a 2x4 , but I will not say at what... Needless to say I slipped up unnoticed and when he went for something better suited for the task I swept in and scooped the survivors up. Now, usually I tend to exact a bit more from such people, but this kid was a special case. He was mentally impaired and only copied what he was shown by his father. It's sad, but not entirely the kids fault. When I came home with battered 6 week old kittens my wife never blinked. To her credit she knew who she married and never asks about animals I drag home. I loaded the kittens up and drove to the vet. Our local vet is an awesome lady and knows me by first name lol... The tiny female kitten had suffered blunt force trauma to the skull and the vet offered to put her down for free, but I just couldn't do it. I told her to patch the kittens up as best she could and we'd let fate decide the females outcome.
Now, I raised my four son's into men surely I could do the same for these kittens. Trust me it was tougher than I imagined. The female suffered brain damage from the assault, but after a time she began to improve. She learned to walk again and soon ran around with her siblings on my living room floor. She's always been tiny compared to all my other cats. Full grown she only weighs 5 pounds, a side effect of her earlier injuries. Don't let the story fool you though. That tiny thing commands respect in my house. Our 25 pound tomcat learned that the hard way. The males were fighting amongst themselves in the kitchen one night over a piece of tuna and out of the blue little Harley jumped down from the kitchen table and cleared the floor. The males instantly backed off except our Alpha male. I tend to break up disagreements between the boys, but before I could Harley laid the big males nose open. They say cats can't display emotion on their faces, but that big tomcat looked as shocked as any person I've ever seen. Old Nip was almost 20 years old when he passed away, but after that he never bothered Harley again.
My wife says that Harley was meant to be a dog though. She follows me around everywhere and sleeps on my pillow above my head. Sometimes my kids come home to visit, and they always say hello to Harley before me lol... She guards the house like a pitbull. If a stranger comes inside it'll be her you see trotting towards them growling under her breath. She's tough as nails...
I pull my Tiger Harley out for special occasions in game. ThunderPaw never minds... Those two stable spots will never be empty. Pets in game that have meaning to me like those two never have to worry about DPS meters, looks, or what's flavor of the month. No matter what pet you like or find yourself attached to it's totally your call in the end. Find one that clicks or means something to you. Try them all and go with your gut. There's nothing worse than playing a game for fun and being forced to use a pet that you don't have any connection with. It may sound silly that I attach such emotions to my pets, especially in a video game, but I do even by accident sometimes. In the long run I've found it only helps though. If I just can't manage to pull my weight with ThunderPaw, I'll pull out Harley. Just don't ever ask for something else, cause you won't get it from me...
If a cat pet in game is what clicks with you , then a cat you should have... Quit thinking about what's right for dungeons or groups and start thinking about what's right for you...

Re: Stuck :(
No... I am certainly no angel I can assure you. My attitude towards animals is a bit strange I guess for someone from my particular background though. You had to be me during my life growing up to appreciate all the thing's that came to forge that attitude to understand my connection to nature... This is not for the faint of heart... You've been warned...
I'm what most people classify as a Red-Neck... Born in a dusty rural town in the middle of nowhere. Raised on a farm where we had to do all for ourselves. I was lucky enough to have both Grandfather's alive back then and they shared in my up bringing. My father's father operated a Land Surveying business, which meant I was in the woods from the age I could walk marking trails and measuring forests. My mother's father was a farmer, but not what people today think of as farmers. He showed me how to hunt, tend to the myriad of domestic animals and of course planting crops.
My Grandfather on the farm showed me what it meant to respect animals in general. Yes, we had to kill some so our family would survive, but surprisingly it was during those times I learned the most. My Grandfather raised hundreds of animals of all types and hunted hundreds more. I could hit a Turkey in the eye with a 22 at the tender age of 10 with no problem. I was taught to never, ever shot anything I did not intend to eat. Not only because it wasted valuable ammunition, but more that it was completely disrespectful to the animals that helped keep us alive back then. People in today's world have no clue what I'm talking about sadly. On the farm the same dynamic existed. Many times I would catch my Grandfather crying silently as we killed a cow he had raised himself. I love how people today tell me how cruel we were back on the farm. Nothing could be further from the truth. Vegetarians often talk to me and I respect them for their beliefs, but it was all about survival back then. There was one grocery store ten miles away, but that required money, gas and the options there were much the same as what we had on the farm. They'll never understand how much we cared for our animals. We had cats and dogs, but they had jobs to do on the farm. The dogs helped keep wild animals away, the cats kept the barns clear of mice and other pests.
My cousin came to visit once and was torturing one of the yard cats and got a spanking from Granddad. When he protested and asked why he was getting punished my granddad explained to him that the cat he was hurting helped around the farm more than he was. Different times people. Plus he deserved the whipping in my opinion. It just illustrates how much my Granddad influenced me.
My Father's father more-or-less lived in the woods and when the farm work was caught up I was sent to help him. Land Surveying is not for the faint of heart. Especially back then. The Marines would do well to send their boot camp personnel out with us. A day started with my Granddad gathering maps and a compass to rough out a person's property lines. I carried the flagging and bush axe. A four foot long hickory handle with an 18" steel blade and off we'd go. I have cut right-of-way through wilderness that was as wild as it gets. Briar's cutting your arms and legs, swamps that could swallow bulldozers and mountains that took your breath literally. We surveyed a national forest once and stayed in the woods for days.
He taught me how to respect everything living. Tree's, animals, everything. Back then if a property line went through a large healthy tree my Granddad would mark it on both sides indicating the line passed through it, but he would never cut such a tree down. To him that was much to wasteful and the tree would then serve as a living, growing marker for later generations. The older generation could teach us all so much today. He taught me what I could eat out in the woods and what to watch out for. I learned how to move quiet and not leave messes. It bothered him seeing hunter's leave "thing's" behind in the woods. Way back then he didn't mind Hunter's much and left them alone, but in later years when Hunter's came to our community for sport he hated them. More than once we would scare off deer so they wouldn't get any.
One day in 1979 I was with him on a 500 acre survey near a local lake. We move through the woods fairly quiet even in full equipment so we run up on animals fairly often. We had heard a commotion from up ahead for several minutes and my Granddad decided to scout up ahead to see what it was. A few minutes later he came quietly back and only motioned for me to follow him. The woods were thick and it was mid summer. We slipped through all the under brush until we came to a power line right-of-way. It was a stark contrast to the thick woods, but it was what was moving in the clearing that caught our attention. Now, we don't have grizzly's in our part of the country, but we do have black bears. In that clearing ahead was a 300 pound black bear digging like a madman in the dirt. My Granddad said he was after a groundhog. Lol, that's what we call them out here anyway. They look a bit like a fat Prairie Dog. I don't know if the bear was hungry or perhaps the Groundhog had pissed him off, but that bear was tearing the ground apart looking for him. We stood perfectly still in the edge of the woods watching him ripping away at the Earth for several minutes. After a time I tried to get a better look and dropped to a knee. The sound of the dry leaves under my knee was just loud enough to get the bears attention. His head snapped up and I swear he looked right into my eyes. I knew better than to move, but my Granddad decided to get the bears attentions off of me so he just stepped right out into the sunshine. The bear looked at him for a few seconds and then galloped off down the right-of-way. We watched him until his faded into the tall grass half a mile up the power line. My Granddad wasn't scared or mad and as we stood there he only said " ... wasn't he a big one... "
I learned to simply marvel at nature with him out in the deep woods working those long days. Now, my father was much the same, but he was younger and a lot more rash at times. Like all younger men in our area he was brash and willful. I myself went through the phase so I can't point fingers lol. Anyway, one day we were all outside just doing what we always did. Working on a broken fence that day. A huge hawk flew over. The biggest I had ever seen. Most normally only had about a 3 foot wingspan around our neighborhood, but this one was at least 4 feet or more. I thought it was an eagle at first, but it was a red tail. My father disappeared and a few minutes later came back with his rifle. Minutes later we heard two cracks from the rifle and when my dad didn't immediately come back my Granddad pulled me up from the fence work and we walked to where we'd seen him last. He was at the end of our biggest field. The hawk was indeed dead, but he didn't seem excited anymore like he had been. My mom brought the camera out minutes later to take a picture. Dad wouldn't let her take the photo though. I think seeing the hawk crumpled on the ground had a big effect on my father. He walked back to the house and put his rifle back up on the gun rack and I never saw him take it back down unless it was to scare off feral dogs or something later on. I've spoken with him years afterward about it and he's a bit haunted by that day. My dad's a great man, but he truly regrets killing that hawk. To see the hurt in his old green eyes is sobering to me. We all grow up thinking our dad's can do no wrong, and to hear him say he wished he'd never killed that hawk hits home to me. Little thing's like that shape a person more than you'd think...
I grew up in a different time. I'm not ancient by any means, but just 40 years ago the world was so different... When years later I had 4 son's of my own to raise I tried desperately to instill those same values upon them. Respect all life and only kill when absolutely necessary. Today's world is a far different place than the one I matured in. No one truly has to hunt for food or depend on their parents farm anymore. When you have to look an animal directly in it's eyes before eating it, you learn the meaning of respect I think. It's not fun, there's no thrill in it trust me. Several times as a boy I stared down a cold steel barrel at my prey and did not pull the trigger. I don't know why it was just a feeling. Perhaps those times the animal silently spoke to me or I just felt I could do without the meat that particular day.
I realize most people never experience even some of the thing's I have, but when I do talk about animals you should where I'm coming from. I will not tolerate cruelty to animals in any form around me. So even though I may be a red neck, a hick, or whatever I won't sit idle when someone feels the need to inflict pain on something that cannot defend itself. Little Harley is just the latest rescue I have made. Even when the vet told me it would be humane to put her down, something told me she would survive. Yes, she's a little weird, but you would be to if someone had bashed you with a 2x4. I wouldn't take a million dollars for her either. She's my baby girl after all...
So from what you now know, I'm no angel at all, but I do respect my outdoor brethren. Strange how my world has changed in such a short span of time. I go to the grocery store now once a week, I live in a community now where houses are back to back and I play an online game where I'm a Hunter and life moves on. I sometimes sit looking out of my window at the cars racing by and miss those old days long gone. I live in a shinny house with all of civilizations comforts close at hand, but am I better off for it..?
Take care, Roo... Wow... It deleted 3,000 characters... Boo.
