Lost the passion.

Unread post by Qinni »

You all know the feeling.

You pick up a pencil and nothing comes out, I have trades to finish but nothing wont come out. I hate this so much! My last art block lasted almost three years damn't! Ugh.

My mind is going to explode now.

My advice would be to spend the next few days (whenever you have free time, anyway) looking at the things (even if it's not art) that inspire you. That seems to help me get past my own artistic block :) Loosely sketching can help too. Instead of trying to draw something specific, or something that "looks good", just put pencil to paper with zero goals and zero expectations, and see what happens. Good luck :)

Oh and - don't put pressure on yourself!

Yes, I hate this too. Right now I just can't make another signature even when I know there are a few more I have to make. I am basically spending the next few days using up this WoW time card before I try again. You don't HAVE to make those art trades if it really bothers you that much. I'm sure people would rather not get them, then get them knowing that you suffered trying to make them.

Making art because you have to is a difficult thing to get used to. I draw every day, and sometimes I have to draw things I don't like or don't want to do. For me it helps to remember that even if I don't feel as inspired as I wish I did right at this (or any) moment, art is what I love to do, and continuously creating (even if you don't necessarily WANT to) is what helps you to continuously progress. But then, there are times where you really do just need a break to avoid burnout. For me, reading a book helps. I heard traveling helps too, but traveling is one of those things that only people with money get to do haha.
