Loki's Boss Encounters

Unread post by Loki »

I had some ideas for some cool boss encounters, and thought I'd post them here. This is the first one (could fit into the discarded Utgarde raid):

Ulfris <The Packmaster>
A Vykrul wolf packmaster. His room is a large circular pit with a series of gates along the side and one large gate. Bones are scattered around the pit. Here is his encounter:
Phase 1 -
Ulfris begins by attacking the players on the ground. He must be tanked by the main tank. His first main ability this phase is Icequake, where he slams his spear into the ground and a line of icequake appears along the ground, catching a player at the end of it (cannot be avoided). The player is impaled on a Frozen Spike (think Marrowgar), and the trail of ice remains on the ground, slowing and damaging anyone on it. Although the spike only deals a small amount damage to the player inside, DPS must burn this ice spike down, ideally before he uses his second major ability in this phase, Frost Wolf Cry. This ability calls several fairly low health Frost Wolf adds that focus threat on a player ice spiked. Their attacks inflict Frostbitten on the target, increasing frost damage dealt by 10%. This effect stacks. DPS must also try and kill as many of these as possible, although they deal non-frost damage on their own so an off-tank is useful to pick them up (though people on spikes will still top their threat table without serious taunting).
Phase 2 -
When Ulfris reaches 66%, he enters Phase 2. He stomps, stunning the raid, and runs to the large gate, breaking it with his spear. This releases Greatfang, <The Pack Sire>. He mounts Greatfang and the fight resumes. He no longer casts Icequake, though Frost Wolf Call is still cast (they no longer focus threat on spiked players). He gains the abilities Terrible Roar, a short raid-wide fear, and Glacial Bite, where he leaps instantly to a random ranged DPS target and knocks them to the floor, dropping a puddle of ice under their feet and inflicting damage plus several stacks of Frostbitten, before leaping back to the tank. The affected player must run out of the ice patch ASAP, as this will inflict very heavy damage with the new Frostbitten stacks. He also uses Ice Shards, which summons ice crystals near random raid members. These fire frost bolts and must be killed by the DPS.
Phase 3 -
When Ulfris reaches 33%, Greatfang collapses and he enters a berserk rage. His attack speed and damage is increased, and he now casts Frost Wolf Call, Ice Shards, and Icequake together. He also gains a new abilities. One is Frenzied Slash, which applies a serious debuff to the tank that increases damage taken. This means tank switching must occur this phase. He also casts Frozen Howl, which applies a stack of Frostbitten to all players. Here the amount of frost damage taken can skyrocket so players must be careful and watch their stacks of Frostbitten. Eventually he will be dropped to 0% and the encounter will be over.

He drops:
Hide of Greatfang (agility DPS cloak)
Frostforge Spear (agility DPS polearm)
Cuffs of the Pack (leather DPS wrists)
Icewrought Pauldrons (plate tanking shoulders)
Fang of the Frosthowler (caster DPS trinket)
Moonwinter Robes (caster healing chest)
Midwinter's Bite (strength DPS axe)
Snowpower Greaves (shaman mail boots)
Reins of the Frost Worg (rare drop, a white Northrend worg mount, the same skin as Greatfang)

Next up (again could be from defunct Utgarde raid):

Ragnar, Lord of the Pinnacle
Ragnar is a Vykrul king (think Ymiron) riding a great mammoth mount. His fight takes place in a large icy tower room with big windows. He and his mammoth Thundertusk are two seperate mobs that share a health pool.
Phase 1 -
Ragnar begins the fight in the middle of the room. The main tank must taunt his mammoth and keep aggro. Ragnar attacks random players with weakish attacks at range. In this phase, his mammoth casts Trumpeting Stampede, an ability similar to Icehowl in Trial of the Champions. He targets a random player and charges to them, stunning and dealing massive damage to those who did not get out of the way. Unlike Icehowl he does not have an increased damage phase after this. Ragnar casts Skewer, where he throws a long spear with a chain attached at a random player, dealing damage and applying a bleed. This spear remains on the ground for a handful of time, and if a player clicks on it they can pick it up. A player about to be charged can use this spear, dropping a large spike on the ground. If Thundertusk hits this, he becomes stunned and takes damage plus a 100% damage debuff. This spear can also be used on Ragnar, which allows the player to grapple up to his mount platform atop his mammoth. Here, players can DPS Ragnar without fear of attacks from his mammoth, and Ragnar will not Skewer players up here. He also has a debuff called Concentration, increasing damage dealt to him by 50%. However, at intervals beetle-like Mammoth Ticks will spawn and attack players on his back. These are weak enough and can be defeated by DPS, but an offtank on his platform can still be useful to pick them up, and on death they cast Parasitic Blood, applying a nature DoT to anyone caught in it. After 60 seconds up there, Thundertusk will throw the player off his back.
Phase 2 -
At 33%, Phase 2 begins. Thundertusk roars, shaking all players off his back. He still casts Trumpeting Stampede, but this time preceeds it with a daze effect, making it harder to escape, and also casts Tusk Slash, bleeding the target. Ragnar now casts Spear Barrage along with Skewer, which hurls a barrage of smaller, unobtainable spears that damage random players (these can be avoided by moving out), and Urgent Battle Trumpet, fearing a random 3 players (10 man mode). Eventually he will be brought down to 0% and the encounter is over.

He drops:
Frozen Tuskguards (plate tank wrists)
Tundralord Helm (agi mail DPS helm)
Drape of the Pachyderm (strength DPS cloak)
Crystallized Icicle (caster healing trinket)
Mammothbreaker (strength warrior gun)
Frozen Impaler (agi DPS bow)
Furweave Shoulderguards (caster DPS shoulders)
