New expansion, new animals...

Unread post by Monica Gems »

...and the ability to spec a pet as whatever tree we want. The "I don't have room for another tank pet, thus I will live without X pet" thought won't be able to console us much anymore, especially seeing the new tiger, a green Skarr, and the cranes, and we all know there will be new spirit beasts. We were also teased with hydras, so there is a possibility we'll finally get those in MoP, or even the patch leading into it. Is everyone still cool with 25 slots, or is this when we start getting restless for more?

I'm fine with the number of slots we have.

I'm thinking call pet 6 and 30 stable slots might be possible for MoP.
For spirit beasts, I expect a fox and (lo, behold, another cat) a tiger.
Other than that, most likely we will get some new pet families, but it's hard to tell what would it be.

People keep talking about this like it's fact <.< But I haven't seen blizzard saying that they WILL do this yet... Just that it's one option they're looking into, cause they aren't sure what they're doing about pet talents yet (unless anyone has a verified blizzard source saying otherwise).

As to new pet slots.. I say it will depend. If we get more than one or 2 new families, then maybe. But really, I'm still of the mind that as hunters we need to make decisions. Sure, those decisions will get harder as time goes on, but they DO give us the chance for 50 characters. That's a total of 1250 pets that someone could have... if they really wanted, heh.

Well I believe I heard blizzard say this twice. The first time during the talents panel they sounded like they were more unsure, but I remember the second time (it was during some Q&A panel...) they sounded more sure about it. Sure it's still not a confirmation, but I'm confident in Blizzard so I'm allowing myself to get my hopes up. <.<

Still fine with 25. You only need 10-15 max for functional purposes, beyond that it's just a matter of aesthetics, and pets are usually tamed only to sit largely or entirely unused as dust gathering trophies.

Not to say that I don't go above 15 myself; I do, on a few characters, but I do so with the awareness that it's a luxury that costs disk memory, and wouldn't ask for yet more - that sort of thing is best left for cases that benefit all classes equally like void vaults / transmogrification.

And yeah, pet flexi-talents would be awesome (if a few simple and obvious pitfalls can be avoided), but it wouldn't change my view on this.

I hope we get some more actually.. yes I am branching off the group and saying I want more stable slots. A cat is a cat is a cat maybe to some but each of my cats I like. Yes I have uh.. 4 hunters now, and plans for atleast one more but my main has only 4 stable slots left.. and if they revamp current skin models to look more realisitc, some old favourites people liked but couldnt click with due to the way it moved or the boxy look would be wanted again. Plus new families.. it would make it difficult. Plus if its anything like the number of pets we got from cata *cough* (5 new familes, 169 new looks, 48 transformed..) ....

Is it selfish I want more pets on my main hunter who I use a ton and raid with constantly? Maybe. Just maybe. Even if I have one pet I like soo much but have to get rid of for something new, its not the same when I tame the exact one on my other hunters..

Right now, my stable on Kalliope is still really only limited by pets who bring certain buffs and debuffs. I like them well enough, but they were still pets forced on me out of necessity. Kallimon's stable is pretty...stable....but 25 seems to be enough for him too.

I suggested this in another thread, but it was pretty deeply buried.
Kalliope wrote:I'd be in trouble if we were able to give a web equivalent to any of our pets. I don't think I could give up Orpheus after all these years, but Ursa would love to PvP for real...he's done it before!

Buff juggling would just be...I don't even know. Like say as a bear, Ursa could take a bleed debuff, ap debuff, or agi/str buff as his "family" ability. He could only have one, but he'd have options. All that's really required (well, aside from the ability to choose being coded, sigh) is more window dressing, making the options all fit the family's description (much like dash becomes dive for flying pets).

Just throwing that out there. Pets wouldn't have to have free reign, but we'd get to pick what we wanted. I wonder just how much our stables would shrink then...

TBQH I think 25 is enough even if I whine about it some day. That's just an insane amount of pets and if anything people can take it upon themselves to cycle through. Release and Recapture as they cycle around spending time with different pets.

As I've mentioned previously in other threads, I wouldn't mind them boosting the stable slots to 30 if at all because I'm OCD about even numbers, and that sounds like a nice, rounded amount. I personally think that 25 is fine, and 30 would be plenty. Any more than that seems unnecessary to me. I'm not saying I don't have more pets that I could own, because I could probably easily fill up more stable spaces, I just like being forced to pick and choose a bit, it keeps stronger bonds in my mind.

If they give us the option to decide what specc our pets go into out of the 3 trees, id go nuts with joy, i have WAY too many tenacity pets and hardly any ferocity pets i actually use, they mostly sit there cause they look good. If We could change the specc id dump some pets, turn some tenacity into ferocity, and ferocity into tenacity and id get a lot more out of my stables and id probably free it up quite a bit

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about going nuts with 100 slots or anything. The more pets they release, the smaller the stables feel, and for an entire expansion's worth of new stuff, an extra 5 slots would just feel like being able to let our belts out a notch, without letting us get everything under the sun

I totally agree! I'm fine with 25 slots. We should have to make decisions about what pets we tame, keep, and release. I use pretty much all my pets in my stable. I'll use 3-4 during molten front dailies, mining, etc. I've had to release pets I like to tame pets I end up loving.

Sure I've changed my mind a few times but you can always go back and get them. Unless they're like my black devilsaur, Vixen, who was so pissed at being released she hid for an hour when I was looking to get her back. Other than that I've seen them every single time I'm in Un'Goro! I've learned my lesson however and Vixen is here to say! :D

I'd be happy if they bumped us up to 30 or 40 slots. :)

Maybe some of you dont have bonds with all your pets but there are a lot of us that LOVE each and every pet we tame. I cycle through all 25 of my pets and love them to bits.

They said it during their WoW Class Talents panel.
I watched that panel/slideshow. ANd they said "people keep asking about pet talents. And we aren't sure what we're doing yet, but we're looking into letting people choose their pet's spec" (or something along those lines) So I guess people can believe what they like, I just wish they'd stop spreading "facts" as if they're real facts ;) Unless of course someone can provide link-proof. I know it doesn't matter.. people can say what they say.. but it's a pet peeve of mine, so after this post, I'll let the issue drop ;)

So again.. People are talking about it like it's fact, when the best I've heard/seen posted is that they MIGHT, and are "looking into it" ;) Don't get me wrong, I want this as bad as everyone else, I think it's just a bit early to be talking about it like "YAY! In MoP we get to pick our pet's spec!" when even Blizz hasn't confirmed if that's the way it's going to work yet. They might, and that would be awesome. Or... they might decide to do something else, and then everyone will say how evil blizz is for changing their minds when they never said they would in the first place >.>

But then.. I'm the kind of person that NEVER looks at something in a "yay, ___ is going to happen!" before it does... As I'd rather be pleasantly surprised, than end up waiting/hoping/relying on something and then it doesn't happen.

Back on topic.. I do bond with every pet I keep. Doesn't mean I expect Blizz to keep giving us more spots. People can say it's negligible, but each pet DOES take up system resources, like diskspace and all that. There has to be a limit drawn somewhere.

That's not what GC said. He explained it and said something like "We're going to allow hunters to choose which pet tree they want their pet to be in". My fiance watched it with me too.

I'll go back and see if I can quote him word for word. I know he said it was definite though.

EDIT: Here we go. At about 4:08 mark...

"Another question thats gonna come up is 'What about pet talents?' The way we think we're gonna handle that is we're gonna let hunters choose any of the three specs for any pet. So you can have a Ferocity, Tenacity, or Cunning pet. If you wanna have a bear doing DPS or a moth with you in the raid, you can just choose if you want him to do the damage role or the tanking role."

So yeah....it's pretty definite from GC himself. ^^;

Key word: "think" ;) My point is that we shouldn't take anything as "omg yay we're getting it!" yet. Wait at least until the beta is up, because until then, anything is free game for change.
