And the hunt begins.

Unread post by Snowiee »

Hi all, my 1st ever post here so, Heyy :D . anyway I have just got my hunter to level 76, having tamed Arcturis with zero camping I thought i'd try my luck with Loque'Nahak as it is my fav pet EVER. Been trying to get him for the past 3 days with no luck so thought I would ask some questions and get some tips.
1. Does he Despawn? I have heard rumors that he despawns after 10 mins and you have to wait his 6 - 10 hour spawn time again.
2. Should I be flying around to his spawn points or camping a specific one? If so which one?

- Thanks in advanced for any responses. If you have any tips please post ;)

He does not despawn after 10 minutes. So when he shows up, he's here to stay.

I can't sit in one spot very long, nor can I camp a long time either.. so it's easiest for me to fly around to each spawn point. I've found him in almost every spawn location, so I don't know if there is one he favors the most.

Best way I get a rare is to have the addons NPCScan, and Silverdragon. NPCScan will show you the exact spawn locations and when you go over them it will sound an alarm if he is there. Bad thing, if found as someone elses tamed pet, it will cache and not look for it again until you have cleared out the cache. I have gotten into the habit of deleting my cache every day before I get into the game.

Silverdragon for me will find the rare if my mouse rolls over them so I use that more to anounce in Gchat that one is up in case someone in our guild would like to have it.

Good luck with your hunt. Hope you get him soon.

Arcturis was a long camp for me. I'd say your luck ran out with him.

I recommend looking for Loque really early on the morning, when not many players are online, or get a friend or two to fly around northrend and kill the other rares to ''force spawn'' loque (Since northrend has a limit of max five rare spawns up at the same time).
I would also recommend to park yourself in middle of some spawn points and use eagle eye to check each of them, that way I have found King Krush and loque on different times.

I've only seen Loque in the wild once in a my entire stint on WoW (I have Frostbitten because of it; DON'T JUDGE ME!), and seen Arcturis four or five times. So it's all a matter of the person's luck.

I'm definitely in agreement with other people, though: don't hover in one place. He's got a number of spawn points, and it could be a long time before he stops spawning in one of the other four, and does spawn in that fifth (or however many there are). Circle, if you can stomach it. Maybe get a gathering profession or two and use your circling time to make a little gold and some XP. Try at night if you can handle it. The reason I see so many rares is because I'm a Canadian logging in to a European server. When it's 9PM at my place, it's 2-3AM there, and no one is online, giving plenty of chances to find rares. Set an alarm on a weekend, maybe, grab a nap, wake up at midnight, and do some late night circling.

I'm also in agreement of getting SilverDragon and/or NPCScan. I run with both of them myself, as they both have advantages the other doesn't have: SilverDragon will react to a rare that isn't in the database because it picks up on the 'dragon', while NPCScan is customizable and has a map overlay to show you locations.

Loque was a very long camp for me. But it was back in the day during Wrath when the zone was always full of people and of course farmers. And Loque being a target to not just hunters, but people who like achievements or loot, made him hard to find. Nowadays though, at least on my realm... there aren't as many people in the zone. You may have an easier time than me, but my hunt for him lasted 5 months. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get him quickly, cause I don't wish that extensive camp on anyone, it can drive a person nuts!

I would recommend flying around to all the spawn points. Thats what I did. Waiting at just one gives you a slim chance at seeing him at that one spot. And like Kurasu said, maybe you want to try farming something to at least feel like your time isn't just wasted on flying in circles. I didn't make a single coin back when I camped for him, and I kinda wish I did. And having the addon to find rares can be very helpful.

I have to agree with most of the statements here.

Both addons NPCScan and SilverDragon are very useful when hunting down a rare. The alarm (wardrums) from NPCscan may give you quite a shock when you first hear them, but it's enough to get you alert and ready. Make sure you are in Beast Master spec before trying to tame. It happens to the best of us when we try to tame an exotic forgetting to be in beast master. Those few seconds of changing spec are very never wracking.

Loque is an achievement kill for Frostbitten, so don't be surprised to have competition even if Scholozar Basin is last year's expansion. I would also circle for him. I like to pick a starting spot, hang out there for five minuets then circle his spawn locations. Also, if you have and Audio books I suggest listening to them in the background of wow. Just turn off Wow's music and the time will pass swiftly. He won't despawn (unless killed and skinned) so at some point you should come across him.

Best of luck on your hunt, he really is an amazing beast :)

Circling or camping is really up to you. Some say circling is far more effective than camping one spot, but while flying around, there are times where you are not in any spawn area. While circling may lend you to finding him (or any of the other rares) after spawning, I find that you have just as big a chance to miss him at one of his other spawns by circling as you do by staying in one spot. NTM that circling has quite possibly driven me insane to the point of giving up on Loque... I got Krush, and that's enough of the Basin for me quite personally.

I spoke to a GM after hearing about the despawn thing, and the GM said that NO NR rare despawns ever, anymore. This means that they MIGHT have done so before, but they definitely do not now.

I have one more question, do the rares in sholazar basin share a spawn timer?

They do not share a timer, and there is also no cap to NR rares. Everyone here has provided good info ^^ NPCscan overlay also helps a lot to see the exact spawn places so you know you're lookin' in the right place.

Strangely, when I tamed Krush and Aotona, they were nowhere NEAR where the NPCscan overlay said they should be. They were sort of in the general area, but not exactly close to the areas on the map where they were supposed to be. I think both Krush and Aotona will pat outside the overlay range, at least from my experience they have. Loque tends to spawn in her exact areas and just pat around in circles.

I agree with everyone when they say use NPCScan to help find rares. Just make sure that you delete your cashe creature file before you log into the game so it can search for rares you have already seen.

What I did when looking for Loque was to stay in a spot for a little while and then every once in a while fly around all the spawn locations once or twice and then camp back at the spot I choose again for a little while. Then rinse and repeat.

For a tip; while using NPCScan, you can create a shortcut to open WoW that will automatically delete the Cashe creature file every time you launch WoW. If anyone wants the steps on how to set it up, I can give them to you in a PM.
