LFR Woes

Unread post by Ashaine »

((I apologize ahead of time if this topic is posted in an incorrect area of the forums. If so, please feel free to move it to the correct area. Thank you kindly. :) ))

Let me start by saying that as a person, I tend to be extremely easy going. In PUGs, I rarely ever get my ire raised and I try to help those new to instances, etc. instead of ranting, kicking, or leaving. Now, that aside, I decided to queue up for LFR this last weekend. For the most part, it was a very pleasant experience. I enjoyed watching the lore play out and everyone worked very well together. The only problem I had occured when the last boss was downed and the tier shoulder token dropped. I happily rolled need as did many others. My roll was beat out by a few others and another hunter won. Oh well, I thought. Always next time. Then I realized the guy was ALREADY wearing the piece!?! What the... So, I decided to send a nice whisper explaining that it is rude to roll need on something you already possess when others are still seeking the upgrade. The answer I get: 'it's for his survival offspec.' Seriously? I replied back that he is a hunter, the piece he currently has is appropriate for any of his specs. Come to FINALLY find out that the guy was in there with a guildmate and just rolled need because he could to help his friend get the piece he needed. Wow. Now, I wasn't in second place for winning this piece, but honestly, I feel bad for the person who was. I think the loot rules still need some serious tweaking. Things like this are horrible and I still feel like I should have reported it to Blizzard somehow so they are made aware of it. I just wasn't sure where to post my experience. I even took screenshots. :/

Anyone else have any LFR horror stories? If so, post them here.

That whole rolling-for-a-friend thing has to stop. Is there ever a need for someone to need on something they already have? I'm thinking about classes whose specs are a bit more wildly variant than ours -- I know that there are separate tier gear sets for prot, ret and holy paladins, for instance. Are those buyable with the same token?

Yes Morven, you can get as many tokens as you like because they are currency for all the sets. As long as you have purchased something for the last token you got, there's no stopping you.. I asked my friend about this, since I have a bad habit of not looking at stuff before I go "yay upgrade!" and thus might roll on stuff I don't really need (I promise to be better when I start playing again), but he said the same thing I just wrote in the top, you can get as many as you like as long as you don't have the token in your bags. This made me a bit sad, as for me, I might "steal" someones loot... as for friend-rolling, that's just egoistic, but I guess they just think "hey, I will never meet any of the guys again anyway" and don't really care. He said this happens quite a lot aswell. The person is called ninja and then the raid goes on, no further consequences.

I Heard that a number 1 rated raiding guild got busting for this, bringing in more people to need on an item once everyone in the party did, and giving it out to the members who needed. They got an 8 day ban from wow. But yes I've had this happen to me, its hard as hell to get my gear paritally because just for my shoulder tokens I'm going against a Mage, Druid, and Rogue as well.....

The 8 day bans weren't for that rolling for a friend thing. The 8 day bans were handed out because those guilds exploited a bug that circumvented the "only eligible for loot on the first time you kill the boss" part of LFR. Said bans were richly deserved, IMO.

They were basically exploiting an early bug that involved inviting someone who had not looted the bosses so they could get a chance at loot again themselves. And yes, they deserved to be banned for it.

And yes, it drives me froot loops when people roll for friends because ... everyone gets a roll fair and square. This isn't 'gear up your guild'FR or 'lol people who can't queue with a guild'R. Or people who hit need so they can trade items later. Or people who AFK and then come back just to roll on loot. AFK occasionally? Is fine. Throughout the whole thing except for loot? Not so fine. :|

Oh look it's another thread about rolling for friends...

My guild do LFR together every Saturday. We roll on what we need, and even roll for each other if there is competition kicking around.
I don't see anything wrong with it.

It can suck for those who legitimately lose the roll, but in all honesty I've done the same before and don't see anything really wrong with it. If your friend has say the ZA bear mount already and you run the instance with them again and beat the timer, who honestly wouldn't say to them "hey could you roll on it and give it to me if you win? i'll tip :) :) :) " Give you a 40% chance at getting the mount instead of only 20%

(i dont really know if thats relavent anymore in wow, just using an example)

I think it's a jerkish thing to do, personally, but compared to a lot of other things people do in this game it's on the milder side. Still, I'd rather they couldn't.

Wow. I think this is getting a bit derailed. O.o I think what my guildmate was simply trying to do, was give people a place to vent their bad LFR experiences, not a place to flame eachother for having whatever particular opinions. Let's stay on topic folks and please, try to play nice with others. ;)

I have had horrible experiences in LFR. Before the loot rolls were fixed a bit, I had a DK roll need and win on the agility staff (seriously?!?) and one point above me to boot. Was nice to see the whole raid come to my defense because the guy was obviously just needing to sell (he was dual weild specced with two 370+ strength one handers already equipped). I've had people need on gear they already have (when they have no second spec) or weapons they already have equipped. It's a bit of a loot nightmare out there right now and I agree with Ash, the loot rules could still use a bit of fine tuning.

Yeah. That loot is rightfully yours because you had people to queue with you and they didn't. Oh wait...

You don't see anything wrong with it because you're not the one being hosed out of loot because someone's buddy just happened to have a slightly higher roll than you. It wasn't an upgrade for -you-. That's likely why people get upset. Everyone gets -1- fair roll. It shouldn't be 'billy bob gets 10 chances because he has buddies' or 'a guild is using LFR because it's easier than normal mode and screw the puggers'. I think that's the big issue is that people resent being used to farm gear for a guild. I know I don't appreciate 'thanks for the epics, we won 'em all because had a mass of people in the raid. YAY!' Especially on another server. Everyone gets one chance. And that's my explanation anyway. It's pixels and these days I've learned to just ignore the loot logs or I'll get irritated.

Moving off the derail express...

That said, I've seen hunters need on the bow because they had it and 'didn't want scrub hunters to take it'. Ironically, the one who 'didn't want scrub hunters to take it' was the one who 1) died in fires 2) was too busy yelling to type. And yes, he won it. Oh, and people've lost the bow to rogues. Lost the polearm to a DK and a hunter won the +str two hander. The unique equip thing on the bow baffles me. What's that guy going to do with all those bows in his bag?

Or the people who die and AFK through fights then grab loot. I really wish we could kick them earlier... oh well. I also like the story that a hunter wouldn't turn aspect of the pack off during Madness until someone 'gave him HIS token' and he couldn't be kicked.

Yeah, we're 5/8 normal mode at the moment. We're farming it for the teir bonuses. When we run as a guild it's mostly 20 people our of the 25. I still see nothing wrong with it. And I don't appreciate the attitude that's steaming from your post.

But, yes some of the loot rules need to be adjusted. If you're a dps, you can roll on anything dps-wise. Like someone mentioned, a DK can win on the polearm..Make them spec-safe and I'd be happy.

I don't see anything wrong with running LFR as a big guild group.

I do have problems with how some guilds treat everyone else in those circumstances. And this is not new to LFR; I've experienced the same things in 5-mans, and it sucks there too. Needing for stuff that your buddies need, not you. Kicking the non-guildie just before the final boss so a guild member can drop in and have a chance on loot. Stuff like that.

I've lost Gurth' 6 times already.
My weapons are the one thing holding me back from getting into any sort of raiding guild on my new server because of the way warriors get nerfed each patch. [[Gear scaling.]]

Considering this - I am bringing friends in next week to roll for me.
After seeing it go to the lowest DPS twice, Blood DK tanks 3 times and the last time went to somebody who actually pulled their weight...
I'm sick of it.
