I think I have a problem.............

Unread post by Chef »

I love the challenge of a good tame, camping a rare mob (took me weeks to track down Old Cliff Jumper) and all that, but I've now run out of stable room. So when do we think Blizz will do something silly like make extra stable slots part of a micro transaction, lol?

In all seriousness, there have to be folks other than me that run into this problem.

What do you guys do?

Just so you understand where I'm at, I've done all the Molten Front challenges, I've got all the Spirit Beasts ( did we really need 3 spirit cats in different colors? lol) and I want to keep challenging myself, but I love every one of them I worked hard (in most cases) to tame.

Thanks!

I did have this problem. There are two solutions at this time:

1) Reconsider your love for the ones you have and never use. You've done the challenge tame and succeed. Now, decide if that's really a pet you HAVE to keep. Do you need three spirit cats in different colors? Do you need 4 spiders in different colors, etc.

2) Roll another hunter to start storing pets on. As you have noticed here, many of us have more than one hunter. I personally have two and on the second one, it has become a lot easier to just tame the ones I use.

This problem was addressed before and some felt we had enough and we should have to choose and others felt like you do, we need more room to store our trophy tames.

As far as we know or have heard, Blizzard is not considering giving us more stable room.

Welcome to the forums Chef!

While it certainly has been debated many times here on the forums whether Blizzard would ever give us hunters more stable space beyond the current 20 slots (via paid or free), I wouldn't hold my breath or anything on the matter. It's really all just speculation at this point but 25 does seem to be the permanent number from now onto MoP.

In a situation such as yours you have two viable options currently at your disposal, you can:
A) Release just a few of your lesser-used, more common pets to make room for newer, challenging tames, or ...
B) Create and level a new hunter, thus adding an additional 25 spaces for future pets.

Personally, I would go with option B just so you don't have to let go of any of your current pets. Many of us here on Petopia have several hunters for the very same reason - we just can't bear to let go of any of our "preciouses"! If leveling another hunter sounds like the last thing you'd want to do, maybe try out an Alliance hunter if you are used to playing Horde or a Horde if you are used to playing Alliance. The differences in factions, scenery, and quests can help the grind seem a lot less tedious.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

Like others have said, I don't think Blizzard is hurrying any additional stable slots. Never say never, but don't hold your breath. If I recall correctly, Blizz gave us this many in the first place mostly because of the new pet-buff aspect of the hunter pets so that we could store most of the needed buffs in our "pocket" for every situation. For myself, after playing in pre-BC and through BC with only few slots... I'm having a really good time with what we have now.

Nevertheless, I have this same problem from time to time on ALL of my hunters. (Which I have four of!) What I've done recently is just make a tough call on whom I will release to free up more space. I tend to pick out extras from the same family (I had all the spirit beasts at one point, now I only have a handful that I actually use) or just the ones that I use least and whom I don't think I will start to miss afterwards. So far I've released such pets as Ghostcrawler, Gondria and Deth'tilac whom were among the most grueling of tames but I never used 'em and couldn't really like Dethy due to my arachnophobia. I didn't like how transparent Gondria was compared to Ankha and Magria so she was released. Also yeah, I didn't need three see-through spirit cats when I don't really like the see-through effect that much in the first place! Ghostcrawler never left the stables after taming and I hadn't even given him a name.

I think in my case I don't tend to care so much about the "trophy" aspect of the hunter pets. (But if someone else does, that is fine and I don't have a problem with it! Everyone can play the game the way they want to. I sure do.) So it's easier for me to up and release shiny rares that I simply don't use. Sure it's painful if you took hours to get it in the first place, but I feel even worse if I have something sitting forgotten and abandoned in my stables. It might be just me and my weird attachment to my pixel n' polygon pals, but eh! :D

Thanks all for the welcome and the responses!

As far as the new hunter is concerned, I don't know if I would hate doing it again, but I find that I enjoy leveling different classes. On my server, I have 4 85's, one more in the 80's, 2 in the 70's and a couple sub 70 and a bank alt. I've actually maxed out my server and have an 80 something on a friends server as well. All these are different classes except for my first toon, which I am debating getting rid of since I never play him anymore.

I guess my biggest problem is one of letting go. While I may not play all of them, I've got stories behind most of the searches and tames. I'm starting to realize another purge like the one I had to do before I did all the molten front challenges is going to have to happen. It hurts because except for one or two, I think everything I have is a rare or singular skinned beast. Sigh.

It's good to have a group like this to bounce things off of, I've used Petopia for years in my search for new friends to tame, but never knew the forums were here until recently, so thanks!

I personally think more stable slots would be nice! I'm sure even if there is no plans for it, most of us wouldn't mind having more. I also have two 85 hunters, its not that bad leveling more than one. Specifically when you do crazy things on said alt that leaves normal folks gaping. ;)

More stable spots would be nice, but I don't see it happening. I'm very thankful we have as many as we do right now-back when we could only have five, that was just pure torture.

Rolling another hunter is a great deal of fun-I'm on seven right now. I've maxed out two, have three in the 40-60 range, another at 78-ish and the others below 30, but I'm having a lot of fun thinking of different themes and picking which pets which hunter gets.

Also its a great way to explore the other side of the game if you have most of your characters on one faction or the other.

I remember when we had three stable slots. Man, I feel old. But the ones I'd keep if we were cut down to three again? I know two of them. And they're two that I've had since I started my main hunter. It's just a matter of figuring out which pets you actually use, because when it comes down to it, you'll always have your memories of what you went through to tame them.

This pretty much spells out how it is, and how it's likely to remain - 25 slots is extremely generous, it's up to us to prioritize and manage it. :)

I know the feeling of the full stable pain. I had worked and only had 1 spot left until recently when I decided to tame Arcturis when he so nicely spawned. Now I have all my spaces filled again. I've also released others (Sambas for one) and would probably drop Arcturis come Mists if we don't get something done to the stables.

I'd like to see Blizzard do something for BM hunters as the exotics are part of the problem. Make a stable just for the exotics. Put in enough spaces for all the spirit beasts plus 5 more. That would clear that many spaces from your main stable and allow for new tames come MoP. Plus that would force the issue of "which to tame and not tame" since you only have the limited exotic space.

I also have rolled more hunters and have pets picked out that help make it easier if I do end up getting rid of something. I'm a bit of a pet addict since I'm am now looking at 12 hunters over 3 servers and both factions. And I want to add at least 1 panda hunter come MoP. Yes friends, I'm a hunter addict. I admit it.

I wish they didn't call it "abandon"--does this bother anyone else? I prefer to think of it as returning the pet to the wild! I think I've only abandoned a pet once or twice, right after I got it (didn't look like I expected, wrong one, something like that). When I first started playing it was just 3 pets. When it was 5 pets, I ended up making two more hunters. I'm not big into rares, I go for the look I like whether it is rare or not. I also like the matching pet thing, mother and baby raptor, that kind of thing. And my hunters have different preferences, my youngest likes pale pets, Ninsi seems to be a dog person, etc. She finally made 85 (yeah I'm a casual player, and have toons of all classes). I was looking through the pets here and decided I want the green shale spider, didn't realize it was only a rare, and had the baby, too, lol--but now that I know, I'm going to try to get both. Ninsi has been working on Deepholm and just started the dailies.

I feel the same way. I'd like to see "abandon" replaced with "release".

To answer the OP, one way I manage my stables is by only allowing myself one member per pet family per hunter. (Yes, like many here, I have multiple hunters!) I'm fond of both Ghostcrawler and Loque, so just recently released Loque after taming Ghostcrawler for the second time.

After all, if you enjoy the challenge of rares, isn't it more fun to release them so you have the chance of catching them again later?

"Release" makes it sound like you'd been keeping it against its will though...

I don't like letting go of a rare, but will if I have no other choice. I spent too much time trying to be lucky enough to be online when the rare spawned to just let it go. My more common pets would be easier to find again so would be my first ones to go if I had the choice.

I've been lucky enough to stumble across loque and arcturis for example. Yet something like skoll or jadefang took way too much effort to get rid of easily. That's why I still wish they would do something like I mentioned before. I'm working on a post for the forums to see if it might be considered but am afraid of all the trolls that always lurk there.

How about release from service? Like a military discharge.. Actually, whatever word(s) they use, they could soften it with the confirmation text. "Does your pet wish to return to the wild? You will not be able to call this pet again."

I hate to say it, but I think that they gave us plenty of slots. Yes, Galaxy's stable is 100% full. Yes, I've had to release some pets that made me cry in the process b/c of something just more epic coming along.

It sucks. That's why Rosita was born, tbh.

What about if void storage was opened to allow storage of lesser used, but still so so so so epic tames? I have ALL the spirit beasts, but I'd probably only keep Skoll, Loque, and Banny in my easy to access stable. Just a thought. RP wise this makes no sense, but could be a decent solution

Right, just destroy your pet with your awesome melee skills. Makes perfect sense. XD
