is it legal/possible to buy a name?

Ive been pondering for some time to change realms. Just one tiny problem... i would not be able to get the names i want for my charecters.

Ages ago (maybe 4 years?) i had another wow account. BUt back then i ragequit and threw out the game, the cd´s and all. That account holds the names of my charcters on the server i want to move too..

so u think it could be possible to purchase/redeem those names?.

Lets say that the account is long gone (no idea what the pW or the id is.. forgot that) and someone else has those names. Would it be legal to buy another charecters name?

Answering that would involve crawling through the ToS (more effort then I care to spend), but I would be surprised if it wasn't against it. Generally all aspects of a online game belong to the company that owns it (we don't own our characters, they allow us to use them in return for money). Paying real money for digital content would most likely brush against the same rules that are there to make cash for gold illegal.

That said you could send a letter via the post box to your old name and see if you get an answer.

ive tried the letter thing and no luck and they dont exist on armory cause they havent logged on in ages

You can put a ticket in with a GM to free a name. Sometimes, if the account is very old and the characters are low enough, they will free up the name for you.

Ticket in now.. Cross fingers for that i might succed. If it does, then i stay on DMF. My old names > a better server for sure.

Just wish DMF was a better realm.

The fun old dungeon runs ive been on in DMF can be counted on one hand.

The rest of the runs has been ninjalooting/immature runs where ive ended up ignoring half of the raids >< - which reminds me ... i need a bigger ignore list.

There is offcause no garantie that I have luck on another server... but i just need to meet other ppl - get some fresh air. But the 320 euro isto expensive for us - so prolly no new server unless i wish to starve for a couple of months.. and tbh not sure if i want to delete some of my char...

Ive been very ambivalent about the whole namechanging thingie... Im kinda used to Tårnfalk being... well Tårnfalk, so maybe it was a good thing that the ticket did´t go in - still very ARGH WHAT SHOULD I DO about the whole situation :/

if the char is really old blizz should delete it upon request of someone o.O they might not right now cause of the new promotion going on with the Scroll of Ressurection but there was a conversation about blizz deleting ancient characters upon other players requests since the account the character is on hasnt been active in years. Why they wont do it now, especially cause you own the account which raises even more questions, is because they are hoping accounts like that one you have all your names on will pay to return to the game, even if it was only for that one month period.

Well she can claim its her account however the GMs alone cant prove it on word alone.

but if she knows the account name and what not, she can bind it to her battlenet, thats what i did on my old account (was playing a different one during that time) that sat inactive for about 2 years till battlenet was implimented

Out of curiosity, have you tried making a lv 1 toon on that server and tried to use the name to see if its not available?

nope forgot the account name else i would revive the account and delete the char .... cheaper then moving servers.. But thing is,, when i ragequite i really really ragequit. I uninstealled the game, i jumped on the cd´s and threw them out... not really mature i know... but i got a bit of a temper.

When i returned to wow a year later ive forgotten all about the old account -cept a few details about the guild i was in, the realms i played on etc.. but as stated its my words againts a GM

and using accents i do that on Anadrá and Tía alrdy and tbh to me its not a solotion for Tivoli (Tårnfalk´s original name) - and the uce of accent might be prohibited in the future? who knows hehe. But tbh to me its not the same name with an accent...

Though i might keep Tårnfalk´s name due to the fact that ive bonded with that silly transmorg addicit of a huntress - even reserved her name on the server which i might move to if i win the lottery.

send a scroll of res to a character on your old account. if nothing else that will send you an email to whatever address that account used.

from there, use the 'i forgot my account name/password' recovery to obtain your login details.

link that account to your battlenet.

log into that account now that you have some trial time active on it thanks to the scroll of res, delete required characters.

switch over to current account, transfer/create desired toons.

THanks all for the input but i think i have to get used to Anadrá with the accent over the a at the end ... prolly only thing i would change cause the silly Tårnfalk´s name got stuck in my head. I just hope the dont ban the use of accent of wird letters on the eu realms too.. but if that happens my head also have a backup plan for that

Well, how many times could you have changed email since the last time you used that wow account? If you still have a bunch of email addresses from years ago, send a scroll anyway and just check all your various account to see if any of them show something up. no harm in tryin
