Planning first attempt at Tanking in LFR

Unread post by Royi »

On my pally next reset this week. Wish me luck :)

Tonight I'm going to try and tank a few HOT's or Random heroics just to try and get the jist of it again, I was a palatank back in WOTLK, but mechanics have changed quite a bit. I don't think I can just cast Consecration and auto-attack anymore (basically you could get away with that back then :) )

I fully expect a lot of GTFU NOOB and KICK TANK ~ SUX etc.

Heres my prof: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/l ... s/advanced

I have a few DPS pieces but I think if they're 397 dps it'll be "good enough" just for LFR.

Any advice for a new tank on the bosses in Dragon Soul or any other tips? I've never attempted tanking them.

I'll be intereted in seeing what advice you get because my feral druid has been tanking the End Time heroics and is just about maxxed out in gear from that tier. (Need two more runs after Tuesday's reset to get the 397 idol and I'm done.)

WOW Insider had a series of 'Explain this boss in five seconds' guides when 4.3 dropped. Here are links to the Dragon Soul guides; hopefully others can chip in with more details. Good luck!

Thanks for posting those short guides. I like something just short and to the point.

I also found this one, a bit more indepth but I think useful:

Thanks for that link, Royi--I thought the WoW Insider guides didn't go into quite enough detail, especially about which bosses could be single-tanked and which needed multiple tanks, and when the tank swaps needed to happen. That other guide I think had better tank info.

One thing I heard the last time I was in LFR (which has been a while) is that on Zon'ozz (the ping-pong boss) the ball doesn't need to be actively bounced--it'll just bop from one side of the pool to the other until it reaches 10 stacks, and then the black phase happens automatically. I'm not really sure if that's standard procedure or not these days, though.

It might also be a good idea to ask your raid if you're still unsure, the majority of people prefer that to a tank who says nothing and wipes the group.

Good luck! :D (Only fight I've really had issues with bad tanks on is ultraxion...if you can master that you'll be fine. xD)
