Wal-Mart Policies
It's unbelievable what people can't buy anymore. I have a Biology project due on Friday that we have to build a model garden and put fake plants and stuff in it.
Well my friend and I went to Wal-Mart to get some supplies for the project, such as felt, paint, and glue. The glue we found was a special "felt glue" so we could use it to attach stuff to the felt that we were going to lay on cardboard for a base.
So we get up to the checkout and decide to do the self check-out because it's always faster when you don't have much stuff. I scan the glue over the scanner and it comes up saying "Approval Needed", so this lady comes up and asks for ID, I politely say "For what?" and she tells us that you need to be 17 to buy the glue. Seriously? What has this world come to when you can't go to the store and by glue for a Biology Project...

My husband and I are in line yesterday and the people in front of us were letting their kid try to hit on the cashier (this kid was barefoot). As for Wal-Mart, I used to work for them, and they are horrible to their employee's, and lately even to their customers. I don't know about the other parts of the world, but here in NY, they've remodeled Wally world. It's now very stark, uninviting, and feel's more like a ware house then anything else. I think at this point, the corporation feel's like they've got their hooks in people, and that they are going to shop there regardless of the feel of the stores. Just a thought, though.

That's nothing. This story I found has been floating around for years and it's just epic..The best prank I've heard of yet.Dulanie wrote:I worked at walmart for 7 years, and in my experience that company has gone straight downhill since Sam Walton died, and has gotten even worse since his wife Helen died. There is a very good reason why they are always involved in several class action law suits. I dislike the company so much, and what it has become that I won't even step foot in one ever again. I know it's bad, but I laughed so hard when I read about the P.A. announcement someone made as a "joke" at a walmart asking all black people to leave the store. I laughed because with what Walmart has become they deserve that kind of publicity.

As the department reached critical capacity, I pulled out my stolen remotes for the demo units and turned on all three. Immediately, the top row of televisions, at full volume, flipped to images from the DirecTV system that was locked on hard-core pornography; the middle tier of televisions began showing images from Where the Boys Aren't, Vol. 12--Sorority Sleepover, and the bottom row of televisions was playing German scheiße films.

Hearing the stories of former workers doesn't surprise me one bit. A gal I new quit after 6 months because of how bad they treated her.

They are alot better in Canada. Any wal mart I've been in here has been very clean even in the lower income area's of the city.zedxrgal wrote:I absolutely cannot stand Wally world and refuse to shop there. I am in CA and so the 'ghetto' people in there, the way they act, talk and dress is sickening. And I really cannot believe it's tolerated. Many many have been opened up in the really nice areas and within a few weeks they're trashed, dirty and filled with 'ghetto' people to the point that their target clients won't shop there.

The Walmart in my town is pretty decent. Cluttered, but clean, and the employees are nice. The only problem with it is people who try to camp-out in the parking lot...

It's true, they are very clean and neat in Canada. They look like any other store like that - I actually find them more open and nice to browse than Zellers. That being said, I haven't been to Walmart in a good while. I'll go there if I really don't have other options (i.e. am too broke to go elsewhere) but...AdamSavage wrote:They are alot better in Canada. Not to mention their suppliers. The Walmart-Rubbermaid saga is nasty. This article has some details about it.Palladiamorsdeus wrote:they are horrible to their employee's, and lately even to their customers.
This article gives more details:History has shown that suppliers suffer if they run afoul of Wal-Mart. Rubbermaid raised the prices it charged Wal-Mart in the mid-1990s because of an 80% jump in the cost of a key ingredient in its plastic containers. The retailer responded by giving more shelf space to lower-priced competitors, helping drive Rubbermaid into a 1999 merger with rival Newell, says John Mariotti, a former Rubbermaid executive. "Rubbermaid earned Wal-Mart's wrath by not giving it the best deal," he says.
Newell Rubbermaid is the largest producer of consumer rubber products in the United States, and Wal-Mart sells by far the largest volume of Rubbermaid products of any retail store. In January 2001, Joseph Galli was appointed the new chief executive officer of Rubbermaid, and he and his staff had an intensive series of meetings with Wal-Mart management on what products Rubbermaid should bring on line, including Wal-Mart's not-so-subtle suggestions about the price of the products. Since January 2001, Rubbermaid has shut down 69 out of its 400 facilities, and fired 11,000 workers.
