Amphibians and the lack thereof

Unread post by Bristlenose »

I kept meaning to post a thread on "where are the tamable frogs?" but kept forgetting. It has since expanded into, "Where are the amphibians?" now that I've thought to post. We've got amphibious animals like turtles and crocolisks but not true amphibians like frogs, toads, salamanders, caecilians (think snake or worm only not) and newts. It was something I realized the other day. We've got non-companion pet frogs and toads but not hunter pets.

When you look at the potential here for a new family, it's quite surprising we're missing out. Special attacks could include some kind of poison, using their tongue to hit with or biting/swallowing like the gulper fish do in Vash'jir. Salamanders and newts could use a tail swing attack too. And there's always room for a hypno-toad ability to stun targets. That doesn't include the possiblity for all the variety of colors and looks they could use.

I did a quick search in here but there was surprisingly little discussion on this.

It would be great to have giant frog and toad beasts in-game. Wetland zones are some of my favorite places.

They weren't calling them amphibians, just using the adjective amphibious in nature, meaning that they use both land and water.

I've been advocating for the introduction of frogs and toads as hunter pets for a long time. My preferences in particular, lean toward the colorful variety we find living in the Amazon rainforest.

For reference sake, I pulled up some of my posts concerning the topic which include photos and an idea I had for their "family ability" ...

So long as we continue to show an interest for such things, Blizzard may consider it for future game development.

Used to have one of these little guys at home. (Red Belly Newt)
Image
He shared a tank with some noisy Fire Belly Toads (I don't think these should be called toads though, they have smooth skin and can't spend too much time out of water, like toads can.)

It's nice to see so much support so quickly. Maybe I should hop over to the official forums and bring it up there. It probably is too late to add them into Mists but maybe for the next expansion or possibly content patch.

I always wanted to tame a giant, big toad/frog, they would make an awesome addition to azerothian swamps.

Ooh, giant newts would be great. Perhaps they could make salamanders as mythical beasts, with the power to control fire? They could be found in Searing Gorge and Firelands (just as neutral creatures, of course: not like the hellhounds that actively fight against Hyjal defenders)
Damage is an approximate for level 85

Image
Flame Blast [Exotic Ability] The salamander spits out a huge blast of fire, dealing 3000 damage per second for 5 seconds, and increasing physical damage done by 5%. (30 sec cooldown)

Image
Engulfing Flames The salamander's body erupts in flame, shooting out fire in every direction. Nearby targets are set on fire, dealing 5000 damage and then 1000 per second for 5 seconds, while being panicked. (2 minute cooldown)

Similar to Razorgore's Conflagration
