Mantis wont come down for dinner

So this was previously a mantis water question, so not wanting to clog the forum I recycled it.

Anyway so my mantis now won't come down off the top screen and hunt the crickets and gut worms I have for his food. How do I ummm "train" him to come down and hunt

Im thinking mist would be the best way to go, unless u have a really shallow pool it can stand in.

It will vary by species, but in general you'll want to mist them and keep a small dish of water (make sure they can't drown in it). I'd look up caresheets online pertaining to its type and find out the humidity requirement.

Ok now the little buttmunch is hanging on the lid, not on the ground or plants. I guess thats normal?

Oh yeah. My new mantis Klaxxi is a lid addict. They like to be up high and... upside down.


I get a little frustrated with him/her (too young to tell the gender yet) because I want to get some better pictures! But he/she's young so he/she's a little more active and I don't want to risk him/her getting hurt or lost.

I use to have 2 mantis' ...one ate the other, and then hubby thought it was a good idea to put a black ground beetle in the tank...which ate the other mantis...
However, before they...got eaten, I had some moss in the tank, and dirt with some rocks, sticks, and I just misted everything down. My mantis' liked to hang upside down on the lid to.

If you have a big one though, I'd think a little bottle cap of water would work, or a wet sponge. Ours were only about an inch long (just babies).

Well...I assume like all creatures, when they are hungry enough, they will eat. In the mantis' case...come off the lid and get it's food. Do you have stuff in the tank, twigs or such that it can perch on? I am not sure the size of your tank/mantis, but I did find (for the time we had ours) was that if the twigs/stuff in the tank didn't reach the lid, he didn't bother climbing up the glass, and just perched on the branches after hunting.
