Questions about Savage
I saw Savage at what must have been the end of the route and before I could tame he vanished. What happens then? Do they go back to the beginning? Does the animal stick around? I got so excited to actually see him that I couldn't get myself situated in time for the tame (sad I know
).

Re: Questions about Savage
If he completely vanished on you, that means he entered a phased area. I think I remember that happening to me when I found him as well. I was rather upset, but I eventually picked his trail back up and got him.
If Savage comes to the end of his patrol or back to the start he will simply stop, turn around, and head back the other way on the same path he came. All of the new "stealthed" rares will follow this pattern of patrolling from point A to point B. Their paths can be rather windy. (Bombyx in 5.1 will be different from these, though.) They might go through phased areas at times making them seem to vanish before your eyes.

Re: Questions about Savage
Sounds like he walked out of your flare to me. Just need to reflare and tame.

Re: Questions about Savage
Yep, the flare mechanic can be frustrating. One sure way to grab and hold his attention is to stand in the flare so he aggros you. Otherwise, be ready to target and mark as soon as he enters the flare. In any case, Savage shouldn't be affected by phasing -- I and others have tamed him by getting to his pathing areas before doing any of the Jade Forest quests.

Odd thing is...sometimes they wont aggro! XD Pat, Portent, and Stompy both walked away as I shot/tamed them. They were like "Junrei pls..."Agravaine wrote:Yep, the flare mechanic can be frustrating. Re: Questions about Savage
Actually, the last I heard, none of them were aggroing automatically in flares.Junrei wrote:Odd thing is...sometimes they wont aggro! Re: Questions about Savage
I've never had any of them aggro to Flare. I accidently shot a Portent that I flared out once while trying to turn my camera and he STILL didn't aggro me for shooting him, lol. They're rather non-aggressive despite being red named. Tame? Pft, please. They keep on walking.Agravaine wrote:Yep, the flare mechanic can be frustrating. As for Savage phasing, I'm not sure what happened for me then. I had started questing but I wasn't up in that area yet quest wise. I decided to go up and check for him and he most definitely vanished on me. I made the mistake of trying to Tame him before he walked out of Flare, had to re-Flare him and was about to put my Hunter's Mark on him when he vanished mid-Flare. His tracks were also gone and I thought maybe they might have been under ground, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I just went further up along and had to wait and finally I saw a track pop up again. I figured that it was a slight phase area he walked through, as the ground was completely void of tracks between the two areas.

Re: Questions about Savage
No no. Not flares. They don't aggro with flares. But when I used tame or accidentally shot them, they just turned their nose at me and walked away!Kalliope wrote:Actually, the last I heard, none of them were aggroing automatically in flares.Junrei wrote:Odd thing is...sometimes they wont aggro! Re: Questions about Savage
I thought you had to be in the flare radius with them for them to aggro you? I actually saw that happen with a Stompy I rehomed a couple of days ago. Maybe now you have to be in aggro range when you flare. Plus, don't forget if they're not aggroed, they keep walking while you tame, but the tame works all the same.

Re: Questions about Savage
It's not a phasing issue as in if you've never done quest in that area you can't see him, he does phase out in certain area's on his path, which I think is a bug or something. You can pick him back up when he's out of the zone but until then you can't see his foot prints. That is unless Blizz fixed it.Agravaine wrote:Yep, the flare mechanic can be frustrating. I've tamed him without seeing his footprints both on Beta and live.Sei wrote:It's not a phasing issue as in if you've never done quest in that area you can't see him, he does phase out in certain area's on his path, which I think is a bug or something. Re: Questions about Savage
This happened to me yesterday with Bombyx - standing in flair, shot, tamed, and he was just munchin on the root of the tree. LOLJunrei wrote: Odd thing is...sometimes they wont aggro! XD Pat, Portent, and Stompy both walked away as I shot/tamed them. They were like "Junrei pls..."

Re: Questions about Savage
Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that issue. I shot him to aggro after marking him and he was just like 'lol, I'm not even mad'. He just kept trundlin' on.Araela wrote:This happened to me yesterday with Bombyx - standing in flair, shot, tamed, and he was just munchin on the root of the tree. Re: Questions about Savage
Bombyx did that to me. He just sat there like he didn't care. XD
