Cataclysm Professions Preview

Unread post by Mania »

Blizzard posted a preview of some profession information for Cataclysm today. This includes the scintillatingly exciting news that:
  • Perks will continue to exist across all professions, and will upgraded appropriately.
  • [...]
  • Obsidian is the new common mineral found when mining in Cataclysm, and can contain gems, Volatile Fire, and Volatile Shadow.
  • [...]
  • Three new bandages! That's right: THREE!
  • [...]
  • New fishing dailies.
(The [...] indicate that I have skipped lots of other bits in between these.)

Yes, I've pulled out the most boring of gimmes. No, I'm not going to go into my personal conspiracy theories about this preview.

(Sorry for the tone. Bad morning all around.)

I'm quite excited for:

• Engineering will be able to make powerful bows, crossbows, and guns.

We'll FINALLY have crafted bows to use at max level until we get better, this pleases me.

Engineering bows/crossbows will be fun, hehe.

THREE BANDAGES?! NO. WAY.

I love how they emphasized that like it's some REALLY CRAAAAAAAZY idea.

  • "Dense Embersilk Bandage" Heals for 34,800 over 8 seconds. Requires 3 Embersilk to create.
This sounds interesting. 35K for a bandage. Right now, the biggest bandage heals about 1:5 of your health. They were right when they said they were gonna' give us lots of health...

That's what, seven times what our biggest bandage is now? That's insane.

It's not made out of cloth, but down comforters.

Specifically they say "Oh, and powerful mechanical bows and crossbows in addition to guns." which sounds to me like they will be Engineer-only items (hence the inclusion of the term "mechanical"). I've been pondering dropping Leatherworking for Engineering too, this only adds some fuel to that fire of debate.

I did that yesterday.

Hopefully, we'll also get to make weapons that are competitive with raiddrops and such, since the only real way to get guns is trough engineering.

Yeah, I'd like some more info first before making any costly profession changes. So far, Engineering doesn't exactly have a precedent for crafting raid-level weaponry so I'm hesitant to make any rash decisions. The goggles in TBC seem more an anomaly here, so I'm not counting those as a sign of things to potentially come in Cataclysm.

Yes yes, very excited about crafting bows...now I just hope you don't need to be exaulted with some final end-game group that only exists deep in the bowels of Deathwing's Lair to get the plans.
