Rares Despawn Timers

I have been curious if it is true that rares will despawn after a fixed amount of time or if they remain up until tamed or killed? I have read that Loque'nahak has one, but has anyone actually seen a rare suddenly despawn, other than due to CRZ? If so is there a certain amount of time they are allowed to stay up before they vanish?

I've heard that theory, but I myself have not witnessed or heard of any concrete information to verify it. I personally don't think they despawn, but perhaps someone else knows more on the matter.

I've only heard that TLPD does after an unknown amount of time. Everyone else stays up, to my knowledge.

I think it's mostly a rumor that some people are spreading to thin out the camping competition.

TLPD used to do that back in Wrath but that's no longer the case from what I've heard but then again...is he ever up long enough to tell anymore? XD

But no, no rare despawns.

I remember TLPD and Vyragosa phasing out around a place, I think it was Garm or something like that? I guess it might have made it look like they despawned.

Ponderance on TLPDResource.com claims that a blue post confirms TLPD despawns after being up and unattacked for a certain period. Now I tried to find this blue post without success, but Ponderance is pretty reliable. He can be temperamental, but he keeps his facts straight and up-to-date.

And after camping TLPD three times on three toons, I certainly don't want to try to verify the despawn myself.

Yeah Pondy's pretty reliable. I've spoke to him ingame and he's usually polite but he's done some extensive research though I believe he did say the despawning doesn't happen anymore since the restrictions in wrath for rares to be up was lifted.

There was never a restriction on rares, neither in Northrend nor anywhere else, and I highly doubt there was a 'despawning period' on TLPD, either. Being as it's snapped up as fast as it is, it'd really be impossible to tell. For me, I don't think it's 'to think out camping' so much as it goes in the same way that most legends go: it was told from person to person until it trickled down as truth. But if you ask everyone, they will tell you they heard it 'from a friend of a friend' at *shortest*.

TL;DR: All evidence says it's a legend. The only 'despawning' is CRZ.

Most likely, Kurasu. I only mentioned TLPD because I vaguely recalled seeing a blue post someplace, but I don't have a source offhand and it may have been wrong to begin with, blue or not. At any rate, it's highly unlikely that there are any exceptions anymore, if there even were in the first place.

There aren't now, no. I've seen rares up for hours.
