Pet Personalities!

Unread post by Equeon »

Hello there fellow hunters, I decided to start this thread for several reasons.

1. To develop the personalities and backstories of some of my pets further, that I feel like I need to create in order to bond with them better. I figured instead of jumbling stuff up in my brain, I could write it down somewhere - but where others could read it if they wish, as well!
2. To read about others' lore/RP/backstories about their pets, without having to go through 500 threads or browse through each [Species] Appreciation Thread trying to find someone's description about one of their favorites.
3. To allow others, who may not "care" as much about their pets (but want to) to be able to develop them beyond being tools or weapons in the form of NPCs. Tamed a pet just for its ability or because your raid forced you? Have you caught all the spirit beasts but then only feel like they're trophies? Maybe posting here will prevent unnecessary abandonment!

Basically, just post a backstory of up to your top 10 favorite pets. This is usually how your character came upon the pet, how they befriended it, how the pet acts towards your character and others. It doesn't have to be roleplay, it can just be "{x} saved my raid one time when he/she tanked {Y}, and I've enjoyed that pet ever since."

Rules:
1. It can be as long as you want. Mine will probably be awfully detailed, and I really wish this forum had spoiler tags so I could keep this post relatively short and neat.
2. You can have up to 10 pets, but I'm probably the only one that will do that.
3. If you want to include pictures, which are nice and let us see you and your pet's accomplishments, provide them in the form of a link.

So, I will start! In no particular order...

1. Krilte, the Silithid ColossusImage

This bug is my "main pet." He is almost always at my hunter Ederrano's side.

I found Krilte when he was a hatchling colossus, although he was nearly half as big as me at the time. Druids of the Cenarion Circle had been keeping a watchful eye on growing silithid colonies, which have begun to extend into the Thousand Needles after the flood. Despite the lack of C'thun and the Qiraj, the silithids have continued to thrive, only being kept in check by the druids and the occasional band of adventurers. A notice in Cenarion Hold was offering a hefty reward for destroying any colossi growing in the nearby hives.
To make a long story short, I set out to do this very task and found Krilte in the hatching chamber of a hive. The colossi are naturally intelligent (comparable to that of apes and raptors, if not higher), possessing an intellect required in order to direct hundreds of lesser workers and drones, and I had never heard of a silithid being tamed. I snatched the creature and, instead of turning him in or slaying him, decided to try and take him back to my current home in Dalaran. He was quite aggressive at first, but over the course of a few weeks in a stable master's pen, being fed by me three times a day, the colossus became mellower and even friendly to me. Silithids do not "imprint" like many reptiles or birds, but I think rather he viewed himself as a parent or protector figure to me. Today, Krilte is one of my most loyal protectors, showing equal ferocity and tenacity when facing armies of the Horde or dungeon-lurking monsters. Although Krilte is a "gentle giant" to my allies, he takes great pleasure in feasting upon any grunts foolish enough to attack me while he is at my side.

2. Frió, the Leopard Spirit Image

My main raiding and dungeon pet, he has saved my life, and my party members' lives, more times than I can count.

This story is not so different from others who have befriended elusive spirit cats. While roaming the jungles of the Sholazar Basin, I sensed the presence of a creature from another realm. Traces of spirit dust, tracks that faded away when you got too close... something otherworldly stalked these forests. My friends and allies, the Oracles, spoke of an ancient leopard, one of the most powerful known, that had been slain long ago, but refused to pass on completely. I was intrigued, and spent many days in the sweltering heat of the deep jungle, camped beneath the roots of trees or waiting in the canopy. Eventually, the beast revealed himself to me, in the early hours of the day. I was shocked at the spirit's beauty, and observed him for several minutes before going closer. I could not understand completely, but something about the ghostly cat, and the way it moved, spoke of a loss, perhaps of a mate. The spirit beast was in pain, mourning: as it had been for hundreds of years. I watched it disappear into the undergrowth, and returned to the Oracles' village. The next morning, I woke up to see my bag had been rustled through, with most of my food stolen. I suspected a tickbird or perhaps a serpent, but one Gorloc shaman told me that she had seen the beast of legend in the night. I decided to stay in the village for a few more days, and each time the spirit beast visited me. The Oracles advised me to leave an offering for the leopard, and I did so. So just like that, the leopard spirit began following me around, permanently: never losing his mischievous side. He had finally found a companion after all that time alone: it's a touching story, really. Today we always hunt together, and Frió's fierce and energetic personality, along with his inability to die makes him very valuable. The beast has "sacrificed" himself dozens of times in order to prevent my death: but he just fades back into this world after a couple minutes, and glares at me haughtily for a few more afterwards.

3. Stegra, the Warp Stalker Image

A sturdy and dependable pet. I use her mainly for quests, dailies, and soloing dungeons. She's an excellent fighter and an even better tank.

While helping out the locals in Thousand Needles one day, I noticed the presence of a relatively new Twilight's Hammer Camp on the distant mountains. I'd heard the stories of their cultists coming down and killing night elves or tauren, and rumors of a major attack were spreading throughout New Thalanaar. I decided to take matters into my own hands and avoid the slaughter of any more of my allies or capture of any more wild wyverns. I trekked into the ridges and kept to the shadows, dispatching the occasional cultist or guard who might have spotted me. The presence of an evil twilight force was almost unbearable. My goal at the time was to assassinate the leaders of the camp closest to Feralas, and hope any elementals the cult had summoned would turn against them. However, upon arriving at the camp, I noticed that some of my work had been done for me. At least four members of the Twilight's Hammer lay slain outside their tents, with vicious gashes through their chests and necks. Almost instantly, I heard a shout and silently hurried to its source: a few hundred meters away, several cultists had cornered a foot-long blue lizard. One burly human scowled and kicked the lizard with the toe of his boot, snickering at its yelp of alarm. The next moment, a bright flash appeared and the man's head was ripped clean off. A huge warpstalker that had suddenly appeared pounced on another cultist, while instinctively setting itself in front of what must have its child. The beast swung its spiked tail, impaling an orc who was sneaking up behind her. The group must have disturbed her nest, I figured. By then, what remained of the immediate camp was approaching. We killed the soldiers without much trouble, with the warpstalker fighting with what could only be described as a maternal savagery. She located the final hatchling of her misplaced brood, eight in all, and then eyed me warily. I knew that the rest of the Twilight Bulwark camp would arrive soon, and persuaded the lizards to follow me to a safer area by tossing pieces of meat in front of me as I walked backwards. The hatchlings trusted me, and the mother soon followed suit. Over the period of a few hours, I would lead the warpstalkers closer and closer to New Thalanaar, where they were tended to by druids, and kept in the shelter of a tower. The family stayed there for a week as I and other adventurers continued to sabotage the twilight camps, returning at night to rest. Eventually, the creatures couldn't leave my side... and there they have remained. Stegra, as I now call her, doesn't pay as much attention to her babies anymore; but she still fights with the same determination and strength as she did that night.

I think the idea is great! i find it neat to read stories of people and their pets, how they bonded and such. I will have to post mine when I am not busy. I think your stories are great, love how you added screenies at the end. Cant wait to read the others.
