Looking for any free to play mmorpg

First no I'm not replacing WoW I just want to expand my gaming library a bit more. Some things I'm looking in a game? It can be a WoW clone or not, I really don't care about that. I love being able to customize the hell out of my character (as much as the game lets me) and I want or need some sort of ranged class. Love being able to have a companion (like hunters) and mounts. I love mounts. (I like flying too) Now here is where it gets a little complicated...know I know free to play games have some sort of system to use real money because they need donations and whatnot but what I don't like is that some of them is a pay to win kinda thing. I don't want to be playing an mmo where I need to fork out money to be lvl cap or get goodies or just to have fun. No fancy graphics. I don't care if its pretty or not but I enjoy games with primitive graphics. Lastly it can be a in browser game or download, wont make a difference to me.

One more thing I'd like to note is that when I do join free to play games, it feels like I'm already left behind due to everyone else being "done" and just using new players. I want to try and stay away from that. Hope some of you can help me on this quest of finding a diamond in the rough. C:

Although there is an initial purchase fee, Guild Wars 2 is very wow like. Players of all levels can play freely together, and high leveled players get "bumped" down when they are in lower level zones so that no mater where they are, its still challenging.
The only thing is, there are no mounts, and death is a bit of a pita, but since every player can revive someone, there is usually someone who is willing to run over and get you back on your feet without you having to fork over some copper to get ported back to a way point.

Character customization it off the charts...seriously, its awesome how much you can customize characters.
you can have up to 5 characters, all are on the same realm, and you can only be on one realm, but can pay to transfer over to another.

5 races, 8 classes, all races can be any class (called professions). I like the ranger prof, its like hunters, you "charm" a juvenile beast and forever know how to summon it after. like "learning" it.

But the thing I really like about the game is that on top of your own personal story line (of which you can have people come help you) there are lots of world events that go on, people are really friendly, the whole game seems to be based around everyone helping each other. But its also possible to do many solo things if you don't feel like playing with others.

God there are heaps of f2p ones that i've been told are good. There is one coming out based around dragons that looks really good. Basicly all classes are hunterlike as you tame dragons that can be both used as hunter pets (tanks etc) and mounts! So a tank with a pet etc. Forgot what it's called

I know about guildwars 2 but I don't have the money at all to buy it. That's why I'm looking for free games. (yes I know long term free but no money to buy it buy it)

God there are heaps of f2p ones that i've been told are good. There is one coming out based around dragons that looks really good. Basicly all classes are hunterlike as you tame dragons that can be both used as hunter pets (tanks etc) and mounts! So a tank with a pet etc. Forgot what it's called

TERA's an option if you haven't tried that. I've heard good things about it's PvE and it has some very nice graphics to it. I don't know much outside of the starting zone though. XD

Huh, TERA was pay-to-play, did they change their gaming model?
TERA is fairly interesting, but it does have a little bit of a learning curve if you've never played an action combat type RPG game (ie you need to be dodging attacks and be maneuverable as you attack as opposed to WoW where you stand and shoot and always hit your target). GW2 has this, but to a much lesser extent and is more forgiving. TERA is also home to skimpy outfits and perverts galore because of the female outfits and one or two of the races, so fair warning there.

I would suggest City of Heroes but they shut their servers down.

Neverwinter is a newish free-to-play but I don't really know anything about it other than a coworker is trying it out.

Looks like Aion is free to play, but be warned, it's very grindy as it's more popular with the Eastern gamers.

I've been enjoying the story lines in Star Wars: The Old Republic. As an F2P player you're a bit limited in many areas, but since I'm just playing for the story I don't mind. The price is right, after all!

Already own a copy of swtor, played when it became free to play and most ppl I ran into don't like people that are free accounts. :s People is what drove me away from that game.

When I was playing it recently (a month or two ago) I didn't encounter any grief while I was playing without a sub. I ended up caving in and getting a sub because I wanted a certain race lol. That is why one of my friends quit it though.

I've been that way recently. Can't find an mmo I want to play thats not WoW or swtor. That Dragon Prophets one does look pretty neat. My bf loved Tera, but idk anything about it.
