what the word "Huntard" does to you?

Unread post by evil950510 »

Hunters get a lot of crap and blamed very often when something fails either a dungeon or raid, and most often "Huntard" is the first word used. How has your reation been to this negative word?

Actually, the amount of abuse I've suffered as a hunter in pugs is one of the reasons I simply don't group with anyone any more, unless I know them. Which means no recent dungeons, no recent raids.

I'm happy that they brought in the 3-man scenarios because this allows me to see new content with my two best friends in the game.

I've been harassed and harangued for being "under-geared"... well, guess what? Why do you think I'm DOING the stupid dungeon to start with?

I've gotten blamed for the tank pulling too many mobs.

I've gotten blamed for the healer not healing the tank (said healer often completely ignoring me and never dropping any heals my way).

I've been ridiculed for having low DPS... see: under-geared, and "why do the damned dungeon in the first place".

Anyway all that to say that WoW is a game, and as such is supposed to be fun.
I'm sick of other players' attitudes toward hunters.
/Trade is always full of "huntard" comments.

And besides, if hunters were so OP that they needed all this nerfing, where the hell does the "huntard" thing come from?

I call myself a Huntard when I send my pet in and pull a boss/mob by mistake. I call myself a huntard when I need an item I can't use by mistake.

Hunters have been one of the most easy classes since the beginning. They're newbie friendly and because of this they have always had the name 'huntard'. New people do stupid stuff.
It really isn't anything to get upset about though, really. If you laugh with people about it they will stop bugging you about it. If you get upset, they will continue because their goal is to get you to freak out.

Besides, DK's are worse. ;3

Siggy under construction!

^ This. If you don't react to it as an insult, people won't have a reason to use it on you. If they continue, it just makes them look dumb, honestly.

Yes... yes they are. :) Or they were. A lot fewer DKs around than there used to be, it seems.

Getting called a huntard even before any chances of mistakes = no fun.
Getting called a huntard, despite not having done a single thing wrong = not fun.
Being referred to by strangers as "the huntard" while in a PUG = not fun.

I've always done my best.
But simply being a hunter apparently, is enough to merit the huntard label.

You guys might not be bothered by it, but there are some of us who are.

That is indeed true! It's like bullying/trolling in a way, they just want you to react to it and if you ignore them they will stop but if you react to it like it's an insult and get upset about it they will keep on doing it.

Doesn't really bother me. Most of the time it quickly lets me know who the intellectually challenged players are, as they are the ones who are generally quickest to throw that word around. Lacking an intelligence high enough to comprehend the situation, and figure out what actually happened, they grasp at the only thing their limited thought can comprehend, which is "Huntard".
Such people are not worth my attention.

As a rule of thumb, I try not to let it bother me too much. Most of the people who throw "huntard" around are just morons looking for an excuse to fight. My old hunter friends and I used to scream HUNTARDS UNITE! during raids or arenas for laughs, sometimes for morale boost. When among other hunters it can be used as a battlecry of camaraderie.

But it's still pretty rude term by connotation, and I don't blame people who get upset by it.

I try not to be upset by it, generally. It really only bothers me when I go to stuff like the recent PvP forums and see it paired with things about how we're a one button class. Spamming AS doesn't make a good hunter, and it only shows that those people have never played the class....

The times it hurts the worst is when I do LFD, get and "lol huntard" and then am kicked before we even start.

personally I believe it to be a "mentally challenged (not gonna say the word but it ends in tard and starts with re)" hunter, when people call me one, I ignore them because I know they are wrong and clearly dont know what a huntard is

a huntard is someone is bad, thats it, its just another word for noob to me or "newb"

The word doesnt bother me at all because it doesnt pertain to me.... You only hear the word huntard used if you mess up or something. Ive been in a pug with another hunter and he messed up pulling a huge group and wiped us, they called him a huntard not me lol.

Well, you've been lucky then.

I have joined a random group only to be immediately kicked simply for being a hunter. Accompanied by the obligatory "oh god, kick the huntard, get us some real DPS". This is before even starting the dungeon.

I've NEVER messed up while in a group. I haven't grouped enough to get that chance.

But no, "huntard" isn't only used for those who mess up. It's applied to the entire class. The general consensus is that ALL hunters are "huntards", because playing a hunter is "face roll".

I've gotten it a few times when people blamed me for something that wasn't my fault at all. Usually the tank or healer pulling mobs. Generally, I point out the true culprit and they go "...oh" and move on. Sometimes I really did do something dumb, and I go "well crap" and admit that it was my fault, tell them I'll not do that again, and we move on. Being calm and reasonable tends to shut up the total idiots.

I have yet to get the huntard kick, but I imagine I'd be a bit ticked at that.

What really bothers me is the "BM Huntard" thing, which I hate with a burning intensity. But that's a bit different.

I've never been kicked from a group ever, nor harassed, nor asked to leave for being a hunter. And I've done quite a lot of random dungeons and raids and I've made mistakes just as anyone else has. Maybe it's more of a problem on some realms than others? Not sure what you can really do in those situations other than try to see the positive in it: "Thank goodness I'm not stuck with those idiots!" because you can imagine how bad the run would have been if you'd stayed around.

If you let it get to you then it's like letting them win. And I wouldn't let anyone have that satisfaction.

My raid leader has taken to calling me his favorite huntard. I'm proudly doing my best to fail to meet expectations. :)
