Worgen Druid Forms

Unread post by Fael »

Edit: Added moonlost's pics and 2 sets

I didn't see a similar thread so I hope it's fine that I made one. Today I learned about the new druid forms, did some hunting and thought I would share what I have found since there is a presently Troll druid thread. :)
I think they're pretty decent looking for a wolf bear/cat. I wish the cats had bushier tails and I am a bit weirded out by the rippling details on the muzzles. They seem rather more like lions than they do wolves. I love the armor on the bears and how they have the splayed worgen fangs.

Here are photos of the cats:

I wouldnt argue one bit if these were the new forms - I like them. I agree maybe make the cats look a bit more wolfish but the mane comes from the male worgen obviously. I love the bright orange eyes though those really wow me.

And tauren cat and bear and flight forms have horns. Horns.

I am loving these forms, even the psychotic black bear in the one picture, it looks like a Foo Dog someone did on DA, just loving it. Idk which I'll go for, but def rolling a worgen drood.

Edit: the comment wasn't to start an argument. It's incase anyone protests wolfish lions.

I found them on various sites, one of them being MMOwned. However I primarily found them by searching for variations of 'Worgen Druid Form', 'Worgen Cat Form' and the likes and limited the search to within the past day and week. You can try as well and should find them. :)

I'm fairly certain that the bear and cat group shots with the labels were made by the same person and so there must be a larger version of that cat picture somewhere. I've been trying to find that.

Eh, worgen cat form there looks a lot like the cat form's of the lions and to a lesser degree the wolves from Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. I'm with holding judgement for the moment, not sure if I think this is real or not.

That's fine with me! The latest pictures I found came from this thread: http://wowbox.yatta.com.tw/bbs/viewtopi ... 93&t=21436

I can't understand a word of it but finding pictures here and there today has me leaning towards them being real. I think the textures were only just added to the game. That cat picture really shows the details on the muzzle well and I'm only more weirded out by it. It's like he stuck his muzzle in a hornet nest!

Wow! Even though I'm not planning on rolling a worgen druid, these look fantastic, even if they aren't authentic. Id they aren't authentic, they sure did one heck of a good job. They've got very wolfish faces. It's a nice way to please both the people that wanted a wolf form instead of a cat, and those who wanted an original cat form.
Though... it does look a little strange. Almost like a wolf head pasted onto a cat's body

I wish they made the forms a little more gender-neutral. I can suck up the cat's form (It isn't as terr-bad as the Troll ones I've seen)... But I'm not fond of how it looks overly masculine and like the Tauren's catform, minus the horns. It would have been nice to see a different breed of cat used (like a Sabertooth or something).

The BEARS however, I hate. I HATE how they've beards. I hate how their faces look like rat faces. Why the hell did Blizzard narrow the nose/muzzle at the end and leave the ears that flared and pointy?

Bears and Canines share a similar ancestor. They should not look that much different. Frankly, I had pondered turning my Nelf Druid into a Worgen one.. but given the constant disappointment the Worgen are turning out to be, I'm reconsidering.

Seriously.. BEARS WITH BEARDS. Lawl wut? :P

I hope they're authentic. I like 'em. Then again, bear form is odd, but that doesn't matter. Knowing my history, I'll be in wolfy or kitty form all the time. xD

I know right it's like cats and bears with horns and nose rings! Seriously where is any of the realism and non fantasy! I want my normal looking bears and cat forms!!!

You're playing a fantasy game. Why are you complaining about cats and bears having 'masculine' hair or 'beards'

http://wow.danomatic.com/thedailydruid/ ... review.jpg

Tauren cat has a beard.

http://common.allakhazam.com/images/d/a ... 9dc468.png

Look, beard again! And horns!

What I'm trying to say is, your complaining about facial hair on an animal, when it's not supposed to be purely an animal. Besides nothing can beat Nose-ring cat form for Tauren, especially when FEMALE tauren do NOT have nose rings.

But I'm not fond of how it looks overly masculine and like the Tauren's catform, minus the horns. It would have been nice to see a different breed of cat used (like a Sabertooth or something).
Why a Sabertooth is just a lion. With bigger teeth. >_>

And trust me. The bear is not rat bear.

@ Ryai

Without quoting too much from your prior post, I thought I'd clarify and touch on a few things you've brought up in regards to what I had posted.

1) The Sabertooth / Smilodon I suggested was suggested as a way to not be a cop out to reusing Tauren cat bodies for the Worgen. (And visa versa for the Troll's druid forms who are a reform of the Night Elves).

The Smilodon is not just a 'large lion with bigger teeth'. If you think that, please do google up images :) That'll help with a better idea. To speed things along, a good example would be the bone structure of a museum skeleton of a Smilodon: http://www.museum.state.il.us/exhibits/ ... eleton.gif

They have a more compact body type opposed to modern felines and are more 'square' built (IE leg length is more or less even to the length of the spine (not including tail)) which actually reflects the proportions of a wolf. Do you see why I mentioned this particular species of cat? It would easier blend the attributes of a wolf with a cat, without getting the 'LAWL It's a Tauren Minus Horns'

In addition, I still dislike how masculine the Tauren druid forms look too. That is a personal preference. I think it was cheap to just reuse the forms from another race.

2) Yes. It is fantasy. I like fantasy aspects. However, a little jaw hair/fur/what have you isn't bad. When you have something you technically can braid when the rest of the face looks nude/stark against it, it creates visual rifts that are not aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. That, coupled with the profile image of the tapered down/slant to the bride of the nose gives the impression it is a Rat-Bear-Lion instead of a Bear-Wolf blend.

There are better ways to blend wolf/bear attributes. Hell.
Example: http://goldenwolf.deviantart.com/art/Ur ... -114815237

She blended the skull shape and dynamics of a bear, with a few lupine features to give a hybrid of a bear/wolf. This isn't the only way to do it, but I am pointing out an example in which it has been done before with a bit more visual success.

Everyone has an opinion. While you have yours that whatever Blizzard does is right, I'm saying they can improve and I feel what they've done is cheap. Not everyone will agree with you, and I know not all will agree with me. However I am attempting to better outline WHY I said I dislike such things.

I'm going to also call the Troll Druid forms that another post touched on, as cheap and ugly as well. They had a great opportunity to use tiger forms, and really build up some stuff. They're on the right track (As are the additional perks (IE Brass knuckles on the Worgen Bears)) of creating some really fun designs, but they're not there yet. I'm praying these are Works in Progress because they look sloppy.

The only GOOD thing I can say about the forms for the Worgen Druid Forms, is at least the color pallet doesn't look as WTF as the Troll ones.

PS:
This reply isn't meant as 'snippy'. I'm trying to be as clear cut with my reasoning so you can better understand my prior comment(s). Text isn't a very forgiving medium.

I think Nelf druids take the cake on rat faces. Look at the center one on the bottom. Yikes!!

I'm not saying what Blizzard did is right.

I'm just pointing out you're complaining about bears with beards and I have a tauren drood.

Cat form; beard and nose ring.

Bear form; beard

Flight form; horns, rather, not ears, and hair.

All have horns.

I just don't get where you're coming from, complaining about fuzz faces of bears.

I don't see anything cheap about this tbh. Cheap would have been what Tauren droods had for cat form since vanilla.

I think it's just because they are forcing a masculine looks on druids rather than allowing a choice in appearance. That was a big issue with both Night Elf and Tauren forms. The Tauren were too manly with their beards and nose rings while the Night Elves were too girly with their pinkish hues and baubles. Perhaps they're trying to even it out a bit? They're failing in making the troll forms girly so far... -_-

I hope in the future when work is done they'll look back into the idea of letting druids customize forms a bit. Being able to take off the nose ring would be a nice start.

I recall one person's idea of what female lions could look like, as well as being hornless/ringless: http://whisperpntr.deviantart.com/art/W ... ?offset=30

They do look authentic, I am just waiting and seeing. *Laughs* I've always liked the look of the lions and then later the wolves in the Fire Emblem's later installments, so it's not a complaint at all.

Well argument aside....these do look pretty authentic, though like everyone else is saying I'll wait for official confirmation.

I don't mind the cat form so much, even if it does look a bit like a dog/cat hybrid. That's to be expected, I guess, seeing as it is a wolf-man turning into a cat (dunno why they couldn't have just had a wolf-form instead, though).

The bear form makes me LAWL, though. It's just so silly! XD
