having trouble keeping aggro on my pet

Unread post by Sukurachi »

every morning, I do my tillers farming for rep.
and it seems like every day it's the same thing: if I try to pull two of those annoying critters that infest my plants, or two of those birds feeding on my crop, my pet cannot seem to keep aggro at all.

I always open with Misdirect, and still the mobs come straight for me.
Is this some sort of bug related to those particular mobs?

It's as if my MD isn't affecting them at all.

Try casting MD after the virmin or hawks have spawned. Not completely sure if that works or not because I no longer bother try to MD to my pet on the farm, I just let them whack on me since they can't hurt me much anymore.

I know for sure if you cast MD before they spawn, it will not work, even though it uses up the MD charge.

that's so... strange!
it seems like a bug, no?
when you cast MD itself should have no bearing on when its effect strikes a mob?

well, I'll try it this morning on my Tiller dailies and let you know.

I pulled two of the bird things while doing my gardening.
I waited for my pet to have aggro on the first one, then pulled the 2nd one.

As soon as I saw it appear in the sky, I targeted it and hit my MD macro and fired at it.
MD went off... and the bird ate my face. And kept feeding. Even when I had my pet attack it, it kept eating my face.

I don't like having my face eaten.
:-(

So I can't figure out why my pet isn't taking the aggro.

Maybe its an issue with the macro itself.

Personally I haven't had any issues with my pet keeping aggro, mine keep it just fine.

Maybe you just need to plow them harder...

So I just went and tested it out - 3 virmin, 1 hawk. Each time I MDed after they popped up (and for the sake of the test I turned off growl) and I was not able to redirect the mob to my pet. So yes, it does appear that MD isn't working on the farms.

That said, you can still keep aggro via growl, just pop them 1 mob at a time.

It sounds like they may be another of the MoP creatures that are immune to taunts, MDs etc.

Mind you, with decent ilvl I can now kill these with auto-shot and hardly take any damage ...

Yeah with my current gear I can just ignore these pests for the most part - an explosive trap and multishot will take out an entire group of them once I've popped them all. But since not everyone has that level of gear I can't recommend that as the best way to handle it.

oh, I have no trouble killing them either.. it's just scary when you try to MD to your pet and nothing happens.
it makes me wonder if that happens elsewhere.

Only other place I can think of off the top of my head is brawler's guild. I used to try to MD before I landed in the arena, which doesn't work. But if you MD once you are on the arena floor then it works as normal.

it would seem that the only way for your pet to get aggro on your farm is by attacking and using its own abilities directly.
MD doesn't seem to work at all. I tried numerous ways and none made the mob turn to my pet.

I was having the same issue with my main hunter, and even though I was using the same macro on my panda hunter, it wasn't impacting the panda.
What seemed to have resolved it for me was recreating the macro again (via copy paste), and then it just started working again.

Honestly not sure why but might give that a shot. YMMV though
