Deth'tilac, Soloing, annoyances, and bugs.

Unread post by Twila »

So with the patch comes people flooding to new lands leaving old lands long forgotten. It was here I chose to go out and hunt for one rare spawn for my horde hunter. Deth'tilac, the rare blue flame spider in the molten front.

I wasn't surprised to find him up, in fact every one of the rares was up when I came and left me with a fun taming spree. But Beth proved the hardest even at lv90 with my 492 ilv gear.

I made four solo attempts on him. First with out a pet figuring that I'd deal enough damage on my own... that ended up being a flop. While I could do damage to him it was taking an agonizingly long time, 10 mins in and not even 5% down... yeah that wasn't going to work. FD and reset.

So I got out a pet and opted to just make Deth 'Deth Strike' it to lower his health down. First attempt didn't last long at all. I attempted to kite him around the tall wall, hopping though a crack that is near his spawn point. He ended up evade bugging and resetting after that first cut through.

Next attempt I kept him more in the open, there was no other players around so I didn't have to worry about someone coming in, and even if one person did? I doubt they would be much worry. I kited Deth all over the place, the smaller spiders I agrowed along the way were taken out with two/three shots, nothing to worry about. At last Deth was low, his Molten Will gone. I dismissed my pet and to my horror Deth, who was agroed onto me, evade bugged and reset.....

Okay... 4th attempt. During my last I found a nice spot to kite Deth around in that didn't take em on a nice tour of the whole Forlorn Spire. You know that tall rock formation you get that achive from by climbing? Yeah I settled to just kite Deth around that and it worked like a charm, the extra spiders that agrowed were no worry, could walk around or just kill them along the way. Once again Deth was dropped after killing my pet. I tried to tame again, but it said a pet was active.... bah! I stunned, slowed and revived my pet, then abandoned it.... and like before with dismiss.. Deth took that as his cue to return home and reset on me, evade bugging my taming attempt.

Needless to say I wasn't happy. Each attempt took a long while as my pet needed to grab agro for Deth to strike it, and that was annoying to try and do while also kiting around. (Seen people say Growl isn't working too well this last patch... it sure wasn't working much here)

Something here was deff bugging out. I did a test run after, pulling with pet on deth, dismissed pet, and sure enough Deth reset back.

Thankfully a friend had logged in during my last attempt and came over on his hunter to help. I had hoped to Solo Deth, but this evade bug wasn't letting it happen. With my friend and I, using his pet as the sacrifice I at last got the tame.

But this raises the question... Is he bugged like this for everyone else or was it just bad luck for me? Something about removing my pet from the fight didn't agree with Deth, and note, the 3rd attempt Deth was very low, and I called my peck back on passive to widdle down the last 1% needed on my own. So my pet didn't have agro, wasn't attacking, Deth was fully on me, but once my pet was removed Deth reset. The same happened the last time, after I revived my pet I called it back to passive, Deth was on me, and again he reset.

This was one big annoyance... and a good hour or so in attempts (taking a small break in between each long kiting run). But at least in the end, he joined me by my side.

You can't let him wander too far from his rock but you still gotta keep him focused on you. He's tricky like that cause of where he's located. One little trip up can make him bug out.

Also for future reference, you could've had your friend use his druid to root him. ;3

Personally I didnt find it too hard, I recommend practicing ice traps in lfr and also replacing kill command with concussive shot and just spamming it, your finger will be used to spamming that button so yeah

grats on getting him! my fav pvp pet! :D

I will go check this out when I got the time, but this is deffo not normal behavior for deth to reset when you dismiss the pet during the fight when you(as hunter) are the one having aggro.

btw weren't snake traps also not quite handy on this tame I remember back then that I was using that >_>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_BUIjCmyFk There's my old video of my solo tame if that helps. I have no idea why YouTube decided to put it in micro wide screen or w/e that is, but it should still get the job done.
