Returning to WoW for a Month - to start with

Unread post by Ana »

My husband and i talked it over and we desided to give WoW a try again... to see if we can click with it again... We like everquest and Neverwinter Nights online.. so we thought we try out WoW just for fun..

I just wish there were more soloable stuff in WoW... so i would not count on any other to get my factions/mounts/transmorg/achivement...

Any advice for a returning player ? i mostly like to solo in the other games so will try to find a way to enjoy wow solo too

ohh and names on hunter sites / search databases would be good too.. can only remember thottbot :P

Well, I've been taking a break from the game as well, for about three months now. But that's mostly just boredom with MoP .. I know I'll come back when WoD comes around.

But while I know what you mean especially after playing ESO for a bit (which is a great game for solo play, except for when you want to do dungeons), there are of course ways to play solo.

You could work on getting exalted with old factions for titles and more, or complete some old quests for achievements.

There's also always the battle pet system... While there's pvp battling, you can always just battle wild pets too; collecting all the wild pets and pets from old raids/factions/quests can give you something to do too.

You can solo farm old raids and dungeons for transmog and mounts (and achievements while you're at it)

Maybe make a new alt if it doesn't bore you too much; maybe a new class, or if you've only played one faction to max level, try out the other. Questing can be done entirely solo of course, though it can be slower than dungeons IMO.

Maybe collect all the rare hunter pets, or unique looks? That often involves a lot of waiting around though, and I don't know how many of them you have.

Level professions, even though I find it boring.. It can be done alone.

Can't really think of anything else, though :(

Also most people use wowhead nowadays instead of thottbot :P

Yeah I actually started a draenei female, and I planned on having her have a themed stable (blues and whites). But that was before my break >.> lol.

I'm definitely looking forward to WoD; the new models, the new pets to tame, the new mounts to go after, the garrisons... But I know towards the end when I've completed everything I'll get bored again. End game content gets boring fast for me.

I hope though that you end up liking WoW again!

WoW has a lack of soloable content?
Odd because I have almost ONLY soloed for the last 9 years in WoW.
(and yes, dual-boxing is still soloing... it just makes things a TINY bit easier)

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

i think it has a serious lack of soloable content when i compare it with the huge worlds there are in some of the others mmorpgs ;)... yes old content is soloable but i feel that WoW needs to offer more endgame solo option for those of us who dont like raids or grps...or grinding the same 50 daily quest every day :D

like which "other MMORPGs"?

the new Final Fantasy forces you to group.
the new WildStar also forces you to group.

most other large-scale MMOs have obligate group content.

WoW is far from the only only one that has group content. WoW's advantage is that you can STILL play all the way to level cap without ever grouping once.

just saying. It's unfair to say that WoW has limited solo material when in fact it's probably the most solo-friendly MMO on the market.

Everquest 1+2, Neverwinter nights is those i play the most.. and i played WoW on and off since Vanilla.. and i still think it lacks in endgame solo content :)
Sukurachi i dont meant to offend just to say what has been my experience with WoW through the many years ive played it... i feel the world is a bit to small and i miss the solo dungones i can get in EQ1+2 and NWN

i was in Final Fantasy beta and desided NOT to play it cause it was too grp focused. I never never never grped in everquest 1 for a dungeon... wel lcept to powerlvl my husband.. i miss that in wow.. can go into a dungeon my lvl and not blast through it but enjoy the design and the many nameds

again not an insult to wow and i would not return if i thought it was a bad game.. i just wish it had some more stuff for my playstyle

Well i think you would really enjoy the brawlers guild if you are up for some really fun/hard soloing challenges. the entry tickets are easy to come by now and you get some very nice rewards from it. heirloom fist weapons, a title, lots of fun achievements, a fair bit of gold from special ticket bosses, a battle pet and of course one of the only three mushan mounts in the game. (Plus you and your hubby could cheat a little bit on hexos and have one of your mash the buttons while the other one spins through the maze if you are not good at multitask button mashing like i am >.>)

what kind of raids have you been soloing? i know that pretty much everything in lk and cata can either be solod or two manned now. I'm currently farming throne of the 4 winds solo and 2manning firelands, icc 25m heroic, ds10m and soon I will be farming yogg. also ZG is an easy solo for those mounts and zul'amam should be solo content by now too. I only go there to farm mojo frogs so I have never killed the bosses myself.

Timeless isle should give you a few days of fun. all the rares and bosses are world tags so both factions and all groups can share them. there are lots of little puzzles, hidden chests and vanity items to collect and everything has a chance to drop 496 (?) account bound gear tokens along with soulbound 535 upgrades for said tokens.

for non-solo contents downloading OQ and using open raid is a good way to find quick groups for something.
thottbot merged with Wowhead.
icy veins and noxxic can give some good tips on spec/glyphs ect
