Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
At the moment, almost everyone seems to agree that Rylaks are Chimeras. I pretty much feel the same way: they're chimeras, and shouldn't be considered a 'totally different creature'. So instead I want to make a suggestion (and already Tweeted it) for a different creature:
Mana Wyrms
They have multiple skins already, they're Outlands creatures, they float magically (so a Slow Fall ability wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility), they already have multiple animations (including a swimming animation), and they're already marked as beasts without a specific type.
While the Arcane Serpents have already been added to serpents, I don't feel that it would be impossible to consider these as their own family and leave Arcanes as Serpent. After all, many wasps are a type of silithid, yet they're called 'wasps' and not 'silithids'.

Great idea! I myself would like to see Pterrodaxx as replacement for 'Hook Wasp' but any other family that can be distinguished from the other models would be great imho.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
The thing is, there are no pterrodax in the new world. They are all 'old world' creatures. Generally when new pets are created, they make sure that these new pets have a presence in the newer zones that they are adding, even if they have a presence in the old world as well. Hydras, for instance, have a strong presence in the older worlds, but there are plenty of hydras (including the new models) in the new world.pop wrote:I myself would like to see Pterrodaxx as replacement for 'Hook Wasp'
On the other hand, Mana Wyrms first (and, for that matter, last) appeared in Outlands. I don't know if there are any present in the *new* 'Outlands' world, mind you. But as that's where they first showed up *ever*...

Pssh. In before Iron Horde Pterrordax. Having said, would this include Acroniss? Do you want non bm hunters to be mad, cause that's how you get non bm hunters to be mad.Kurasu wrote:The thing is, there are no pterrodax in the new world. They are all 'old world' creatures. I didn't know there were a lot of silithids in WoTLK!

There is no pattern to it. Some expansions are almost entirely filled with pets that appear in the new world, and some expansions are filled almost entirely with pets that only appear in older content.

Kunchong for hunter pets!

Ahh, good point. I thought Silithids entered tameability in Cataclysm. But you're right. It was WotLK. And core hounds didn't become tameable until WotLK, as well.I didn't know there were a lot of silithids in WoTLK!
EDIT: *Still* unable to quote, apparently.

I stand behind this 100%. I was actually a little broken hearted when arcane serpents were made tamable and mana wyrms were still left sitting on Sunstrider Isle floating around companion-less.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
I'd like to see these more than almost any other family simply because they're quite different to almost everything we have. Not only in look, but in their affinity (magic), which opens up the possibility of more special powers that are related to the arcane. The only thing really similar are the arcane wyrms, and if we got mana wyrms I'd hope those would be shifted across to the new family to join them.
While we haven't seen any mana wyrms in the alpha yet, they should be around (unless they all came flooding in after the world broke?). Actually, either way, places like SMV and wherever Gul'dan is lurking should attract them. And we still have two unused arcane wyrm skins (green and yellow) that could make an appearance

I think they would make a nice addition to the rather unnoticed serpent family.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
Ahhh I agree so much, I feel like mana wyrms should have been tameable back in BC. I'd like them as their own family, but I wouldn't complain if they added them to serpents. I'd just like to have one.

Rather unnoticed? There are more serpent colors and types than there are Sporebats, Devilsaurs, Dogs, Foxes, Gorillas, Monkeys, Nether Rays, Goats, Moths, Porcupines.... shall I go on?Scarlet wrote:I think they would make a nice addition to the rather unnoticed serpent family.
Plus, from the sound of things, there's going to be even more coming in. Unless the tameability on the tameable ones is a mistake, that is.

... I think she meant that people don't use them much, which seems to be true
Well, apart from the arcane wyrms. Virtually every serpent I do see is an arcane wyrm.

OH!Wain wrote:... I think she meant that people don't use them much, which seems to be true
... well, don't *I* look silly?

Of course, if that's the fact, the better question is *why* aren't people using them? I don't think it's because of 'lack of models'. I think it's A) because people are afraid of snakes and thus uncomfortable, and B) because the *ability* isn't as good as others' is. I am not sure mana wyrms would make a big difference here.
I agree: the only ones I see people using are the arcanes. But that said, I *do* see people using the arcanes, unlike, say, the number of people who use rhinos, goats, or nether rays (i.e. zero).
Of course, I could just be bringing up the argument because I would *much* rather see a 'Mana Wyrm' pet family than a 'Rylak' pet family, and they seem to me to be the best match.

Yeah, agreed there. Would love for them to have their own arcane family!

Is it bad I'd rather not hunters get these but Arcane mages instead? >>; *is gonna get bricked* Frost has a pet and it'd make sense an Mana Wyrm(aka something arcane) would go to a mage. I've heard many an arcane mage wanting a pet like frost mages get. Whether a mana wyrm or an arcane elemental.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
Yes, What Wain said is right, I meant in the fact that they don't seem to be used as much as some other pets. Sorry if it was unclear ^.^
And having a fear of snakes could make a difference. I know I will not tame an insect pet because of my fears.
I thought that maybe the fat little glitter snakes would inspire people to play with the serpent family a little.
Sort of like how 'everyone' wanted a tiger when the MoP model was released, you know? ehehe.

Look at the smiley little guy hehehe

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
Maybe as a burst pet instead of an all-the-time pet, the water elemental is what differentiates frost from the other specs. A glyph that turns mirror images into mana wyrms would be keen. Or maybe as a non-combat follower, and when you use a mana "gem" it drains the mana wyrm (or kills it on the last charge).Junrei wrote:Is it bad I'd rather not hunters get these but Arcane mages instead? >>; *is gonna get bricked* Frost has a pet and it'd make sense an Mana Wyrm(aka something arcane) would go to a mage. If we're talking about new hunter pet families, there's others higher on my personal list. And I do think that mana wyrms were introduced into outland after Draenor blew up (either from blood elves or from the nether). Then again, I thought that faerie dragons came from night elves showing up in Outland, so who knows.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
I swap between my cobra and my hyena (as they both give attack speed currently) pretty frequently. I think I'd use a snake more often if we could get one of the ToT/Timeless Isle models, though I feel like the reason we haven't ALREADY got that model tameable is because they're so low slung and there's concerns for pvp or something :| I really like the arcane wyrms but they're too big for me—same problem I have with devilsaurs and core hounds, actually—and I wouldn't mind seeing some of them moved to other groups.
I also think there's room for a ranged pet again, as silly as that sounds, and mana wyrms seem like they'd be a good fit for that, as well.

Re: Suggestion For New Pet Family: Mana Wyrms
Yes, but there were already a *TON* of people who were hugely interested in getting cats. Same with wolves and the new wolf models; 'everyone' wants a wolf now.Scarlet wrote:Sort of like how 'everyone' wanted a tiger when the MoP model was released, you know? ehehe.
Compare that to the number of people who jumped on the new models for crabs during Cataclysm. Or the new models for worms with silkworms in Pandaria. Sure, there were quite a few, but it wasn't the swarm.
