Blizzcon boring????

Unread post by zedxrgal »

I didn't buy a virtual ticket. First year ever. And at this point I am VERY glad I didn't. Seems like Blizzcon was ....................... boring this year. No major news reported. Least that I can see of.
Overwatch was announced. Meh Team FPS. Not my thing.
Starcraft expansion. Could be cool but I've never played before.
And a expansion or something-er-other for Hearthstone. Which I also do not play.

I was really hoping for ground breaking - exciting news like say Warcraft 4 coming out something like that. Seems like WoW was left out of the convention this year. And Diablo III seems to have nothing exciting happening for it.

I mean. Was anything even announced regarding WoW or Diablo III?

I think this is also the first year this site hasn't been loaded with posts from Blizzcon.

Anyone actually see /hear anything exciting for WoW?

I'm going to disagree with it being boring for a start. There was heaps of great stuff.

For WoW they had some footage from the movie and some of the costumes for some of the main cast. I did not expect much Wow stuff with it being so close to a new expack.

While I'll agree it was very Light on with any new WOW related info, but as a whole it was pretty impressive imo.

While I'm not personally into FPS myself, well haven't been for about 20 years.... (holy shiz, I'm getting old) but the OW reveal I thought was pretty awesome, and then there was Heathstone exp info, SC exp info, Move info, OW reveal, etc.
And I guess they didn't give anything away for WoD, which I think is good, but a shame they could not at least tease us with a few little non-lore/story breaking info or ideas that may be on the upcoming table.

Lastly I think it would have been really good if they had a panel on some of the features in WoD that we know about, but are not yet familiar with, like a Garrisons panel or something. For example Garrisons, I myself have kinda got the gist of them, but still not very confident on what you gain/lose/building compatibilities/costs/times, etc.. and if the costs are high/detrimental to other things later, I would like to feel confident in choosing the right buildings to suit my characters, which I kind of don't atm. I know there are guides on the net and what not, but having it explained, in depth, but in layman's terms from the creators, would have been pretty good. But all up, pretty dam cool event.

It wasn't surprising that it was light on WoW news. What else could they really announce at this point? The expansion is a few days away. I suppose they could have talked about 6.1, but fair enough if they don't want to distract from the excitement of the new expansion at this point :)

Overwatch is highly unlikely to be my kind of game either. BUT I couldn't help but be excited by it. I think (hope) they're onto a winner there. It seems extremely likeable and the trailer was great. And the best part was the announcement came from nowhere. I still can't believe they kept it that quiet!

Part of the fun of watching Blizzcon isn't just the substance, but the enthusiasm. They all really love their products to bits and you can tell. Some are better at public speaking than others, which is fair enough. I'd be a nervous wreck if I had to talk to a convention like that. But then you get ones like Ion Hazzikostas who are eloquent and astute and amazing to listen to. No wonder he gets a lot of public speaking roles.

This was my first virtual ticket so I can't compare it to previous Blizzcons. In terms of WoW content, yes, I agree it seemed very light on that but given the the xpac is days away, I wasn't really surprised by that.

Since WoW is the only game I play, I didn't think I'd be interested in watching most of the content (frankly I'd gotten the ticket for the pet) but since it was paid for I figured I would check some stuff out. Tuned in for a little of the WoW Q&A and the documentary and the closing concert. Also watched the arena matches and the end of the Hearthstone tournament, even though I don't do arenas and don't play Hearthstone. I actually enjoyed the arena matches a lot and even went back and rewatched all the ones I'd missed. So in the end I think I got good value out of it.

I have a /lot/ of fun watching the arena championship, so that was hours of content for me. I knew there wouldn't be any major WoW content since we had an expansion on the horizon, but I always buy the virtual tickets anyways. I enjoyed it!

Please forgive my, somewhat, mindless query. I've had a vicious headache (borderline migraine) for two days and seemingly forgot that Blizzard does major expansions /news on the two year mark. It didn't even click till just now that WoW wouldn't have anything major this year because of WoD.
Totally had my mind blown then really 'ed when I realized MoP came out in 2012, my time frame is skewed and that's why WoW and possibly Diablo III had nothing major to report.

I am very interested in Starcraft and would be interested in playing the new content.

Strangely Overwatch was cool from what I could see but I have a really tough time with some FPS games purely because I sometimes get simulation sickness. :( I'd hate to try and play it then end up wasting the money so to speak.

The trailer for gnomes vs goblins (do I have that right?) was really cute.

Slightly OT, but I think you might find this helpful in regards to Garrisons; I know I plan to make use of it for when the xpac launches.

I disagree that it was boring - I've watched it since they showed it one year on Main Event on Foxtel and then Virtual tickets and it was on par with other years.

I really enjoyed the movie panel and the wow stuff. My husband loved the Legacy of the Void (and the multiplayer sounds really cool) and Diablo was abit light but thats to be expected. Overwatch isn't for me but I enjoyed the pixar-esq trailer and I can see what they are going for with it. I think its meant for younger audiences so they have another target group to "grow" with a game like we all did with Warcraft/WoW.

The documentary that was part of the virtual ticket was awesome too. Was interesting to learn the voice of Thrall plays a Human Paladin ;)

We also made a weekend of it by hooking a laptop up to the main tv, buying snacks galore and veging out all weekend - bliss!

Id say that for anyone only invested in the wow related content, yes it was boring. I enjoyed last years con much more due to the amount of new wow news and all the hype as we got together and looked over the new info and artwork frame by frame so we could speculate and share our findings. but I didn't expect there to be any big announcements since the xpack was a week away and they just started work on the movie. *shakes a fist at all the ticket holders* curse you and your ability to see the exsculcive teaser! curse yyooouuu!
but as has already been stated, we kind of already know all we need to know about what will happen in a week. i'm sure they don't want to spoil or distract us from it. they did have that great documentary though! I was actually counting down the hours until it started.

I think Overwatch was their big announcement and focus point this time. There is no established fan base for it yet so the uber publicity of putting it in the Blizzcon spotlight had to get the ball rolling. FPS are not something that have ever interested me but it still caught my attention regardless.

Wanted to watch the areana matches this year but things were quite laggy for me and it overlaps with the starcraft finals. I cant really say Blizzcon was boring for me despite the lack of new wow news since I spent two days watching starcraft and really enjoyed the Zerg vrs Terran showdown at the end. gah! I never understood how anyone could get excited about football until i watched those games.

I'm going to go against the grain here and mention my overall disappointment in the virtual ticket this year, and this is not my first purchase.

Any worthwhile news/teasers on the WoW Movie was limited to those AT the convention, in an upstairs room which was, from what I hear, "guarded" by bouncer-type people that were not too friendly. Apparently this was under a bit of lock and key by Legendary Films. Pretty much all we got to see was a couple of the armor sets and a bit of the actors. In my opinion, big freaking deal. Virtual viewers got an earful hearing about how "amazing" it was and how we all needed to "go upstairs to see it guys!" -- but gosh, did Legendary allow it to be videotaped for the virtual viewers? NOPE! We got screwed on that. Gotta love those movie boys and their secrecy.

There were numerous issues with the video feed the entire two days; from absolutely crappy camera work, to power outages, to several computer issues during the tournaments. I got to watch the audience more than anything else, although I do now realize I want a pair of those big white blow-up noise maker tube things. More than a few feeds were cut off early, or had timers ticking away in the bottom corner after whatever issue they were struck with at that time, timers started at 5 or 10 minutes, would tick down to 1 or 2, then get reset again to whatever number they wanted to toss at us. Also, for the tournaments, there was no reason to purchase the VT since those are always free anyhow.

Grommloc was kinda pathetic, in my opinion, and as a pet collector was the main reason I bought the VT. Outside of his battle stats (which are none too amazing) what does he do? Nothing. Ok, so he scares critters - big freaking deal, you get more animation from the creepy crate. He doesn't open his mouth to roar or wave his little weapon around or anything. Why was Grommloc given so little attention? 2009's Grunty, 2011's Murkablo, 2013's Murkalot all have very fun and unique idle animations. (I don't recall what 2010's Deathy does, however)

The Blizz gear store... either was not updating properly, or items that were sold out were removed (which I don't believe is the case, since some people said they saw how much stock was remaining on some items). I had wanted to purchase a Frostwolf plush, refreshed the store quite literally a hundred or more times over the course of the weekend and never once saw him for sale, nor listed as sold out. Asked a few friends and they also never saw him. Some of them also never saw the chess set, though I did see it.

Chris Hardwick... I don't mind the guy, and realize he has a unique sense of humor and can be hugely amusing, but I felt he was trying WAY too hard to be entertaining. Maybe he was just overly excited and nerding out, but from his background I highly doubt that was the case since the guy has chatted with nerd gods over the years. And his snarky "milf-hunting" running commentary pretty much everytime he had a mic in his hand struck me as a desperate grab to get any kind of laugh. The guy has so much more talent than that, but I guess he lacks self respect. Climbing around on audience members was a bit much too, I thought.

There was also, in my opinion, too much idle chit chat from the desk commentators. Although I will say, once the WoW Arena and the Hearthstone gameplay got under way, their commentary wasn't bad. HotS commentary was a bit lacking and seemed as though the speaker was one step behind, just saying what we were already seeing. With Arena and HS comments, they quickly discussed the most likely next moves before they were made.

On the other side of the conversation... the Hearthstone stage was amazing. Well done to whoever designed that space.
The Nexus Steed for HotS looks nice, and I darn well better get into beta so I can ride it or I'm gonna QQ. ;)
Overwatch wasn't a total new mention, and it has been floating around the internet for several months, though finally seeing some gameplay was nice and I'll be giving it a try even though FPS is not my thing.
I was pleasantly surprised to see some sizeable ladies and gents in the costume contest. And was even more amazed to see the winner was NOT a thin sexy girl in skimpy armor, although I personally still disagree with the winner. lol

Just my opinions on the overall experience this year. :)

Just wanting to reiterate. I wasn't saying it was boring. I was asking if it was hence the ?? at the end. I didn't buy the virtual ticket this year and so was only seeing what was on the Blizzcon site as news etc.

It just seemed boring because not even friends who'd got the VT had nothing all that exciting to report.

I just wanted to clarify, or at least try to get across what I was asking since I didn't get a VT this year.

I did not buy a ticket this year and am both sad and glad that I did not.

With the price of the expansion and with the upcoming holidays, I really couldn't afford the splurge of a ticket. I told myself if it sounded like they were announcing anything interesting I would go back and buy a ticket just to see all of the neat information.

But nothing in-game WoW related seemed to be announced, which I figured, with the expansion so close. First person team shooter game? Okay that sound exciting-I'll watch people play it on youtube and laugh my butt off, but it is not something I am ever going to play-so I don't really care one way or the other. Diablo? Never bothered to download the free copy I got last year. Hearthstone? Meh I have little to no impulse control so I am just not even allowing myself to play that game, I would go broke way to quick otherwise. As to Starcraft-I just had to ask my friend over Skype what it was called again because I could not remember its name there for a bit.

I am very sad for one thing. I was very, very tempted to get a ticket just to buy the Frostwolf puppy and the Fairy Dragon plushie-but with how quickly the Frostwolf sold out-and Blizzard saying they would eventually restock (I don't have the time to sit around and snipe the store for a restock I don't know when it was coming)-I didn't bother.

It had little to no hype for me-but then I am really only a major fan of WoW itself and not the other games. *shrug*

Two cents for what it is worth.

I will agree with this - the puppy thing was dissapointing. I ended up just getting one off ebay just in case but yeah it sold so quick it wasn't even on the site anymore. You'd think they would have alot of stock of something like that -I also heard people who went to blizzcon queued for 3 HOURS to get one 0.o holy shamozzle!! I'm a plushie tradgic so I also got the fae dragon but considering the murlocs never sold out I was surprised at this one.
