Is it safe to use my slime pet?

I know things like Arenas and Timewalker dungeons are dangerous for pets like the Oil Covered wolf, since the effect is a buff that gets removed, but what about pets that are just no longer obtainable? My slime pet wont magically turn into a regular crocolisk, right?

It's fine, since it's not a buff (hidden or otherwise) that alters its appearance. It's just the model for that pet.
