New slimy visual effect pet trick in Shadowlands

Unread post by Peach »

Heya, long time no see Petopia. I had a fun visual glitch happen while I was exploring and after someone told me that the Petopia twitter was actively seeking information on this, I decided I should post, because I've found two fairly reliable ways to reproduce it. The end result is a semi-permanent slime effect that persists through relogging, changing zones, dismissing/calling, and stabling. It does not persist through death, and if your pet enters a slime pool, it'll reset the effect, so it's fairly fragile. But you can show off your slimy pet around town!

As far as I can tell, this trick only applies to the purely visual slime effect, and doesn't seem to work on any other buffs, which is why I feel okay sharing this. It should go without saying that if you happen to find some way to abuse this and obtain some damage-boosting buff like what has been possible in the past, DON'T use it.

Some examples:

Works on buff pets too, without affecting their existing buffs:

Here are the steps:
1. Go to Maldraxxus (Plaguefall probably works too) and stand near one of the massive slime lakes. A good spot to do this is 60, 72.
2. Use Eyes of the Beast to control your pet.
3. As your pet, jump into the slime lake, and swim as far away from your character as possible, while remaining in the slime. Keep going until the channeling ends on its own.
4. Your pet should despawn automatically. Call it out again and it should have retained the slime appearance.

If this doesn't work (it seems that sometimes, your pet can just teleport back to you), you can try this method instead:
1. Stand near a slime pool.
2. Use the "Move To" command to move your pet into the slime.
3. Run away from your pet until it despawns.
4. Call it out again, it should have retained the slime appearance.

Enjoy your slimy friends!

I think beasts that have ghostly bits get the best effect. It highlights the areas that are normally nearly invisible. It makes it look like the shadehounds are just really skinny dudes on all fours, and it cracks me up so much. Thanks for sharing the trick!

EDIT: I made myself laugh even harder at 4:30 AM (I can't sleep, insomnia sucks) by voicing in the creepiest way I could; "I could be your pet tonight...". Laughing doesn't help me get to sleep, but it sure is funny to imagine some creepy slender ghost dude running around on all fours in a half-complete fursuit made of metal, offering to be my pet. I'm gonna have nightmares when I finally fall asleep, but this humorous moment makes up for it!

This method can be used for my forsaken hunter to make my pets more undead like, and I can make a ghostly pet on my ghost themed hunter, lvl 51 now get a new green glow, this is perfect for spectral pets in general
Edit- I wanted to say that the methods you listed didn’t work for me
1. I did eyes of the beast as far as I can in a slime pool near plaguefall until the cast ended, it didn’t work
2. I moved my pet into a deep pool, whenever I run away, my pet reappears and follows me
3. I tried the same thing as number one in plaguefall, I went as far as I can, it teleported back to me rather than disappearing
