Kitty Dps

Unread post by Adam-Savage »

Any here have a druid that does kitty dps ? I'm looking to change one of my specs to a feral dps for pvp only. It's been a long time sense I did cat dps so I'm pretty rusty with what to use and in what order as well as glyphs.

Here is my druids armory link: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... amiehynema

I got a rotation for you.
Rip > Rip > Rip > Rip > Rip > Shred.

It got me banned from EJ.

I also exist on DeviantArt.

My alliance main was a feral druid.

I changed to feral back in vanilla when it was a stupid, under-powered spec. Tanked our guild's first kill of Broodlord Lashlayer in BWL :D

The main things for cat DPS:
You NEED addons - the default UI is horrible for being a cat. An excellent all-rounder one I remember using (last played Jan 2010) was BadKitty.

Basically, keep rake, mangle and savage roar up 100% of the time, keep 5-point rip up as much as possible, shred in between, use all clearcasting procs for shred (most expensive ability, therefore best use of a freebie).

It's certainly challenging to do well, but extremely rewarding too.

I'd say check the official forum stickies and head over to elitist jerks too.

Stats: Get hit capped, stack Agi/AP and, usual when-you-have-enough things, switch to ArPen at higer levels.

Yeah. I use BadKitty right now, love it. Er...Berserk should be up all the time, if it's off CD, use it UNLESS you're near a boss fight. For trash, get your SR up and then berserk and hit kitty swipe. It'll make your DPS skyrocket. Obviously, refresh mangle and rake when they're low, not half way inbetween or you'll lose energy and damage ticks. That's all I can think of.

A different addon you can use is CatRotationHelper: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addo ... elper.aspx

I used to use BadKitty until around Onyxia's re-release it started to not show cooldowns properly and was lagging me horribly. For some reason it still does! It was taking up a lot of memory. I switched to CRH and though it took a bit of getting used to I actually reaally like its simple interface. It will also let you know when Omen of Clarity is up, if you've used FF or not, shows Berserk cooldown/duration and when Predator's Swiftness procs in a second bar. It's easy to set up and also has its own mode for bearform.

I don't like PVP on my druid, or PVP much in general so I can't personally help on PVP dps. I looked around and it's actually pretty hard to find some good up-to-date cat PVP guides. How you spec may be influenced by your prefereces though, such as is this for arenas or for BGs? It may be helpful to ask on the druid forums in various places for some advice.

Here is one I found that has builds, macros, tips, gear suggestions: http://www.emmerald.net/forum/index.php?topic=1484.0

When I get some more feral dps gear I'll look into everything here some more. I only got 3 pieces. One is a heriolim piece, crafted item 200, and the cloak from the frost boss. I'm hoping VOA will drop something. 2 different bosses that can drop stuff I can use for either spec.

That's PVE though! PVP won't just let you stand in place and keep all dots up. >_<

Yay!

I was in the middle of looking for the John F*ing Madden image when I realised I'd been beaten to it.

It's alarmingly true.

The important parts still apply for PvP, namely yelling JOHN F@$%ING MADDEN when you stunlock your enemy and then teabag them afterward. =P

Ok, I'll be serious now.

The main thing for feral pvp is not to think fully like a cat and not to think fully like a bear. You need both high burst dps and be able to survive multiple players on you. A pvp feral druid that can sneak in and kill quick plus take a beating from five players in bear when needed are the best and most annoying druids. Your spec, glyphs, enchants and gems will be a mix of both cat and bear. Focus on agi and stam. Get 5% hit. Ignore arp in pvp as pvp gear has so little of it that it's not worth it to stack for arp unless you have high level raid gear mixed in with your pvp gear. Resilience will come with better gear.

Glyphs: Only one glyph is a must have for pvp. Otherwise, glyph for more dps or more survivability, whichever you prefer.
Must have: Mangle
DPS: Berserk, Savage Roar, Shred, Rip
Survival: Barkskin, Survival Instincts, Frenzied Regen(only if you have a healbot, mainly for arena)

Spec: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#0ZxGMscbkbeRhIuVk0E0z:c
This spec gives you 6 extra points to change around to your liking.
Shredding Attacks: If you have a hard time getting around people to shred, skip this. Otherwise, this is huge damage for cutting down your enemy when in a pounce lock.
Brutal Impact: For longer stuns.
Protector of the Pack: If you find yourself going into bear a lot and want to survive for a little bit longer.
Improved Mangle: For the lazy that just spam mangle. Great if you don't take shredding attacks.
Imp Mark of the Wild: The 2% inc attributes works all the time, even if you don't have mark on. This talent increases both your dps (with extra agi and str) and survivability (sta and armor).
Natural Shapeshifter/Master Shapeshifter Combo: Usually too many wasted points to get this dps increase for a pvp spec, but some druids can't seem to live without it. Also lowers your shapeshifting costs but you will already have this covered by King of the Jungle and, in my experience, I find that KotJ is enough to never go oom by numerous powershifting out of snares.

Most of the time I find my "rotation" to be prowl -> feral charge (cat) -> pounce -> mangle -> spam shred -> maim when pounce stun wears off -> few more shreds and enemy is dead. If they survive the stunlock, treat the fight more as a pve fight but stop heals with maim and bear bash. Berserk should be kept on hold until you go against a warlock, priest, or (maybe) a warrior that will fear you.

My feral druid's armory. First spec is pvp spec. Secondary spec is bear tank. Yus, I'm cheap and go with blue quality gems.

The addon I use for my feral is Droodfocus. It adds a energy bar and you health bar to the debuff tracking, with little arrows on the energy bar for shred and mangle(which changes with OoC procs). It also tracks combo points, Lacerate stacks in bear form, and the target's health. (And apparently the newest version also shows the target's cast bar? I haven't updated mine in a while.) I just plop it somewhere near the middle of the screen and it makes it real easy to track that stuff and the combat situation with a minimum of eye movement.

OK I got about 50/50 feral/balance right now. Dps is still low on the dummys. what should be my attack order ? I do remember there being a free attack you could use to help build up focus if you where low ?
