First long term pet.
Mine was a little raptor outside of Orgammor, Corrupted Bloodtalon Scythemaw(10-11). Named hoim Bloodmaw, yeah not the best at names, LoL. Kept him all the way till I got Giggler. Was doing the one pet thing for a while, so I let him go instead of putting him in the stable

Re: First long term pet.
First pet at level 10 - A wolf called wolf. Abandoned to get...
Second at level, um, 11 I think - The Rake, renamed to The Welsh. Stabled to get...
Third at level... 16 maybe? A bear from Silverpine forest, my current pet. Name is Raawwrar.
Currently level 31 and going strong with my bearfaced buddy. So... 15 levels is hardly "long term" but it's my best so far
I anticipate getting a Chimaera (for PVP utility) or Devilsaur (albino skin, for pure love) as soon as I reach Beast Mastery.

I knew I wanted Rak'Shiri on my blood elf since level one. I tamed him at level 57, and he's been with me ever since.
On my orc hunter, he wanted Humar, and I tamed him at level 23 I think it was. He is still my steadfast companion.

My first pet (on this character) was a Spindleweb Spider from Ghostlands, I got him at level 10 and named him FatCharlie. He's still with me, though only gets out for PVP really.
The pet that ran with me for the most levels however would have been Humar (whom I named Tiger).

My longest term pet would be King B., whom I named Sorrow. Had him from 43 to 70, abandoned him for a short time (Because I went -crazy-), got him back for a short time, and then filled my stable with SBs. >.<
Another long-term one would be Sergeant. My dwarf had that red hyena from level 37 to 70, then he was neck-broken. Got him back at 80.
Lastly, Tinder, the red lynx. From 45 to 80, never once left my side.

At level 10, I tamed Akasha the moonsaber and she was by my side till level 60. Then I got Cantor, a red worg, for raiding. I kept them all the way till BC, where my raid leader insisted that I got a ravager and a scorpid instead...
Well at the time I took raiding seriously (and I was in a progressing guild, so that was justified), so I abandoned my faithful friends. To ease the pain I invented a story where I entrusted them to the orphan boy in Stormwind, the same one that entrusted me his rat and piggy during the Childrens week.
Those ravager and scorpid never clicked with me (I happily abandoned them as soon as they were nerfed). The cat was back in fashion, but I didn't want to get ANYTHING that would remind me of Akasha, the pain was too deep. So I tamed a brown lynx. Mind you, my scorpid and ravager stayed nameless for the entire time; and with the lynx, the name floated up before I got from the dome where she roamed to Area 52: Rakeesh. She really clicked!
Rakeesh and I have been together for how many, three years now? - and she will stay with me forever. I PvP with her, even though cats might not be the best choice for PvP.
The funny thing is, as Cata draws near, I remember that the little orphan said he wanted to be a hero just like me when he grows up. Well, humans will be able to become hunters in Cata, and I like to think that in a couple more years he will become one, and Akasha and Cantor will run proudly by his side.

Re: First long term pet.
Depends what you mean my "long term".
In terms of levels, Humar the pride lord probably takes the title. From level 26 to level 60. (I wasn't really camping him, so I found him a little later than the norm)
But in terms of actual time, that award has to go to Karash, my Vilebranch Raiding Wolf. I picked him up at level 60 and he was with me for around 4 years. I unfortunately let him go for more stable space... That was just before they made wolves the "must have" raiding pet URGH.
Although Kharash has been replaced with a barking wolf, I'm fully intending on making him a Worgen come Cataclysm.

Re: First long term pet.
I had a red Wind Serpent named Hiss. The little bugger was with me from 30 to 60, and then again from 65 to 70.
"lol stupid thats a casterpet" meant nothing for me. I loved Hiss.

Re: First long term pet.
My first pet (besides the quest ones - the first one that I chose on my own) was a Springpaw Lynx from the ghostlands that I named Samson. Sometimes I wish I still had him, but not enough to go tame one again.
At level 19 or 20 I made my way to Darkshore and got my Moonstalker Matriarch. That's my girl Luna and I've had her since. It was quite the adventure for me as I had never taken a character to Alliance territory before that and I was a nervous wreck.

Re: First long term pet.
First pet - Sparky, some level 10 wolf from Mulgore.
Second - Typ, a level 13 hyena. (Dropped Sparky to get him cuz I was a hunter newb and didn't know how to stable
)
Third pet was a black Silverpine worg named Shadow.
Then I got Humar, whom I named Dynamite, at 24ish, but kept Shadow.
At level 27 I got a white wolf from Ashenvale and named him Scooter. I kept Scooter until level 46, I got a vile branch wolf pup, who's name was also Scooter. I've kept him since.

Re: First long term pet.
Tetsusaiga (Echeyakee) - I had him from level 20 or so all the way to 80, for about five years. I did release him to tame some others I really wanted (King Krush, Loque'nahak, Gondria, and Strider Clutchmother), but I fully intend to get him back when we get more stable slots. I probably won't use him much, but my stables don't feel quite right without him, either.
Since then, the pet that's been at my side the longest, or at least has made the biggest impression on me as a hunter, is Apollyon - King Krush. I got him just after I dinged 75, lost sleep over him, obsessed, and finally got him. That's one I'll definitely never get rid of. He's my pride and joy. :3

On Vephriel that would have been a black armored boar that I named Frankenswine. I went to tame him as soon as I was the right level and he stuck with me all the way to Outland.
I'll be retaming him come Cataclysm. *huggles her boar*

Re: First long term pet.
My first long term pet would be the Death Ravager. He was an awesome pet, and I also loved the fact he wasn't intended to be tamable. Sure he was glitched for pvp, but having him I have no doubt gave the same feeling that having the ghost hydra or slime does now. I had him from level 12 up til level 78.

Re: First long term pet.
Well, my first pet I had the longest was the nightstalkers in the Draenei starting area. I had Rodimus until I was about lvl 57, then I got Rak'Shiri and renamed him to Mirage. But for story purposes, I basically thought "Man, it's cold up here in Winterspring! Hey, my tiger evolved to fit the environment better by adapting a lighter coat and getting bigger to help conserve body heat!" XD After that, I've gone thru many pets depending on situations and the pets they put available. My next longest pet I had would be my Warpstalker named Ironhide. Had a white one first, then the green one. Once WotLK came out, went and tamed the black spawned one. He stayed Ironhide all the way, and every once in a while, I still get questions about him in SW or Dal. Too bad they didn't keep the summoning animation. My other 3 stable slots have constantly changed over and over. Currently I have the red wasp from Sholazar, Nitro, a black Devilsaur, Blackout, and Loque'nahak, Solaris. I had Skoll first, and I think I was the first person on the server with him cause I always had a million questions about him (especially if he was a wolf, cause MM hunters wanted a cool lookin wolf pretty badly), but later dropped him for Loque. I'll someday fill up my slots with Spirit Beasts when we get more slots.

Re: First long term pet.
I almost shouldn't post because y'all know who it's going to be. My first pet from 10 to 16 was a Nightstalker. But from 16 (I'd swear back in the day he was level 16) to 80 Snort has been by my side constantly. I've only released him twice, once in error and got him back immediately.
Secondly of course who had probably been around longer then Snort would be my vanilla wolf whom I'd had since level 12 to 70 but let him go to tame him again and then let him go once more at 80.
Third is of course my clutchmother. Level 20-80. LuLu will more then likely be taking a vacation with Sheldon and a few others in the hopes that The Beast will finally be apart of the family.

Mine was Eckeyakee (spelling?). Used him until 60 when I picked up a Winterspring Pride Watcher.
Re: First long term pet.
Mine was a wolf I named striker. Kept him til 70, then ditched him for a devilsaur. Once we get new slots thats my first tame
