dire beast often spawns creatures we can't tame unfortunately. It just pulls critters from the zone you are in if you don't have the glyph that pulls them from your stables. I think I got a sea turtle once when I was in a dungeon.

Oh I misread! This was a dire beast not a pet or wild NPC. I hadn’t noticed that but maybe part of the area is classed as Midnight and is summoning dire beasts?
