K so i read on MMO champion that in the beta you can now train 310% speed for 5,000g or free if you already have a 310% mount. Does this mean the 280% speed is gone and replaced with 310%? is 280% less gold? fill me in with the details on all the flyer training and costs plz.

Or, and I'm just speculating here, this is simply a new level of riding skill e.g. 280% still costs 5k but if you then want to fork over another 5k gold, you can get another 30% speed bonus... it would make sense in a way; at 280% you're about as fast as you're ever meant to be in a world this size, so any further increases would be much smaller/more "token".

They're not all that special, really. Any Tom, Dick or Harry with enough free time can get the screaming purple one from the holiday achievements. Any Tom, Dick or Harry with enough free time, a decent set of gear, and 9 or 24 willing friends can go blow up Ulduar and get those protos now that lots of folks are in Icecrown gear. And plenty of people are riding drakes they don't really like because of the speed bonus. (I know of several people who think the purple achievement proto is hideous, but ride it because it goes 310.) Now if you have one of those "special" drakes, you can ride whichever of your mounts you want and go that fast without being restricted to the one skin. If you haven't been that lucky, or came to the game late, you can save up the extra 5,000 gold and do the same. I'd love the Rusted Proto-Drake myself...but I'm one achievement shy (One Light in the Darkness) and can't convince anyone to go back and try to finish the Yoggy fight. So I'm saving up my pennies to buy the speed in Cataclysm.

I have the highest speed ones now, I don't really mind that everyone can get it tho I worry about the cost in general. Its realllly hard to get epic flying for alts as it is. Now we'll all be used to the highest speed and it'll start to get annoying flying on slow alts.

I'd love the Rusted Proto-Drake myself...but I'm one achievement shy (One Light in the Darkness) and can't convince anyone to go back and try to finish the Yoggy fight. So I'm saving up my pennies to buy the speed in Cataclysm.

*sighs at server restrictions* Would love to help. :/ At least Blizzard isn't planning on discontinuing those drakes at this time.
