I figured I'd start a thread for people who want to work on their list of names to use in Cata for the mass tame-a-thon coming. Even if the stable cap ends at 20 (was totally hoping for the same storage capacity as mounts and mini-pets, but whatever) that's something like 15 more names for pets we have yet to collect. If you're like me, I need time to come up with good names. Well, maybe not "good" names, but appropriate names for the pet...given the limitations of the hunter themselves .

Hey, great! I was wondering where I was going to start up my list of names again after my old one was destroyed after the Blue Screen of Death on my old computer. :T
This list could also be used as a checklist of sorts once the Cataclysm comes. As for me, pets in bold are tamed. Pets in italics are a "maybe".

I think that the limit is 11 or 12 characters. So yeah, a couple names would have to be shortened there, Epic. D:

Going to test this tonight unless someone is in front of the game right now and can test it for us (lucky dog that you are). I've had some long names before (longer than normal naming reqs), but I haven't named anything in a good while, so there's that . I believe you do get the option for Capital Letters not specifically at the front of the name. So "AAAaaAHHHhHH" should work.

I wanted to have each of my pets starting with a different letter of the alphabet, but I can't do that anymore because many of the pets I'm going to retame already break the rule haha. And if I changed their names, they wouldn't be the same. So here are my planned names, with no particular theme to them other than what sounded good and fit the animal.

Mali: Humar the Pridelord
Haikili: Skoll
Boss: The Beast
(Unnamed): Loque'nahak (unsure if I am keeping)

Re-tames:

Samuel: Grub'thor
Dehyo: Shattered Hand Worg
Beardo: Echakayee
Shiboo: Frostsabre Pride Watcher OR Gondria. Maybe both, as they are (rp wise) the same animal.
Mazzy or Zuri: Mazzranache
Maia: Dreadsabre (name may change but not sure to what)
Nukk: Red Raptor
Thorn: Silithid, maybe a white silithid wasp if they are tamable

New Tames:

Artemis: Brown Bat or Green Tarantula
Shirva: Orange Tiger
Hiccup: Red Hyena

That's all I have so far. ^_^ Lots of pets planned, but not any names. I usually get a feel for my pet and then name it once I figure out its personality. ^_^

1. Arash - The Rake (Persian name meaning "truthfulness" or "bright")
2. Goliath - King Mosh ('cos he's big)
3. Anansi - silithid ravager (name of a trickster of west African folklore)
4. Ixchel - emperor cobra ("rainbow lady", Mayan goddess)
5. Ukko - un'goro stomper (Finnish name meaning "old man" because of his dark gray fur, also fits the sound gorillas make)

Retames:
6. Orlok - dark red nether ray (name of the count in Nosferatu)
7. Puck - green sporebat (I looked for a fairy/wisp themed name and liked this the best)
8. Twinbeaks - red two-headed vulture (obvious, I think)
9. Scrooge - dragonbone condor (because he looks like a grumpy old man)
10. Xochitl - red + blue silithid wasp (Nahuatl name meaning "flower")
11. Samson - armored brown boar (because he's strong)
12. Rumba - brown rhino (after the sound she make when moving, not because she can dance, because I'm sure she can't)

There is a 12 character limit. I used to have an undead EPL swine named "Forsaknbacon". Couldn't get the whole name due to the limit.

I believe you do get the option for Capital Letters not specifically at the front of the name. So "AAAaaAHHHhHH" should work.

You would be correct with this assumption. My tauren's turtle is named JubJub (shown in game as is, not Jubjub), so I know this to be true.

Lol i need help with names. I have Silhouette(oil wolf), Aurora (arcturis), Solstice(loque) and im definitly getting skoll but i dont know about any other pets. Names are always hard for me but when i hear/see the right one i know instantly. I like the spiritual type things like solstice, i was going to use Twilight and Eclipse. then i realized those are BOTH twilight referances and was back to the naming board. any suggestions are welcome.

Arrol, have you looked through the rest of the Name-That-Pet board? Especially in the index that's stickied. If you look under Spirit beasts you might be able to find some nice spirity names people have suggested you might like. Or maybe try your luck here?

Nemaeus - the Nemean Lion from Greek mythology, I just fiddled with it a little to make it a name - Duskfang (if it becomes tameable *fingers crossed*)
Cohort - the monkeys seem devious and like a dastardly little sidekick, so Cohort seems an appropriate name - monkey (unsure of which color)
Celeborn - I wanted a name that was fitting of the white wind serpent's bright white and clean appearance, so I thought of the elves from LotR, Lord Celeborn being well-known and the name fit - Hayoc
Tityus - named for the dynastes tityus beetle (Eastern Hercules Beetle), recently saw one for the first time camping this summer and immediately fell in love with it, so I have to have a beetle pet in its honor - Green or Red beetle

Names Uncertain:

Skitterweb Lurker (named it DaddyBoneLeg in the beta, but I prefer more serious names)
