Another spider question
Thanks so much for all the previous help. I went ahead and tamed the spider I had my eye on and it makes a great pet, except for 1 thing: I am constantly having to feed her. I am only feeding raw food, not cooked. Does that make a difference? None of my other pets have that issue. I didn't pick up carrior feeder on her. And I'm mostly using Chilled Meat and Rhino Meat which is the highest level food I can get. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Datgrl

Re: Another spider question
Cooked food will provide more happiness, and I recommend the minor glyph Mend Pet, which will provide happiness when you heal your pet.
Wut?

Re: Another spider question
I never give my pets cooked food (I have the feed-o-matic addon and told it to only give them raw foods that can't be used for cooking) and I don't have that issue... I've never heard that they'd get happier with cooked food.
I do however have the glyph Tulune mentioned, I consider that glyph a must for any hunter. Makes life a ton easier.
Is it possible you're feeding the spider lower level food? The addon I mentioned shows what food your pet loves/likes/doesn't like to eat, so that makes it easy to gauge... perhaps try higher level food?

Re: Another spider question
Cooked food has a higher itemlevel than raw stuff, so yeah, that would give a bigger benefit. But I would recommend the glyph, and also that you spec into Carrion Feeder. It restores a VERY big piece of your pets health, and it brings them to full happiness in a single use.

Hm. I never noticed that. I don't know how much of a difference those 10 points make though, considering I hardly ever have to feed my pets as it is... Once the happiness is up and they're level 80, I only ever have to feed them when they die. *shrug*

Re: Another spider question
Are you referring to Cunning pets, though?
Bloodthirsty (even 1/2) and Growl for Ferocity/Tenacity pets respectively will keep their happiness full. Cunning pets take a bit more attention, but I do like Carrion Feeder for that (and other) reason(s). Thank god bgs restore your pet to full happiness every time you die!

Re: Another spider question
I actually had this problem with Haikili, my Skoll. Every other pet (all level 80) was fine with Chilled Meat, but for some reason Haikili never would stay happy. I have the mend pet glyph and even with that and feeding all the time he would always go to neutral in like, a minute. It was rediculous. He was the only pet that I've had that's done this.... so I switched to meat just bought from a vendor which keeps him happy.
I was unaware of cooked meat having a higher item level, so that's a good tip

Rejoined the hunt after a lengthy break... feels good!

Re: Another spider question
Wow you guys are quick! Yes, I have the glyphs for mend pet and revive pet so I'm not sure what the issue is. I thought that Chilled Meat, Rhino Meat and the Mammoth were all the highest level meat you could get in the game. If there is some other meat out there that I may have missed, let me know. The spider is the only one that I have this problem with..... I'm wondering if I need to go into one of the Northrend Troll areas and try one of those. I got this one in Outlands.
Oh! and I tried some Salted Venison but that may have been too low. I'll look at Basted Caribou and see if that changes anything.
Thanks again,
Datgrl

Re: Another spider question
From what I can see, chunk o' mammoth is ilevel 70, mammoth meal (cooked without spices) is ilevel 80 (as is mega mammoth meal, so might as well save the spices) and the max level vendor food like mead basted caribou is ilevel 85. Try vendor food?
Edit: this shouldn't really make a big difference in terms of retaining happiness, it'll just make it happy faster...
