I really don't understand...

Unread post by PorrasouxRex »

...What Blizzard is thinking with these "New additions" of pets. They hardly look ferocious and more on the "Adorable" side other than the previously added Silithud and Beetle bugs. Everything else is the "D'aww, it's so pwetty!" or the "LAWL A SEAGULL IS DOING 8K CRITS!" While it is amusing, I'd like more pets that look like they want to eat your face off.

I guess. But some of these pets look more like bugs/glitches of some sort, or should be more of companion pets. Hunter pets seem more of the "tear your face off" theme than having "Cute" pets on the battlefield.

Have you ever been attacked by a seagull?

It sucks.

As amused by the seagulls as I am, they do look like vanity pets.
But, yes, seagulls are mean little buggers in the real world.
The monkeys may be little, though, but they look like axe murders...the pickaxe, the intense stare...they are creepy!

While I agree, their in-game expression and small size makes me want to laugh hard if one were to not get one-shot by a weapon/magic, or actually deal decent damage to a giant raid/heroic boss.

Oh well, my ghost hydra wouldn't be special, but at the same time I'd love more skins.

Everybody has thier own likes and dislikes when it comes to pets. Many of our current pets are the catcha eatcha type, and I am actually looking forward to something a little more...friendly looking. As for tamable seagull, well they are one of the most vicious birds I've ever encountered next to a goose. I have a great respect for these seemingly docile birds (or as an exchange student in high school once asked me: What are those fat birds in the field called?)
I am expecially likeing the color changers (I know i know some people HATE them) I enjoy not having to tame multiples of the same pet because I can't decide which color I like more.
The Shale spider looks absolutely adorable and more like a vanity pet, but did you know that some of the most venomus spiders in the world are actually some of the smallest? Talk about tiny but tough!!!
We are also getting some pretty scary looking beasts as well, the silithid wasps, Battle cat (the green tiger), the shiny glowy eyed tigers, those bones spiders creap the hell outa me! Theres the tamable sepents. Parrots are aslo one of those overlooked vicous birds...ever get bid by one? it hurts like Hell!
Ohhh and foxes, crafty quick and very much the perfect predator.

oh and one more thing on seagulls, Those things will take on eagles and other birds of prey and hold thier own...ain't nothing cuddely about that!!

Brainbugs aren't technically cute.

Parrots have a long history of being attack beasts in WoW. Long before PC huinters could tame them they were attack pets for the Defias in Deadmines. Large parrots on Earth can do a lot of damage, but I assume the ones on Azeroth are even nastier, despite their pretty colours.

Sea gulls... are probably a bit less credible, even if you accept that gulls on Azeroth are tougher. They're scavengers. Their feet are webbed and their talons not especially sharp. They have strong beaks, but not designed for savaging live prey. I still wonder if their tameability was an accident.

Still, as I mentioned before, I think they should add a vanity family for hunters to tame whatever fun non-combat beasts (or critters) they like. Of course it'd be limited as it'd take up valuable spaces in their stables.

I see what you're saying Porra, and I agree to some point. As far as the seagulls go, for me, it isn't so much the concept of a seagull for a pet that bothers me, but more the actual model being used for it currently. It looks like a low low poly critter model they've upscaled. Yes, the parrots are critters too, but the quality of their model is significantly greater. The seagull looks like they're just using a critter model as a placeholder, hopefully we'll get some more finished looking.

While we're certainly getting a range of new pets available to us, not a great deal of them are 'new' as such. A lot of what we're getting was always there but just untamable, I'd love to see some more all new beasts as well. What is it, Dogs, Foxes, Monkeys and possibly Seagulls as the only completely new beasts?
Check out some arty stuff?

I know what you mean. However at least some if not most of this is probably driven by the need to encourage players to roll new hunters... and we all know a young hunter's pets are quite teensy, especially if your main hunter is a level 80...

So I think Blizzard decided to add some new species that can be small without looking weird, e.g. monkeys, foxes and dogs, and make them available to starting hunters.
