So, is this the end of new pets?
While Cataclysm is only such a few months away, after looking at some of the additions from TBC and Wotlk compared to Cataclysm, and being so close now I'm a little worried. Are they done adding new pets or do we still have a bunch more to come?

No one can say, we just have to wait and see.

I pretty much thought Hydras were a sure thing, so I'm hoping they're not quite done yet.

I don't think that they're quite done. They would then have an uneven amount of exotics, for cunning will have one less exotic then the other types of pets. If nothing else I beleieve that they'll add another exotic to cunning, But i'm really hoping for stags and horses more then anything!
Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
I don't really think this is the end, if it is then there's going to be thousands of hunters demeanding more pets in future expansions, meaning blizzard will have to make more

Don't forget that they can add pets along the way, not all at the start of an expansion

Well we've had uneven exotics since, well, since we had exotics - were always more in ferocity than the other two.

At this point no one knows what Blizz is doing. At times I'm not even sure Blizz knows what they're doing.
I think we might get new pets still.

I feel like we *might* be done seeing entirely new families, though Blizzard may 'unlock' tamability in some existing creatures still (im hoping for hydras, personally). I do however feel confident we will see some more spirit beasts along the way, though I suspect they may release those patch-by-patch much like they did during wotlk.

Um... what about monkeys, dogs, and foxes?Kotamaku wrote:Well we so far have one new family..Beetles!..Oh and shale spiders..thats only if you like rocky spiders.
Also, does anyone know if things like beetles, which exist in the game pre-Cataclysm, will become tameable with 4.0.1 or 4.0.3 or not until the actual expansion release?
Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
They added a Beetles family? When? Wowhead Cata doesn't have that family listed yet. What's the family ability?Kotamaku wrote:Well we so far have one new family..Beetles!..

Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
With the release just around the corner (end of november/begining of December) I think it is still possible for some pre-exsisting pets to aquire a tamebility tag.
With the high demeand for things like stags and hydra's, I think that its entirely possible that after blizz has worked out the pet family abilities and damage equalization, that they may turn out a few more pets. And Even if they don't, an expansion really isn't needed to change untamable to tamable
As for more Spirit beasts, as has been said, they tend to come out with patches rather then expansions. Thats one of the neat things about them, you never know when another is going to pop up!

We won't see more new families, but may well see new pets in families that are already tameable. But not new models, except for the spirit beasts that haven't shown up yet.
They have given us a lot really. It started slow and not impressive, but they pulled it out with the parrots and bugs and shale spiders.
I still want the gyro worms though... Still hoping for those

Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
Beetles don't have a family ability yet, but they're definitely their own family, in the tenacity tree. Shale spiders likewise lack a "normal" special ability, and so the two families may end up sharing one, as most exotics duplicate a normal familiy's ability as well as their exotic one.Sinnu wrote:They added a Beetles family? As of last night, when I finally got into the Beta and went to Vasj'r, beetles lack a swimming animation also.
Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
Ehh, Exotic Shale Spiders and Beetles better not have "the same Ability". I seriously doubt that. They don't look alike.

Parrots......bugs....and elemental spiders....dogs....foxes...and monkeys. Call me a self-ish bastard but that honestly doesn't seem like much for when the world goes boom. They just seem like common pets that should've been added a long time ago if you ask me.Slickrock2 wrote:This.Noba wrote:I feel like we *might* be done seeing entirely new families, though Blizzard may 'unlock' tamability in some existing creatures still (im hoping for hydras, personally). Have to say - given that, despite Petopians scouring the Beta, no new discoveries have come up on the site for some time - I think it probably is too late for new families, at least at initial release. As has been said, later patches may add them (although I don't think any actual family has been added in a patch, only skins?)

Re: So, is this the end of new pets?
A good number of families were added in the 3.0 patch, but then, we knew they were coming. I really wouldn't worry too much about what's been done before, since this expansion is unlike the others. We could very well see more additions in later patches. The Insect Man wrote:Have to say - given that, despite Petopians scouring the Beta, no new discoveries have come up on the site for some time - I think it probably is too late for new families, at least at initial release.
