Cerah's New, Unexpected Friends! Edit: Crabby & Tiny Tanks!

Unread post by Cerah »

I think I've been hanging out on these boards a little too much. The night before last, I dreamed that I tamed Skoll. This is weird because I've never given serious thought to taming any of the spirit beasts before -- they seemed too much work for a pet with dubious returns. However, after this weird dream, in which I was my real life self, not Cerah, and found him in an abandoned mall (it's weird how my subconscious works), I thought, "maybe this is a sign". I thought I'd look for him, just for the hell of it. If I didn't find Skoll, no big deal. I have pets that I love.

No luck last night, even after finishing up some old quests in the Storm Peaks because I read on WoWhead that phasing issues might prevent you from seeing Skoll. I did get the Storming the Peaks achievement though.

Then this morning, I thought I'd have a quick look while doing the Polar Bear daily quest out in Brunhilder Village. Guess who I saw?

Image

I decided to name her Reverie, after the dream that started this crazy quest. I love her, especially how she casts Moonfire on mobs! It's like having my own, personal pet druid!

I had to give my raptor, Beauty, a "vacation" in order to bring this new pet into Cerah's family, but that's okay. I'll just say she's been sent back to Cerah's Troll-style hut in Shadowspray Village in Desolace, enjoying a nice, relaxing time until the Cataclysm hits and she can rejoin her mistress. In the meantime, Reverie's learning the ropes, accompanying Cerah on her daily Utguarde Pinnacle run.

It's strange how we, as hunters, can meet new friends under the weirdest circumstances.

I love your sig. Love Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I tried to memorize it once, but then I noticed it was 18 pages. so much for that. One of my favorite parts:

The many men, so beautiful
and they all dead did lie.
And a thousand, thousand
slimy things lived on,
And so did I.

Oh, and Gratz on the tame.

Thanks! I love Coleridge -- my grandfather used to read "Kubla Khan" to me when I was a kid as a bedtime story.

That's a cool line too. It could describe quite a few situations in WoW.

And thanks for the grats too. :D

edit: Had to take the quote out -- not enough room in my siggy. It went:

O happy living things! no tongue
Their beauty might declare:
A spring of love gushed from my heart,
And I blessed them unaware:

-- Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner lines 281-285

Congrats on your tame! I love those random dreams about pets, they are so weird. It's even better when it works out for you and you tame her! It was a sign. :D

I love Haikili, my Skoll. They are really great partners. :)

This has happened to me twice. The first time was with King Krush, and like you, it was actually me rather than my character. I found him in the process of being tamed by another night elf, but she was getting beat on. I was greedy in my dream and wanted him, so I let her die. And no, I would not actually be that way IRL or in-game. A day or two later, I found him and tamed him!

The second time was with Rak'shiri. I found her in Winterspring surrounded by people wanting to kill her. I was trying to get my brother to tame her, but he was taking his sweet time and I couldn't keep her tagged/CC'd forever. A bunch of horde ended up slaughtering her. But it led me to tame her maybe a day or two later. I didn't keep her more than maybe a month, but I did enjoy her while I had her.

Anyhow, grats on your tame!!! I'm glad it worked out for you. :D

Re: New, unexpected friends! edit: Now have Gondria too!

Unread post by Cerah »

Last night, I needed a new eggy from the Oracles, so I went to get it, and desided to circle the basin, just in case. No Loque. I still had some time to kill until the next Elemental Invasion, so I thought, hell, why not? Went to Zul'Drak.

Right by the stairs to Grizzly Hills, I found this beauty!

Image

I usually don't like transparent pets, but this one is different, and I don't think it's just because she's a spirit beast. I named her Myst (keeping with the "dream" theme I have going with Reverie -- Myst was an old computer game about books that literally led to new worlds). After building up her talent tree, she really held her own against elementals. Wish I had thought to get a screenie of that, but I was kind of busy at the time ;)

She looks quite good next to Cerah -- even a few minutes after taming, she has quite the personality!

Image

Now, if they'd just fix Roar of Courage so cats don't bark.

congrats on Gondria too! I always thought that Gondria looked "stupid" until randomly flying over Zul Drak once, I saw her. I thought "why not" and once tamed, I think she is probably my favorite looking SB even though I don't use her as much.

I think she's the most "Spirity" of the spirit beasts

I've never gotten a really good look at Gondria but she seems like quite the attractive specimen based on your screenies. I have a disembodied Jormungar pet but this seems like a different type of transparency and it's quite striking.

Grats on the tame! I had never given a thought to taming spirit beasts either because (1) I didn't want to camp for it, and (2) there was such a high demand for them. One day I was circling the basin mining and Loque just happened to be hanging out with some of the gorillas. I was so excited about the tame I lost the ability to type >.<

It's completely different. I tried a disembodied Jormungar, and it just didn't click, I think mostly because worms are supposed to be tanks, and a see-through tank wasn't making much sense to me (no offense -- if you have a ghost worm and love it, grats). Myst is completely different. Her transparancy is more subtle, more "spirity", to quote Royi. She looks pretty nice against most backgrounds.

That reminds me, a funny thing happened during that Elemental Invasion I tested Myst out on. Gondria has got to be the least-seen Spirit Beast on Alterac (Skolls and Loques pretty much crowd Dal), but I saw two others during the fight -- as well as two black devilsaurs, three wolves, a black scorpid -- lots of fellow Hunters helping to defend Orgrimmar! I guess she's a more popular skin than I had thought.

I don't mind the look of the ghost worm, but when the new pet looks drop he will be turning into the black skin. He went from solid purple to ghostly to black ... Maybe the transparent one is the shed skin, and he's off hardening himself up? :P

Re: Cerah's New, Unexpected Friends Thread

Unread post by Cerah »

This one wasn't exactly unexpected, considering that I had to arrange a BWL raid to go get it, but Chronomaggus is finally mine! I think he deserves a spot in this thread for being such a bitch to get to!

I tried doing this as a PuG at first, with my bf's Mage, Anyetah, and a "young" hunter from our guild, Patrika (she's only lvl 71), with heals and a tank Pug'ed. After going all the way through UBRS since the PuG groupmates weren't attuned, we wiped continuously on the first boss. PuGs got frusterated and left. Luckily, then 2 more of my guildies, Redwind, a Tauren Warrior, and Zaboctbob, a Troll Shaman, came online and asked if they could come too. My bf went and switched over to his priest, Lifecurse, and we went to the summon stone -- which was being camped by a lvl 80 nelf cat druid in all pvp gear -_- Needless to say, that didn't go very well.

Eventually we tricked the allies by using the summon stone at the island in the middle of Blackrock Mountain's lava lake. By then, I think they got bored anyway and left. Bob then asked if a friend of his, Ambrozia, could come too. Why not? The more, the merrier.

That first boss was a real bitch, as I said, but luckily Bob had done this one before on his other toons, so he mind-controlled the boss. Thanks to Red's excellent tanking, Lifecurse's heals, and my worm, Daggoth's offtanking skills to get mobs off the mind-controlled boss, we managed to get him after only 3 more tries! Woot!

The rest of the dungeon was surprisingly easy. After that doozy of a first boss, it was your standard tank-and-spank all the way through (even if the third boss we had to beat in slow motion, since we didn't have a rogue with us to disarm the traps).

When we got to Chronomaggus, I was literally shaking. Lifecurse hit me with every shield and HoT she had, and after telling the raid specifically not to attack this boss, I managed to get him! I squeeed so loud, I woke up my grandmother  . If I were shaking before, I was shaking even more then. God! I could hardly believe it! This beautiful two-headed dragon was finally mine! I didn't even think to take a screenie.

All I needed now was a name. Bob had the perfect suggestion -- Torrasque, after the boss from Starcraft I, an elite Ultralisk who keeps coming back, no matter how many times he dies. It fits my new pet perfectly!

Nefarian himself was surprisingly easy too -- even when he locked up mine and Patrika's ranged weapons. Melee hunters FTW!

And here's our victory pose!

Image

Showing off in Org after, when Lifecurse handed in Nefarian's head. I wish we could have reported to the true Warchief. Oh well.

Image

Right after we handed in the head, I got a comment from a Troll Druid, asking about our raid. He said he'd love to do the same on his hunter, as soon as he can get a group together, and congratuated me. I've never got such a nice comment on a pet before on Alterac. I wished him the best of luck :)

So that's my story of Torrasque's tame. Whew! I think I'm going to go to bed now.

Grats on your tame too Zou!

Chariots of Fire, that's a classic I didn't even think of. During the slow run, my guildies kept making jokes about bullet time and calling each other "Neo".

The Spirit (Beast) of Christmas!

I decided to log on for a little bit today, while my grandparents were bickering over whether or not my grandfather knows how to turn the oven on (sound familiar?). Anyway, I was just doing a couple dailies/mineral hunting in Sholozar on my mage, when guess who I saw?

Logged out, the longest 20 seconds of my life, and logged back in as Cerah, who has had her hearthstone set for Nesingwary Base Camp for like the past 2 months. I flew over, and began the tame, my hands shaking the whole time!

But now, Loque'nahak is finally mine!!! I couldn't reist bragging for all Sholozar to hear ;)

Image

Sticking with my "dreams" theme for my spirit beasts, I named him Dreamer. Here we are on the zepplin back to Org to brag.

Image

What a nice "christmas present"!!!

Merry Christmas to everyone here too. May the Spirit (Beast) of Christmas bring you all happiness!

Unread post by Cerah »

Valentine's Bear!

It's funny -- I found Loque on Christmas day, and today, on Valentines, my Northrend Spirit Beast collection is completed with Arcturis!

I was actually reading the boards (at 4am -- don't mind my nightowl-ness), all the threads about Maddex, when I thought, "hey, it's Stupid 'O Clock AM, why not try my luck?" I'm not looking for any particular colour of Maddex -- I figure that whatever one I eventually see, that's the one I'm supposed to have. I've been checking every day while doing the Love is in the Air dailies, with absolutely no luck. Why oh why did Blizz have to make him spawn right in the midst of all the quest scorpids? Anyway, no Maddex.

So, I hearthed back to Org, and thought I'd try for the Flaming Turtle of Death. So it's off to Mt. Hyjal, but once again, there's nothing in the lava pits but elementals, or are they giants? Whatever they are, they're not Death Turtles.

A little frusterated, and with 25 minutes left on my hearthstone, I thought I'd check out some old Northrend areas, and see if I got lucky, using my Argent Talbard to get up to Northrend (awesome shortcut!). After circling the basin Once (and only once at a time -- I'm sick of that place after my months long Loque hunt!), it's pretty apparent that King Krush isn't out to play. I didn't even really want him before I realized how nicely he would go with my Razzashi Raptor mount -- I shouldn't have let my unappreciatative guildie have him. Oh well, he'll come back eventually.

Last stop, Grizzly Hills. By now I'm getting kind of tired, and I don't seriously expect to see anything but elks, but as I mouse over the yellow dots on my beast radar, one's listed as definately not an elk! My spirit bear's up!

Tamed at 4:06 AM, EST, on Alterac Mountains US

Image

I named him Brightheart, after Brightheart Raccoon, the Care Bear Cousin. I've loved the Care Bears ever since I was little (I still have my Friend Bear that I've had ever since I was 3 sitting on my bed), and Arcturis' facial markings make him look raccoonish. And like a Care Bear, I just want to hug him! :D

Happy Valentines day everyone!
