Who else looks forward to this?

Unread post by Valfreya »

Hey guys, Ive been lurking on the petopia site for years now, and this is my first post ;). The same as all of you, I LOVE my hunter, and have been a BM hunter since vanilla wow (5 years of catching crap /giggle), ofcourse offspec to make raids happy with the 'popular' spec of the season, but BM is the heart of my hunter.

Anyways on with my post.... I know Cata is on its way in full force and have thoroughly enjoyed all the new pets that have been shown, log on everyday to read what you guys have discovered and relished in the thought of finally being able to tame new pets in the upcoming changes, my stable has been packed with 5 rarespawns that I just cant get rid of. Loque, Gondria, King Krush, Skoll and Aotona. But everytime a new patch comes out I scramble to see what blizz has messed up so I can tame it.. Lately it hasnt really been much, but man in the past we have had some good accidental tames. So my question is how many of you scramble like I do after a patch is released to see what is tameable that wasnt the day before? And in the past which was your favorite blizz pet screw up?

Thanks for the great info on here, I love reading this forum, and always do with my morning coffee, ;)

First, welcome!! You won't find a better bunch of hunters here,of all specs, anywhere else on the web...

If I understand your comments correctly, and trust me,I get them wrong more often than not, your asking about tames that we made by accident and then bonded with them? Easy. Arcturis,my SSB bear...easily my favorite SB(shhh! don't tell Logue'nahak!). I had a bear,a white one, when I stumbled across her in Grizzly Hills. After a very quick goodbye to Cloud,I tamed her. At first I was like "Eh..a see through bear...guess that's ok". lol!

But the more we hunted together and the closer she got to 80,the more I fell in love with her,and now I can't imagine her not
being by my side. I love all my pets, really, but Crystal is,and always will be,something special. I just cant wait until we get our 20 slot stables...theres a white bear in Zul'Drak that I miss very, very much. ...and I hope she still feels the same.. ;)

Again, welcome and I hope the next 5 years are filled with many, many more pets! Enjoy!

You mean like the crocoslime/ghostly hydra/ghost croc and NPC worgen model were all tamable? Yah me too, but all I got to show for it is my crocoslime, they took my dam worgen  I too am looking forward to finding more "should not be tamable but are" pets, happy hunting

I wasn't even around for the more recent pets, but I do have an oil-stained wolf right now :)

Fairly certain that counts under the list of pets that bliz didn't necessarily intend, but they don't seem to be rushing to fix it right now, so I'm happy :)

I've noticed their lack of response on Oil Stained Wolf. I think they frankly don't care. However...I'm trying to figure out why. I don't think it's like the Ghost Wolf tame; we're not using clever game mechanics. It's more like worgen. We're tricking and lagging the server so it doesn't remove the buff, since the wolf doesn't normally have it.

So I think worgen was honestly a factor of them coming out in Cata is why we lost them, since it's pretty much same story for Oil Puppies.

In re: unintended pets, for me it would have to be Garwal... even though I didn't really believe they'd let us keep them, I had to try... and it was fun to pull off the tricky tame timing. 8-)

I managed to get the sapphire hive queen (who very soon will become tamable once more); the ghostly croc/slime/hydra were shut down before I was anywhere near ready to do the Oracle dailies... back when the ghost wolf was tamable I was too low to wear a helm with meta slot (needed for the haste proc gem) and didn't feel like recruiting a priest. :|

Although he is not exactly an "unintended tame", I nonetheless do prize The Beast for being kinda in this category due to his unintended post-tame tag (and all the work it took to actually tame him!). :D

Would have to be my ghost wolfy. Dropped 200g on the helm and gem, and recruited a shammy, a leatherworker (for drums) and a priest for mindcontrolling. Got him after three tries the DAY before they hotfixed it. Still have my beloved Nyx, and still keep in touch with my ghost-wolf taming buddies. Good times.

Stupid move; I did tame the croco-hydra, but got pissed at him while running ZG and rage-abandoned. Never did stop regretting that one.

Garwal was actually the single largest motivation behind cata coming out in my opinion - if you check the posts from Zarhym at one point he says something like "I can't even tell you all the reasons why Garwal was normalized", and I was one of the very few people at that time to make the connection that worgen were slated for release as a player race (and this was before they datamined female worgen halloween masks BTW).

Seems obvious in retrospect but at the time tons of naysayers were loudly decrying me when I proposed this, saying how preposterous it was and "SS or it didn't happen!1one!1" etc etc.

I still think the Garwal event is actually what changed Cataclysm from a "maybe someday, in some form" to a definite project at Blizzard - I strongly suspect that when Garwal was tamed, a lot of people at Blizzard wanted to treat them the same as ghost wolves/crocoslimes for the sake of PR purposes but that others opposed it vehemently.

Dev: "We can't let them keep their Garwals!"
Suit: "Give me a good reason not to"
Dev: "It runs against the feel of the game..."
Suit: "So? It's just a limited number of hunters and taking them away will lose some customers"
Dev: "Yes but then we can't release worgen as a player race without everyone wondering if they're talking to a player or a hunter pet"
Suit: "So, you're going to build a new xpac with worgen? I thought they were just another possibility for the future?"
Dev: "Erm... yeah. Sure."
Suit: "Ok, then you can remove the existing tames. And see if you can do something with old world while you're at it - those new worgen are going to have a lot of leveling to do."

Some may laugh but back in the months after WotLK it felt like Blizzard was really drifting in re: WoW and its future; all you heard about was "THE NEW MMORPG (tm)" (largely believed to actually be starcraft 2) and the odd bit of PVP content, argent dailies and so forth but nothing major until (coincidentally!) right after the Garwal thing when they seemed to regain their sense of momentum and direction. 8-)

Someone else who did the same thing just talked a GM into restoring her long abandoned croco-ghostie-whatsis, so you might wanna look into that... ;)

I never ever wanted a hyena. I always thought back in vanilla when I first joined that they were ugly, and looked kinda stupid. But after visiting SM at level 70 [which made it a breeze] I saw the beauty of a red hyena, I tamed him and the hyena model grew on me. There is my accidental pet...

And the pet I thought Blizz screwed up...well~ I never really had a pet that I was truelly to overly fond of that Blizz just took away. I am kinda mad that Blizz is taking away the scarlet tracking hound and replacing it with a mastiff. Not that I don't like the model but I hate the color. I would be suprised if they replaced the hyena I tamed on my hunter with the dog when Cata comes out.

Oh the ghost wolf....

Me and a group of my friends went on our marry way to tame me one, 600 gold, alot of work to get a group together, and when we got there they didnt exist anymore.. It was the day of the hotfix. I was so angry lol, if i remember correctly I actually cried. Had to work a long weekend that week and wasnt able to get on to wow for enough time to do it before that tuesday came up. I was so heartbroken, and telling myself in a mantra..."its just a bunch of pixels, its just a bunch of pixels..." lol.
But now I have a stable full of wonderful rares that took me 18 months in all to gather. Same day I tamed King Krush I was picking herbs in Ice crown and low and behold the Time lost proto drake decided he wanted me for dinner. So along with my King Krush, (Dexter) we brought him down. Much to the disapointment of the 6 people standing around us waiting for me to die (which I almost did) due to the fact that Dexter was still his original level. That was the best adrenaline rush I have ever had in the game.

blizz listen to me. make the ghost wolves tameable again!!! they are pretty and the excuse u removed them for.."they look undead it doesn't fit an hunter's style" HELLO!!! were having undead boars, bears, wolves etc... we even have undead HUNTERS!!!!! the excuse has been made completely worthless. either way the only 3 solutions are. u apologise for giving an stupid explanation and give an good explanation. or you make it tameable again. and the third one. u leave the whole hunter society angry at you for the fact that we can't tame for an reason which doesn't even count. We all have to admit we make mistakes and so do you blizz.
