Regarding L1 hunter pets

Unread post by Ikult »

So, I was a bit miffed when I found out that Night Elf hunters start with a completely unique skin, found nowhere else tameable in the game. I made and logged on a L1 hunter to make sure it was different than the faithful King B. As far as I can tell, it is.

I asked a GM (very courteously) if they could grant me that skin model on my L80 Night Elf huntress. Sadly, they politely informed me that that pet is intended only for new hunters, he was very sorry he couldn't grant my request. :(

I would still encourage people to (kindly!) ask GM's if you really want a pet that your race now starts with at L1. Sorry to be the bearer of sad news!

If I remember looking through the hunters correctly on the beta creation screen, Night Elves and Worgen are the only hunters who get a rare skin (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It's a bit depressing but has me hoping that Blizzard will release new skins/pets/models as we continue into Cata.

Yeah! I wouldn't make so much of a fuss except I love cats with my Night Elf, and I really wanted this new one. Hopefully they will sneak that model in somewhere so all of us may enjoy it soon. ^_^

Same for the tauren's and the draenei's starter pets. For now, those skins are rare for new levels.

They're not technically "rare" because they are found in the game world whereas the mastiffs the Worgen start with and the saber skin the Night Elves start with don't. In fact, most of the mastiff skins are sadly only available in the Worgen starting zone (for now anyway).

Yeah, I actually asked about that too, as I wanted a night elf kitten to go with my night elf hunter. I asked quite politely, explaining the situation, and the GM who talked to me was quite sympathetic to my plight, but told me they were unable to "retroactively award" my hunter with one of the night elf cats :/

Worgen themselves aren't playable on live yet, so the fact that the dog pet isn't availabe yet either is no giant loss. Dogs don't exist at all in game right now, and when they do, they'll be available for taming, not just as a worgen starter.

It reeks that the only other creature that shares the NE starter pet mount is the Frostsaber companion thats been wandering along the back of Teldrassil and it still hasn't been made tameable. Could launch a polite campaign on the suggestion forums to finally let it be tameable finally and see how that goes. Though I think there's only one of them there so if Blizz granted it it would probably be heavily camped by Alliance hunters while being another feat of strength for any Horde hunter who'd want to add it to their stable.

I didn't really pay much attention to the starter pets, I would gladly have this one in my stables.

I was able to catch a screenie that may answer the question.

Seems like to me they will be kept after level 10. This was not the only hunter I saw above level 10 with this kitty either just now.

What I meant regarding my last post was, true, what taurens and draenei have already exist. I was just saying according to Azeroth, those skins of a tallstrider and moth don't exist. Which means they are considered a rare pet until you hit the same levels they are, and that can take a while.

It's been long confirmed starting pets are permanent pets.

You mean well Kamoodle, but the fact is, this is the only pet that has NO tameable equivalent ANYWHERE. At the moment it is of the same status as retired pets. Meaning it is both unfair and stupid that GM's can't 'restore' them to atleast night elf hunters.

And it hasn't been found anywhere in Beta yet. I am pretty sure that if they were gonna make it tameable asap, it would have been first on the list, for even one mob, no?
