Marrow (Kitten) Is Sick HELP!!

Unread post by Rawr »

I need help Marrowgar got sick yesterday night and spent the whole day throwing up. I gave him pepto last night, I read that you can give cats that in small amounts. He stopped this morning but now he won't eat or drink. My dog is old and she gets like this sometimes but all I need to do is give her cheese and she starts to eat again. Marrowgar is moving a little, he still follows me around but then he just lays down at my feet. Hes still a kitten so I really need him to eat and drink something. If anyone could help it would be very appreciated. Thanks :geek:

Take him to a vet ASAP. I don't know what's wrong, but being lethargic and throwing up are not good signs. Even if you don't think you can afford a pet bill right now, I'm sure the vet office would be more than happy to let you make small monthly payments instead of all at once (if that's what you're worried about). I'm sure they would rather you take your kitty there than not. Please, take him as soon as you can.

Good luck! :(

aye Rhyela's right just take it to the vet thats your best choice IMO. I have heard of a lot of storys about people not takeing their cats to the vet and trying to heal them themselves and ending up killing their cat. Thats what a vet is for to heal sick pets.

My bf has the car and hes at work, I cant take him on the bus so I will have to wait :( I gave him a little more pepto and it seems to be helping, he has only thrown up twice today, before the pepto. Hes sleeping on my lap for now so I can watch him. :geek:

Edit: is there anything else I can give him? Hes been moving more than yesterday but hes still really sluggish :geek:

Get him to a vet now. Kittens go downhill VERY quickly and dehydration sounds like a serious threat right now. is it possible your kitten ingested something that's causing a blockage?

At any rate, vet, now. What you described is considered an emergency.

Don't give him a bowl of water to drink. Make sure you just have ice cubes in a bowl in case he wants to lick them, that was he doesn't swallow too much and then throw it up again. That would seriously help him as far as getting liquids in his system. I really hope you got all his shots. =( /prays that it's not FELV

Well my dog isn't sick and Marrowgar hasn't been outside since we found him, so he must either have a blockage like Teigan said (oh God I hope not) or ate something my dog didn't. Which is weird because my dog eats everything, edible or not. Poor little guy  Hes walking around, Im gunna go follow him. :geek:

Well good news is hes not dehydrated, he drank some water a while ago and hasnt puked sence before the pepto :D . I think hes getting better, still sleeping alot, but not throwing up water is a good sign right. I think maybe he ate a thread from clothes or a hair or something else got stuck in his throat and hes just recently got it down. Hopefully hes just sluggish because of all the throwing up he did yester day. He just drank some more water and Im hoping he will eat some time soon. :D :geek:

I'd call him and tell him to come home tbh. Most diseases in kittens are contracted before they leave their birthplace--from their mother, or other cats in the area. You can bring home some pathogens on your clothing or shoes, and a kitten doing something as simple as licking a table that's had cleaning fluid on it can get very ill. He can also have a ton of different issues with congenital defects that may only manifest weeks into his life.

I'd go vet now, regardless if he seems *somewhat* better.

My sweet sweet COMPLETELY INDOORS 2-year-old Bengal started having twitch-fits one night, we didn't rush him to the vet, and by morning we were locked in the bedroom with him yowling and tearing at the air (we couldn't get near him) and twenty minutes later he was dead. Learn from my tragedy and go get your cat to a vet.

Also, let's say he did swallow a thread or something similar. Those can easily get wound up and wrapped up in the intestines, causing vomiting, lack of appetite, etc.

Please do what you can to get your kitty to the vet, as soon as you can.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR KITTEN TO THE VET NOW AND DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY MORE PEPTO BISMOL - IT CAN BE USED FOR DOGS BUT NOT FOR CATS - FOR CATS IT CAN BE FATAL:

"Bismuth subsalicylate is used to treat mild vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. It can be fatal if used in cats; use only under direct supervision of your veterinarian. Tongue and stool may darken temporarily. If the vomiting and/or diarrhea persists for more than 48 hours; the pet has a fever, is depressed or shows abdominal pain; or the pet does not continue to be active and alert, contact your veterinarian."

WHEN YOU GET HIM TO THE VET, LET THE VET KNOW ABOUT THE PEPTO AS THEY MAY HAVE TO PUMP HIS STOMACH.

THROW HIM IN THE CARRIER AND GET ON THE BUS IF YOU HAVE TO BUT PLEASE, PLEASE GO NOW.

EDIT: sh!t, just realized original post was yesterday... this doesn't sound good. :(

This just this- you could have had your BF say It's an emergency or you could even ask a neighbor or friend to take you. Stalling is what gets animals killed, animals go down hill fast- and just because you think they may be acting better, doesn't mean they are.

Also I can't say how .. mad I am that you gave a cat, human medicine, I'm sorry but that is one thing my mother ingrained into me, how DANGEROUS it can be to self medicate an animal with non prescribed human medicine.
Use only if your formulation does NOT contain salicylates. Pepto-Bismol® should not be used in cats since it contains salicylates, the active ingredient in aspirin. Cats are very sensitive to aspirin so it should be avoided. WARNING - PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEW FORMULATIONS OF KAOPECTATE MAY ALSO HAVE SALICYLATES. Do not use if your formulations lists salicylates as an active ingredient. Any vomiting or diarrhea that persists for more than 24 hours needs your veterinarian's attention.

So please, do NOT do so again!

Yeah just remmeber just becouse it works fine on humans does not mean it works fine on other things. Oh i'd recommend not giveing your cat cheese as alot of cats are latose (can't spell) intolerent and can make them sick. Some cats are not. Mines not but i still don't give it to him all the time. Oh and some cats are allergic to seafood aswell and that can allso make them puke. So check your pets diet.
