Oh I fully agree that we're being pampered in terms of all the new pets, and I love it. ^^ As always, I feel that Blizzard really goes out of their way to give us a large variety of beasts to tame. They certainly don't have to go around making changes and adding families and such, but they really give us a lot. :D Naturally there's still a few beasts I would love to see tameable, but that's wishful thinking and I'm more than satiated by the amount we're getting already. :)

I think there are now over 80 new pet looks for Cataclysm. WOTLK got around 65 I think, and that's including the introduction of the entire concept of exotics.

I agree, and thumbs up!

I personally felt like Hunters were getting some well-earned love with the introduction of Spirit Beasts- but then they made EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. a rare spawn. Good lord, Blizz, I know you want us to have timesinks but that's just incredibly cruel. Only one spec of Hunter can tame them, and yes they now have a nice freebie heal but they're seriously not that more powerful than other non-exotic pets. Why keep them out of our reach so desperately hard? Yes, hunters like trophy pets, but really; an entire family?

I felt this love again with the huge stables- and I was immensely cautious of it. Although I dearly love collecting pets, I had a sneaking suspicion they were going to force us, some way or another, to choose between pet skins and pet families. So although I was very tempted to go out and fill up my stables, I've only grabbed maybe 3-4 new pets on my L80 hunters. Smartly, I might add, because now we see the full vast array of new pets that are being reported every day (THANK YOU to Wain and ALL beta pet farmers!).

I truly feel we're FINALLY getting our hunter treat now. Finally we get large stables; many new tames (including many OLD skins we've always wanted), and NO MORE MANA. I feel loved, even as a BM hunter! <3

I say thumbs neutral as far as the pampering goes. While they did do a lot to improve things, they also changed up a ton of things (got rid of a lot of neat features pets had) and didn't really take a page from the fanbase itself. As far as I know, Petopia is pretty much the exclusive pet resource for WoW and there have been pages and pages of recommendations for pets that are already in game that we could tame and it would be awesome. Instead we get a mixed bag of things we weren't expecting (beetles) or variations of concepts we already had (monkeys vs apes, dogs/foxes vs wolves). The new skins we got are awesome, and I say bravo for them and thanks, but ultimately they didn't really shake the pillars of heaven or anything.

Pet stable adjustments were amazing as were the new pet calling powers (big thumbs up there)

Pet ability diversification and balancing was pretty cool although as I mentioned above, they lost a lot of cool things the pets had (no more Spirit Strike animation or growing T-rexes) Thumbs neutral.

Other hunter changes were inevitable with the Focus/Talent tree changes and its gonna take a while to get used to them (thumbs mostly up there)

So ultimately it comes down to a how thrilled one is over the new pet choices that decides it at the end of the day.

New skins for existing families: Thumbs way up here, they went ahead and made a bunch of 100% new models for us and gave us a bunch that we had been wanting for a while, but many of these were in families that already had a significant amount of choices and I woulda liked to see some more love for fan favorite exotics like Devilsaurs, Spirit Beasts and Core Hounds that have 3-5 skins each.

New Families: They made up 4 brand new families of critters and turned 1 existing beast into a family. Of the 4 new families, most of them were all things people just wanted new skins for existing creatures for that were neat enough to give their own family to. Leaving Shale Spiders as our one new awesome family. Still on the benches are Stormlizards, Eleks/Mammoths, Stags/Rams/Deer, Hydras, Terrodax, Dimetrodons, Clefthoofs, and anything underwater. This is my Thumbs mostly down and way down category if you couldn't tell.
Edit: oh yeah, I forgot... Griffons, Hippogrifs, Basilisks, Mana Serpents, Kodos, and slew of other Silithid models.
